Darknet markets come and go for various reasons. Over the last several years we've seen law enforcement take down several of the largest darknet markets to ever exist on the dark web. In a story that involves multi-national cooperation, death and deception, this talk will look at the fascinating story behind Operation Bayonet and the seizure and subsequent takedown of AlphaBay and Hansa. It will also cover the subsequent closure, in April 2019, of the leading darknet market, Dream.

It's always fascinating to see these markets. You got venders being blackmailed, you got exit scams, you got people ddosing and demanding money. There's just endless stories from buyers, venders, mods, hackers and admins. I think these will never stop until all drugs are legalised because there's just too much to gain.

maybe not ALL drugs, especially ones do cause significant harm and addiction to people (stuff like heroin, cocaine, etc...). I do agree with cannabis legalisation and maybe (very hard maybe) party pills. Though I do disagree with you because the reason why sites exist is because people want to buy things, and they want to buy drugs because of different reasons. However education I think is the key to stopping most people going out and buying drugs / using drugs

@@capekraken2672 People will buy and use drugs whether they are legal or not. Prohibition does not change this fact. This is true for cannabis, alcohol, cocaine, heroin... Keeping drugs illegal only helps criminals and makes them more dangerous. We know for sure that decriminalization of all drugs is a good idea (Portugal did this 20 years ago) and legalizing all drugs is most likely a good idea.

Also @21:42 he goes on to say messages weren't encrypted before being sent. This is only true if you used the markets own auto encryption. If you manually PGP encrypt a message with you public PGP and the vendors PGP only then there's no way they can reverse engineer this. Unless they bust you or the vendor and one of the two of you give up you pgp password. Not to mention 50% of the addresses they probably did find were drops or burner addresses.

@@DetectiveNineHD they didn't exit at all. They put up notice to everyone to get coin off the site over next 30 days and then posted a link to a new market that had their blessing which never came online. They did the opposite of exit scam they actually had some grace just like Agora.

One thing I've never understood is why gov continues to bring down these criminals when they know all they're going to do is create another operation. Like when one is done another is ready to go it seems like a waste of time to me.

all these programs (bayonet etc) are governent programs. these gov programs extort money from tax payers to give to cops on payroll. its an industry in itself! put it this way: if all drugs were legalized tomorrow, how many gov jobs do you think would be lost? how many less convictions, and less prison cells? i guarantee you this: if the tax payers had the option of paying the cost of the war on drugs, or keeping that money for themselves and their families, they would very quickly find it in their hearts to leave drug users to live their own lives, and the narco cops would be beggars on the streets in a heartbeat.

@@casperross7605 at this point in time, all dark net markets are bait and trap operations by certain governments. I would only ever order weed off any market and it's legal in my area so... yeah. No demand, no supply.

If Drugs were legal then we wouldn't be funding organised crime, cartels, crime bosses, Crime Families and Terrorists. But they're illgeal because the government dosn't want you to have infinite tax free money from manufacturing or growing. They don't give a fuck about health or morals if they did Alchol and Tabacoo would be illgeal too.
