I'm one of those people who has been completely out of the console/pc gaming scene for years... and yet, Xbox cloud gaming is reeling me back in, purely on the convenience aspect. I recently picked up an Xbox s/x controller and started playing COD mobile casually. At the time, that seemed like an inexpensive way to get back into it. But since I found out about cloud gaming using your phone, its been a total game changer (pun intended). One of the reasons I stopped purchasing consoles was because I didn't want to make the commitment to specific hardware. This new technology solves all those problems for me.

Can we get a 2024 update? Are you still using it?

I'm sorting out how well GFN, Luna, and later Xcloud work as a Stadia replacement. Lag needs to be addressed.

Great review! I just recently found Xbox cloud gaming and it checked a lot of boxes for me. I have just had a Nintendo switch for a few years and haven’t had a physical Xbox for close to 10 years. I’m a big Bethesda fan and I was super sad about not being able to play starfield. Now I will be able to day 1! I primarily use it on my MacBook Air and Samsung TV. It runs ok on my computer and almost flawlessly on my TV.

I've been playing AC Origins with Xcloud for about a week and so far, I'm loving it! Xcloud is more stable and reliable now. No more game-breaking latency, just a bit of image compression here and there which doesn't happen very often. And I live in Indonesia, an unsupported country. So I need to connect to the Netherlands or Australia server, which are miles away from here. Awesome!

Heres my experience. I went on a work trip to another state a few weeks ago. I forgot my Nintendo Switch at home, and it was a bummer. I was getting bored and after 2 days i went to the nearest Best Buy and purchased a Backbone and it came with 3 months of gamepass. Honestly I did not think it was going to be ANY good but it just needed to be Okay for me to use. Honestly after the initial lag and buffering it smoothed out. A few hours went by and i forgot i was playing via cloud. The game ran amazing! I was so impressed, when I got back home, i went to the store and picked up a Series S! So far ive played 80% cloud gaming on my Series S! Yes i understand Internet is a big factor. I mostly use WiFi but even on my 5G it seems good! On 4G it dropped the resolution but it didnt suffer input lag. Honestly my hats off to Microsoft for makinf such a good service! If they ever release a WiFi Dongle it will surely be packed in my suitcase on my future work trips!

For me, it is absolutely viable and a great experience. Problem is, anyone I show this service to either doesn't have fast enough internet, wants to OWN the games, or just isn't interested in a cloud gaming service (even though they want to start playing games).

Just picked up the new Samsung 8k tv with the Xbox app a couple weeks ago. Picked up a Bluetooth Xbox controller the other day to try out the Xbox streaming service and I must say I’m very impressed. Input is extremely responsive. I notice no lag at all with that. The only thing that happens from time to time is the video compression gets a little blocky. But after a second it restores itself. Overall I am extremely impressed with the service and when I just wanna sit on the couch and game instead of in front of the computer it works nicely

I switched back to Win11 as my main OS because of the end of Stadia ... so I can play more on Steam / Epic / ... again. But I am also thinking about Xbox, game pass and it's cloud version ... or even buying a XBox for my living room with the money I will get back from all my Stadia games and hardware ... Stadia was such a great system to just drop in when you got time, no donwloads, no patches, no Windows restrictions ... I will miss it, regardless of the alternatives.

Oh I would LOVE to see the back end of Xbox cloud gaming. I assume they have Xbox’s all stacked like a server room. I’m super curious on how the software works for keeping your game saves up to date and keeping your credentials secure. Like how does the software keep your saves/stats while also not letting the next costumer access to your saves/login once you get off the cloud and someone takes your spot.

I really hope we can find a reliable substitute to Stadia when it inevitably goes offline. I know these other services are going to need some time to catch up with Sadia's tech.

I'm a reformed gamer who went up to PS3. I went dark after having kids. Stadia was a way for me to dip my toes back in, and I really enjoyed the experience. With the announcement, I signed up for xbox cloud and have been really happy so far. Great video and awesome points.

I started out with Pong and Atari, so I’m not really a graphics snob, although my pc was top of the line around 3 years ago, so still holds up. I also play around with GE Force now which streaming in my house is not great, but their cloud service seems ok. What are your thoughts on it comparatively?

