I think frags are an essential sword utility. It very useful for opening damage as u close in on a fight, or finishing off if you need to run. My favorite, is when someone is chasing drop it and wait around the corner for a 1 shot lunge.

Diamond 1 here. (Ofcause I didn’t get here using a melee) anyway for sledge hammer. Yeah, if you surprise an enemy or they decide to stand still and shoot you. Then typically the first attack being a heavy attack is usually a correct move. But if you fighting a light or medium who’s running away (aka decent player with a brain). I find better result by just performing a light attack and then melee them for a much more consistent kill. So yeah. Use heavy attack when you can but trust me, you will yourself get a lot more kill against running away player if you just use light attack with the melee combo. You can cancel the attack animation btw. Very important when you use a heavy attack and is about to miss. For me, I just switch gadget and switch back. But you can also emote cancel Always use a melee after the heavy attack register. (Make the ttk faster) But the most important thing with the heavy is ALWAYS SURPRISE YOUR ENEMY You have a heavy attack that can destroy wall or ceiling Use them And get good with the goo gun. It’s much practical in helping you close the distance than the long cooldown charge and slam. And unlike the charge and slam. When you bring a goo gun, you actually have a chance at killing them even if they’re in the open. Whereas if you charge but couldn’t reach your opponent in less than 2 second. Then you just dead (ALWAYS USE CHARGE AND SLAM BEHIND COVER IF YOU CAN) That said, unless you have mesh shield (but even with the mesh shield). Always run to cover and goes around if you’re alone see more than 1 enemy looking at you ^^’ And btw. If your teammate is fighting a 1v1. Use the goo gun To trapped the enemy. Prioritize saving your teammate’s hp over killing the enemy faster. Lastly, respect the shotgun. Especially if the enemy is good with it. Trust me, just switch it off before you’re tilt yourself ^^ Don’t try sledge hammer again a game with multiple 1 light. They just gonna stun you to death. Honestly, I believe the hammer is best against heavy so yeah In quick play when you see a lot of heavy. That’s the best time to play hammer from my experience And try to coordinate with your team. Sometime it’s about having them distract the enemy for you so you can go around. But sometime it’s also about you going in first to distract the enemy so that your team kill the without them taking damage. (The only time, charge and slam or mesh shield is better than goo gun specialization) Happy sledging :3

if you're having trouble closing the distance as a heavy, i would recommend sliding more, it's crucial for effectively using the hammer. if you do a crouch slide and then start an overhead strike, the extra speed boost helps to lessen that gap, and you can start a slide at any point during the windup of the overhead swing as well. you get even more distance if you jump near the end of the slide, so if you're chasing someone who's trying to shoot at you, you start sliding, begin an overhead swing, then jump before your hammer is brought downward. not only does it give you greater reach, but it can mess up their aim as well. i have auto sprint turned on and the activation delay is a low enough value so i'm practically always sprinting, leaving me open for a slide when i need it. great video overall, i'm always happy to see people enjoying the melee in this game 👍

this video is soooo chaotic and I love it. Here are some of my observations and possible improvements take it or leave it. Ok I'm ngl I didn't know this was a finals video until you said it like 10 seconds in. I don't remember why I clicked on the thumbnail but I did not thinking it was finals. So make the thumbnail and more specifically the title more clear. Viewers' expectations should first be MET, and only after that should they be pleasantly surprised by something they weren't expecting. So one way to think about this is, 1, meet expectations with a more clear and finals containing intro, only THEN before people click off, surprise and exceed the expectations with the fancy animations. Honestly I think the problem was the slow looking at door intro, it kinda threw me off. I'm at 4 minuets rn and I have NO idea how you are gonna fill 40 min lmao but we will see. Definatly look at your retention in youtube studio to see which parts people stayed for, skipped, watched again etc. Would help to guide future videos. Ok honestly the funny bits in this video are really good. I think doing this format with a little more focus and shorter than 10 min would be super successful. Im at 10 min and it doesn't feel like 10 min. That is a reeeeally good sign. I am getting kinda bored tho. If you make smaller videos, you can add more little graphics which really help with retention. Ive paired riot shield with dematerialiser because theres nothing to throw the enemy off better than making holes out of nowhere to attack with, or running away through holes that i then close, cutting off sightlines, all just making the enemy a lot more confused. Im not even that good with the shield half of the weapon, and i still remember doing really well. I revel in the environment destruction/modification mechanics, i think im quite good at it. Thats why i tend to do really well with sledgehammer and goo gun (i can see what you mean by it being gross, sorry but as another youtuber put it, the feeling of leaving enemies horrified at their trappedness while bearing down on them with a sledgehammer or flamethrower is absolutely ravishing), or charge. The demat also kinda plays into this, since making holes and is practically the raw spirit of the game, but being able to do it relatively quietly, quickly, 3 times in a go, and even close them at will, is absolutely fantastic.

Tips for evasive dash. Remember the position of your enemy. Let’s say if you dash through a guy. What’s most player does is they 180 degree turn their dash back. That’s horrible. Even if they do it fast, that will still make you get shot. It’s better to just use 1 dash back or to the side to throw them off (assuming you’re in a 1v1)

I think the goo grenade as a gadget is a really viable option when playing melee to cut off longer sightlines when enemies with guns could be shooting at you. IMO it might be better than equipping a tracking dart with saber or dagger.

Scouts die to primary attack and melee which is way better than a secondary attack, and medics die to 2 primary attacks and a melee, heavies remain with 5 hp after 3 primary attacks which is the exact damage of the hook. Anyway if you have hook you can hook primary and melee to one shot a scout

39:32 try using sword/ dagger with dash, invis bomb, smoke and flashbangs. if you want chaos/ distractions, this works well. (flash bangs seam to be really underrated in this game but combo flash bang with dash its crazy. if you go in for an attack on someone rather close, drop a flash, then just as its about to go off, dash Infront of it. you will flash the opponent but not yourself. Same with running away, you can quickly drop a flash with right click and then dash just as it goes off. leaving distance between you and the opponent, which they are ever blind now, or didn't chance because they know you dropped a flash. This strat worked for me near enough 100% of the time, if I had a flash ready. if not, smoke was next best thing, + invis bomb. your dash is mainly for attacking and saving one dash for running away. your other equipment is for messing with the opponents ability to track, chase or even hear you. yes thats right, flash bang also messes with your hearing if at point blank. just a fun way I like to play light melee) you can even swap out the smoke for sonar nades for better team utility)

Goo Gun is the superior choice for sledge imo. Massive mobility, massive control over where the enemy can & can't go, and the ability to lock enemies down while you close the gap is HUGE for landing those heavy attacks. Mesh & Slam just don't even come close imo

glad to say, melee just got buffed. the AA can be turned off, and the swings less encumber sprinting!

Shield main I would love to see you take on shied since we got Demat and reshaper. Also they fixed the sprint/crouch locking. The flow is Significantly better.

The biggest problem i see with melee weapons is that their SUPER easy to spam. And one can pick up a sword and spam left click. I just wish you were more rewarded for using the right click attacks and less so when using left click attacks

Fun fact if you hold your riot shelds upr sometimes the turret (the one that shoots) wont see you i will double check after school Update: it appears this no longer happens

I hate melee. I hate playing it. I hate going up against it. All those gimmick weapons like throwing knives and flame throwers too. Boring af. And the fact that it's the meta rn makes this season the most annoying season so far.

I run zip/goo reshaper or difib. The goo gets alot more use in chases than jump Imo. My demat meta is defib/xmine/goo if you care to test
