Pink Tongues evidence much more personality and thinking (personal choice-making) than I ever expected. I've lived with mind for about 6 weeks (motivated largely by this video, lucky to find a quality breeder near me). She's got her own opinion on things, is learning to trust me, approach me, and very quickly learned when and where the food is provided each day. I appreciate a pet who comes willingly (as opposed to my cornering and grabbing) and whose affection is not a given (as with a puppy). The relationship is very cool and continually developing. My 10 year old Northern Blue Tongue obviously knows me well already, and is an amazing companion. This baby Pink Tongue promises to be the same, but in her own very unique way.

Fun fact: Here in Germany they are called "Schneckenskink", literally "snail skink". My local pet store at the town I lived before actually had two of these, and it was the first time I really saw any skink at all. Instantly loved them. Had I known then how rare they were I would have probably got one because where I live know I haven't seen any so far. But blue-tongue skinks are really rare here in Germany as well, in contrast to ball pythons, which it seems like you can get at your local grocery store. lol

I've been watching SO many reptile videos, a lot of which have been from your page, while simultaneously heavily researching what reptile I think would be my best first entry reptile. Arkansas is a rather humid location and so a lot of lizards immediately become harder to maintain with lighting, and housing plus due to a lack of a local reptile community, feeding costs. I wanted something handleable and personable, calm, yet not too tiny where I may be anxious interacting with them, especially around my other animals. Blue tongues were ALMOST perfect, but then I found this video. I immediately found full care guides, necessary information, budgeted, and located some breeders to look into, and have firmly decided this will be the perfect first lizard that hits all the boxes. Thank you so much for these types of videos and for encouraging informed decisions that will ensure proper care and an enjoyable life and bond for the reptile. Keep it going!

Hello! My name is Kat and ive been watching your videos for about a week now. (I need to go through and like them all lol) I just wanted to let you know how profoundly you have helped me with my love of reptiles. I've always thought they were fascinating animals (specifically snakes but i also like many lizards) but i was terrified of getting bitten. Lately I've wanted to get a pet that's more laid back that i could keep in my room so I started out with your top 5 best pets for beginners and from there i just started watching all of your videos. You really made me feel better about snakes esspecially and cleared up a lot of misconceptions I had. Your attitude about the animals and how positive you are is really heartwarming. Its good there is someone like you(And snake discovery) out there to educate people on these pets. I veiw reptiles at the pitbull of the pet world. They have a bad rep. I now know that's just all wrong. I plan on getting a ball python or a gargoyle/crested gecko. I really do want that big snake hug though. Would you suggest me trying to tackle a boa for my first try? Or should i start small. Thank you for doing these kinds of videos. I really like the super educational ones. Not to say your entire channel isn't educational but the ball python genetics series was particularly good. Genetics is My favorite part of biology. I love animals and in fact I'm planning on becoming a biologist(and writer). I know this comment might get lost. That's ok. Just know that no matter how many likes or views your videos get someone will always appreciate what you do. You're an amazing teacher.

Glad to see you doing a video on these guys! When I was thinking of getting a blue tongue, I came across these guys and ultimately decided I would enjoy a bigger lizard. Can 100% say I enjoy watching her skink around, even though I am having a little trouble getting her used to handling. It will come with time. The only draw back I have really found is one you mentioned, if they poop on you, you really notice. Highly unpleasant. You can work around it, of course, and they'll do it less as they get accustomed to handling but the first time was a real shock!

We were looking at a Blue Tongued Skink for our next reptile. I think we may change gears and look for a pink tongued instead. Great Video! My mom has always been against having any reptiles in the house which was disappointing as I have loved reptiles my whole life, snakes especially, and want to work as a herpetologist and reptile educator. Your videos as well as Emily's at Snake Discovery (and a few others) helped her see them as awesome creatures instead of something scary. Your rating system especially helped in our decision to get our first Corn Snake. We now have several species of snakes, and other reptiles (and yes, my mom loves them all!) and I've started my own channel as well. I don't know that my dad and I ever would have convinced my mom to get our first reptiles without the work you and other educators do. Thank you so much! - Annaliese

Love this video - and this channel! Thank you! Through all your hard work, I have a greater love for my own pet gecko and have discovered just how much I love reptiles in general. Thank you so much! One idea: discussing vet support for these creatures, especially largely unknown ones like the pink tongue skink. In smaller markets especially, I imagine people could have real difficulty finding a vet for “exotics” like skinks, monitors and rarer species of snakes. If it’s difficult to get medical care for an animal in your area, then it might be better to find a reptile who does get supported in your area. Just a thought in terms of care considerations. Also, what’s going on in terms of expanding vet access for certain reptiles? Again, I adore this channel! Thank you!

I think there's a plight seen in several species where a perfectly great, awesome pet gets overshadowed by the fact that it's got a close relative with a really distinctive feature and it's the more normal-looking species in that family. I think that's why Reptiliatus' Project Mini Dragon focused on red-eyed crocodile skinks and he only expanded to white-eyed crocodile skinks after getting one by mistake, and I think it's also why so few people know about or have pink-tongued skinks.
