Clock movement inlay jig. Simple, consistent with repeatable results. If you ever make a clock for family, fiends, birthdays or anniversaries this just might help in your project. If you have a movement that’s thin you can inlay the movement and mount the clock flush to the wall. If you’re like me I don’t like the face of the clock sitting off the wall. I prefer it flush. It may be an extra step but I think the end result speaks for itself. The further out the clock sets from the wall the more chance there is for someone to bump or knock it off the wall.

Loved this, trying to help out a friend who makes clocks for additional income but has no idea on how to use DIY tools. Thanks for this great and easy to use template/jig idea. Certainly going to try it out.

Great idea and excellent video, thank you! It's unclear to me what keeps the router bit within the "walls" of the inlaid area. You're not using a flush trim so I'm not sure how you did that. Can you explain? Thanks much in advance.

davis A guide bushing sets in the router base. That bushing has a lip that protrudes pass the base bottom and rides the edge of the shape somewhat how a flush trim router bit works. That lip rides along the edge of the shape while the bit cut the twin into the wood. Now this isn’t for inlay work that calls for a special set where the bushing and bit are designed to work together. But for basic shapes this works fine. Just be sure what ever you are cutting the template is larger than your final cut. So trial and error with the bushing and router bit to get all set just right.. Always be aware the size of the bit is a little smaller than the bushing. Last thing you want to do is to try and plunge a large bit through a small bushing. Basically the bushing is the magic.

I'm pretty new to woodworking and still learning how to use a plunge router. Your trim bit is so long and you're not using a bearing to follow the template..how do you not ruin your template?

@waterlilly62lori In this case I chose to use a guide bushing on my router. ( guide bushings you attach to the router base.) I was somewhat limited with my router bits at the time. Now I have a router table and many more bits. Bits to make rail and stile cabinet doors, and may up & down spiral bits from woodpecker tool. Now I would use a down cut spiral bit with the bearing to go around the template. Always ask questions and never stop learning the craft. I enjoy help others and on occasion will offer a gift to my viewers. But only through a reply never direct, those are scams. plus they wand money for shipping or something. So If you would accept a few items I would love to send them to you. just email me direct through the channel email. no worries if not, just every once in a while through interacting with viewers I'll ask but only a few have accepted. Hope this answers your question.