Considering PlayStation is owning the home console market, and Nintendo is owning the handheld console market, I can see why Xbox Series X/S is more of a transition to an eventual cloud-based service. All of Microsoft's decisions are gearing towards a Netflix-style service where games are delivered as content for a subscription. They really want to be the first to offer something like this (unlike buying the games AND the subscription, like GeForce Now). As an alernative to the PS5, how much worth this service is depends on how many and how good its "exclusives" are (by exclusives I mean games you can't play on Sony or Nintendo consoles).

I've been doing a lot of streaming over mobile here lately, I'm a PC gamer so I already can launch games via Steam Link and exposed ports in my router. Game Pass has been awesome, I get access to games I wouldn't normally buy or even try. Great service.

I was looking to cloud game as I moving out and am planning to leave the PS5 with my brother as he uses it more than me I was planning to cloud game on my desktop XBox Game Pass, PS Plus etc.

I tend to be mainly PC these days after finally getting a GPU upgrade, but have had a Series X since launch and love it. I often use Xbox Cloud Gaming on either PC or XSX to try out games, or just have more of a casual experience, in titles that I haven't got installed (either due to space or just simply wanting to try it before downloading). It's great for my use case, as well as others who use it even more. Overall performance and stability is night and day since xCloud launched in beta; and Clarity Boost when using Microsoft Edge browser sharpens the image quality quite nicely on PC.

Well, I just left GFN until MS come on to them - but for now I am on Ultimate as I don't have a gaming PC and I don't want to buy one. I am on 1Gbps for now in Sheffield but I will be mobile soon with Starlink.. so this and GFN interests me. I also have a 65 inch Samsung TV from last year I think I am play it on. Not that it matters in the long run

Yes, i switched to Xcloud, but feel the lack of quality when it comes to the visuals. The bitrate is much lower than on Stadia (and GFN), the biggest issue for me is the input lag. Even with a USB connected Xbox controller, it is really noticable.... Sadly, in europe, there is still no sign of Amazon Luna, which looks more a true Stadua substitute to me (WiFi Controller, Stadia Pro like subscription model). But for now, I will "enjoy" the last months of Stadia and will use in parallel Xcloud.

i've tried nvidia cloud and i had some trouble with the input lag but experienced none with the xbox cloud service , i tried some online fps such as battlefield and there was none or such little that you couldn't notice it

I bought an Nvidia shield 3 years ago to stream my games from my pc to my tv and i had a good expirience with it, now i wonder if for the future is better to use on it geforce now that today has much better input lag, resolutions and fps at the cost of paying for the games on epic/steam or if it's better to get Xbox game pass ultimate where u have much more games for free but it has worse resolutions etc. and also even if it is a workaround xbox pass app is not native on the Nvidia shield. Also there are some news about the fact there could be a partnership between Valve and Microsoft to bring the Xbox game pass to Steam and steam is supported on the nvidia shield, so i hope i will one day be able to use xbox pass on the nvidia shield.

I do xlcloud and geforce now in the chromium web browser on linux. I love not having to worry about linux compatibility for my games anymore.

I've been using Xbox Cloud Gaming and Amazon Luna for a while and I'm really satisfied with both services. I stopped having any hope for Stadia around a year ago when Google clearly wasn't caring for its gaming division anymore. It was clear to me that Stadia wasn't going anywhere.

If you've got the technical knowledge to optimize your home network for cloud gaming, it's definitely worth the money. Xcloud gives you a whole library of games worth playing, the resolution can be set as high as 1080p, even if it's unofficially supported in some cases. Remote play works better now than ever. If I didn't want to, I wouldn't even have to power my TV on to game for months at a time. Hogwarts legacy on remote play? Solid 60fps 1080p stream straight to my phone. Wanna play the newest xcloud addition? Lemme jump in bed and hook my kishi up. The shits incredible honestly

I just subbed to GP ultimate and played BF1 through cloud gaming and I was kinda supprised about the decent quality. I did notice some loss in graphics sometimes on my series S, but it wasn't bad at all. I did lose connection to the server after about 2 and a half hours. But I don't know if that had anything to do with cloud gaming🤔🎮☁️

I just used it on my phone and it's amazing that you can play anywhere. Of course nowhere close to ps5 or Xbox x. But very similar to switch. Very happy.

Stadia was my main platform due to the convenience which allowed me to play more than I have in years. I'm very lucky as I have a PS5, but I just don't get a chance to play it very much... So I'm looking at Xcloud as a replacement for Stadia. I've tested it and it isn't anywhere near as good for me, but if it means I can play for an hour I'm the evening on a tablet whilst the TV is being watched, I'm all over it...

