Thrapston Midland Road Station in Northamptonshire on the closed Kettering to Huntingdon Line. These shots taken on the 13th February 2015.
The station was opened on the 1st March 1866 and closed on the 15th June 1959. Firstly operated by the Midland Railway, then the LMS and lastly British Railways. The preceding station was Twywell and the following station was Raunds.
This station is located on Midland Road on the outskirts of Thrapston. No trace of this station remains. However, the most important architectural feature of the line, the 15 arch viaduct just west of the station, survives.

I've passed this viaduct many times on my way down to Duxford Museum. I've got a book by Middleton Press called Railways Around Huntingdon showing this line to Kettering. A great video, thanks.

Thanks Ian. The viaduct is in a wonderful condition given it's age. After years of wanting to explore this area it was nice to get the opportunity to do so.

On Keith's advice I cycled the route from Raunds to Thrapston through Stanwick Lakes to the viaduct - it's an excellent ride and it was nice to explore this area.

Great film this! As a Thrapston man born a and bred now living in Skipton North Yorkshire and just turned 62, l remember vividly taking a train out of this station in the late 50s. It was for a family holiday to Clacton on sea. As far as l can remember we changed trains at Cambridge before we got to our destination. Interestingly l have in my possession an original copy of the sound recording made by Mr Jacques which l have borrowed from one of his descendants, a friend of mine who herself now lives some distance from Thrapston! I shall now view some more of your excellent work and remind myself of those great days when you could catch a train from TWO stations in town! Ps.my dad who died a couple of years ago told me that the viaduct we see today was the third such structure. The first two both wooden replaced as they fell into disrepair. That story told to him by a railway worker many years ago! Maybe you could shed some light on that as l have no way of substantiating that claim!!

Thanks. Many thanks for sharing your memories and info here. I used to live in Raunds and now in Wellingborough - I have a big interest in railways but also history and that of the closed lines/stations in the local area. I had no idea that the viaduct was the third such structure. Will have to see if I dig out any books with photographs or info that provide proof of that. Thanks once again. I haven't too many video's at the moment on 'Closed Stations' - they take some time to research, film and edit together - Hayden.

HomeMoviePerson Many thanks for your reply Hayden. I too am fascinated by old railway lines and l suppose lucky enough to have traveled on some of them before Dr Beeching wielded his axe! Where l now live in Yorkshire their are many lines that have either re-opened or are now heritage lines, so l feel very lucky in that respect. As for the viaduct in Thrapston l only have my dads memories to rely on, and have no way of substantiating his story because as l think l said, he passed away some four or five years ago now! Keep up the good work and l look forward to reading your posts on here in the future. Kind regards. Nidge

Thanks Jack. I thought it would make change from my regular railway uploads. I had a quick look on the internet at the station and site, sounds very interesting so will visit the site and take a look. I have a video I'm putting together at the moment and another I want to revamp so after those I will visit Bedford St Johns :) - Hayden.

atomiswave1971 Next time I come round I'd be interested to see them. Like so many other closed station sites, it's a shadow of what it once was. Some you wouldn't even have known there were stations or railway lines.

A thoroughly enjoyable and professional presentation Hayden. I passed this viaduct (on the A14) regularly for over ten years, and always marvelled at it, yet knew nothing about the stations etc. Do you know if the viaducts future is secure? I would like to visit it myself, so if visiting by car, what would be the best place to park and access it?
@HomeMoviePerson
@HomeMoviePerson 9 жыл бұрын
Thanks Andy. I would have thought that the viaduct will stay due to it being over a flood plain (when the River Nene floods the whole area underneath can flood rendering it not good for building on). Whether the viaduct is a listed structure or not, I have no idea. The best place to park would be on Oakleas Rise, just off Midland Road and Hawthorns Drive a bit nearer, just off Midland Road. Access to the viaduct is via a small path next to the bridge abutment on Midland Road. The path leading onto the viaduct is just to the left of the fence at 4:45. Follow this over the viaduct, over the small metal bridge and two paths can be seen heading right or left. Follow one of these and then turn back on yourself and you'll be able to see the viaduct from the fields. Hope that makes sense and helps!

A very informative video of Thrapston railway stations and the viaduct, but I'm more interested in where you managed to get hold of a copy of my Gt. Grandad Walter's recording of the last train to stop at Thrapston Bridge Street station, and from whom granted you permission to use it on your youtube video channel.

I came across the recording on Wikipedia believe it or not. Its the only time I have used a recording by someone else on the channel, but I felt compelled to use it as I found it fascinating having something that was sound as opposed to reading or looking at photo's etc. I never intended to use the recording for my own benefit, more to provide historical context and information to further add to my video and information for the benefit of others.

Found myself curious so took a look and the recording is here on Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Thrapston_Midland_Road_Station_1959.ogg Uploaded by a user called Rang1808, but not much info on what recording they used or how they digitised it or who they are or anything. They've listed it as creative commons there it seems

Just watched three kids messing about on the freight line at knuston/ Irchester. Didn't have phone so had to wave like mad to get drivers attention. First time I've seen a meridian stop at knuston!!

I've stood at Irchester footbridge before and seen an adult with his 5 or 6 year old son standing on the fast lines near the road bridge between Rushden/Irchester. It won't be long before another accident occurs if they keep doing that.
