Close Air Support, Nine Lines Call In

U.S. Air Force combat rescue officers from the 351st Special Warfare Training Squadron train with Tactical Air Control Party members, assigned to the 7th Air Operations Squadron, on calling in close air support and nine lines at a range in New Mexico during March 2019.
The CROs and TACPs worked with MQ-9 Reapers, assigned to the 6th and 16th Attack Squadrons from Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico to simulate real world scenarios and improve communication with the pilots.

Yea wtf kinda JTAC was that. No lazing, no 9 line and therefore no AGM’s on target.

Yup. I was looking forward to it being an ex British Army JTAC myself, did plenty of ops/tours with US Soldiers & Marines when I was being passed back & forth to fill in the voids of teams or patrols without a qualified JTAC onboard. LOVED my time with the US guys as we had such a laugh n great dark banter, I would be in stitches on some of the such said & done. Luckily never when having to give a 9 line. I was amazed at how similar not just tactics wise but personally we were. So glad to at times to finally hear on the net the cool headed US or Brit pilot “hopefully in an Apache” as they could linger & control the pace of a TIC better, they saved is time & time again, I was always told how calm I sounded on the net, but trust me inside I was crapping myself but the cold ice that runs through the pilots veins is unreal, unless they were blagging it also. On some occasions I just couldn’t see us getting out alive in some TICs until AirPower arrived on scene, so my thanks from a now old JTAC (served from 17 in 1990 just in time for desert storm until 2007 after doing Desert Storm, 2 tours of Bosnia, Kosovo, went back to Iraq twice 2003 & 06 plus Afgan 2005 & 2007 when finally I got caught up in a secondary IED blast) to all those pilots that I never got too meet in person although we knew each other by just our voices “mine standing out more than usual” thank you very much for getting me & my mates back home again.