Yeah, the family is having this discussion a lot lately... it looks like boosteroid might be the best option though a little clunky and 1080p... mileage may vary.

when using it on a xbox one for example it doesn’t work as well but when im on my computer it works perfectly! but so far its best for “ single player gaming “ if playing halo infinite for example id rather play it on the xbox for less random lag moments

I bought a Samsung 2022 model almost exclusively because it has cloud gaming built in. Cloud gaming is my only means of gaming, I don’t have a console or gaming PC. I have a 1Gbps fiber connection with around 7-10 ping. One thing to note is Samsung TV Ethernet has a 100Mbps connection speed hard cap. So even with 1Gbps, the TV can only handle up to 100Mbps. Yes, I even confirmed this with Samsung. Now 100Mbps is more than enough for cloud gaming. So my experience, I’ve played entire AAA start to finish with Xcloud and it’s been perfect. Then other times I get visual issues such as heavy pixelation, tearing. This lasts 2-3 seconds then goes smooth again. It’s quite annoying though. I don’t have this issue with Stadia. This leaves me to believe that it’s a Microsoft issue and not a TV issue. Gaming hub is quite excellent, I really like having that built into the TV. Any questions about it, happy to answer.

I use a decent bit of the cloud out there. As far as x cloud. If you are out and about in the car forget about it. But at home or your work on break drs office whatever the case. If you are in the same spot and have good internet it works great. A c to c cable connected to device you are using and controller helps the lag out a lot. Some games rougher than others. But it's more than worth the cost of the subscription considering you can use this tech on a 100 android phone from walmart.Walmart. Edit: anyone willing to spend a little more $ and is interested in owning some steam epic game titles etc. Maybe have your own virtual cloud windows 10 pc for work or school projects. Shadow pc is the best for me personally. Even if I only use it for titles I have trouble finding else where.. Another edit: sorry I'm an awful person but love this topic dearly. If you are not a person that puts hours of their lives into video games there are a lot of virtual cloud servers running crazy stuff that you can rent by the hr? Not an option for me but some ppl swear by it.

I just got game pass for my pc, because I hate pc gaming compared to console!! It didn't fix my issue I'll have to buy an xbox!! However I'm using cloud gaming to tide me off till than!! I've noticed when using wifi and Bluetooth there is lag and latency!! But if I'm wired in the experience is almost seamless except for some frame drops here and there, wich I'm used to being a pc player!! I can appreciate it for what it is!!

I'm currently using xcloud on an old Lenovo x250 for gaming and it runs smooth I don't have an Xbox series s/x right now but xcloud it's good for me.

My long winded post and I forgot to say that I could use Xbox Game Pass Ultimate as a primary source of gaming. If it was all I had available i could be satisfied for the most part. They need to work on the video chopping and freezing to skipping for sure. I could be happy with it even without a console like I use it now. Cloud gaming is the future hopefully.

Xcloud doesn't support local multiplayer. You can only use one controller. I think this is the closest experience to stadia because it's built on the Xbox platform. However no local multiplayer is a no go for me.

I played on my mobile 5GHz and 300Mbps connection Yet its not even available in my country feels wrong paying 15$ a month for it so as soo as the month ends i wont renew it for 15 more dollars , i need to use vpn (bcs not available in country) , far from servers , so slight delay and bad quality Geforcenow is way better but i dont own games more than the free ones on steam and epic games , and thats the only 2 clouds i played on so far , but i still like xbox cloud and really wish that it will become available in my country any time soon and a close server for less delay would love to see that... It would be a dream come reality and id continue paying for this subscription , i dont have a pc , neither a console , just my phone...

Thanks for the vid I am in the position where so much of XBox gamepass unlimited looks great, i can handle the quality change, BUT the game selection isnt what i want... FIFA 23, RDR2, AC Odyssey, Cyberpunk... that's what i play...and no luck.... I am looking at Boosteroid right now as it may be what works...if the US datacenters are solid enough.... Also, As Stadia is sending me some money back...i am considering an eGPU purchase for my laptop (GPD Win Max2 when it arrives), and then using the Steam Link to play remote... But i am curious about Boosteroid... thoughts? Review?

Came across this video and wanted to drop my experience. I came across cloud gaming feeling nostalgic about playing xbox 360 again. Instead of dusting off the ol console I came across this service. And I was excited. I signed up for free trial and I was ecstatic about the libraries available and wondering all the possibilities of games I never got a chance to play. The first being gears of war 3. I launched with no issue and played 20 to 30 minutes without any issues with performance. I'm on fiber for specifications. When I returned to the game to continue I noticed none of my progress was saved. I noticed that a message does appear stating a profile isn't linked to my controller. I thought it strange because I need an xbox live account just to be in the service. But i guess xbox 360 games still need to associate and xbox live account in game. But I don't get a prompt to sign into my live profile in gears of war 3. So I'm basically stuck unable to save my progress. And this is THE FIRST game I ever tried! I notice fall out 3 or even gears of war 2 didn't have the same issu as I get a prompt to sign my xbox live account. It's just annoying I have to do this for every 360 game. I'm just hoping other wierd issues like this don't crop up further because losing saves or not being able to save is a big problem. And it sucks cause everything else from the game performance and controller input was as if I was on local console. Sigh. This is why we can't have nice things.

The only big multiplayer game (that works well) is Fortnite. Both assassins creed games on there work well with my Iphone 14 although the only thing I did in each was beat the final DLC bosses as the controls sucked, but on controller it should be fine. I didn't get to other games yet.

I can confirm Stadia controller works for me on Xcloud and GFN. Of course wired only atm. Fingers crossed Google will release a new firmware for xinput via bluetooth...

I have a series X.. that being said I didnt really need to buy it as ive really become a more casual gamer. I primarily play on my tab s8 plus. Ive had a similar experiance as yours. Stadia just looked and felt better overall. but xcloud isnt horrible. that being said. I think the best cloud service now is Geforce Now. the 3080 tier feels just like console and they have such a large library. they just need to allow you to buy games straight from the app instead of having to leave to go to steam or epic

Curious as to why you say you can't use your Stadia controllers for Xbox pass? Do you mean on console? The Stadia controllers work great wired with the Xbox Pass website and not the actual Windows app. Same now for bluetooth connection. I'm guessing you were talking bout console play. I don't have any Xbox console so I have no clue. I very much experience the tearing ad blotting screen on Xbox Pass cloud gaming. Far too much actually. Also on some days I get constant pauses because it says "controller disconnected" It lasts about 5 or so seconds and comes back quickly. Not sure why it only happens a various times and not other times. I use Game Pass with and also pay for GFN. Together they easily meet my gaming needs and then some. Right now I'm on GFN Ultimate. I needz that 4080 powah! I have actually been playing some on a older pc in another room with a 1080 monitor. I have been playing with GFN set to output 1440 and I am really amazed at how good it looks on that 1080 monitor at 1440 lol

I tried xcloud on my labtop at home and it was so laggy that the game was unplayable. Tried it on my xbox series s and was sort of laggy and screen tearing.

I have a 55" Samsung TV no XBOX (using Xbox series X controller) and it is working great !!!! Just wondering Is there any way to get to my saved games at all ? I would like to save some backup copies. Do we even know who/where the Auto and Quick saves are being saved ??? I know smart TV's have memory or is the Game pass saving them in the Cloud probably ??? There are plenty of saved games I can re-load but (if you save to many times they get written over), It would be really Kool if we could download them to replay later. This way I find out how the game changes after you make certain choices during the game. If you play a lot of Xbox games you know certain game choices change the game. Going back and making a different choice is a way to really make the game more fun and get more play time out of it. .

How about waiting 10-15 mins in a ‘queue’ before you can play some of the more popular games during busy periods?

I lost Stadia in the morning, then after a few moments of shock I bought a trial subscription to Xcloud. No hardware, no loyalty required. So far I’ve been focussing on two games. Guardians of the galaxy, one that I really want it on Stadia. And paw patrol Grand Prix. A kart racer, another style of game that I really want it on Stadia. I like Xbox. Works well on my network. I only subscribe to game pass ultimate and my Android phone, which I could only play touch control games until I purchased a controller and that alone bumped my choices by hundreds of games. Its so many games being dedicated to any handful of games would keep me from trying out so many other games. It's the perfect solution because from everyday expenses don't allow the purchase of a new console. I am willing to spend the $16 a month subscribing to ultimate it is plenty good enough for me
