Dont be shy about buying used. When I was looking for a scope for my nephew (granted this was about 15 years ago), I went to an optics shop, ready to buy a 'My First Lab' for $100. I asked about something used and they had an old 80s manufacture Boreal lab microscope they let me have for $80. They even told me I could bring it back and exchange it for the other one if he didnt like it. Much better optically and incomparable mechanically. But, it was an old used classroom scope with years of scratches and dings. My nephew was absolutely thrilled and had no interest in trading it. Hes in the USAF, now and still uses it. Kinda funny... I asked if they had any slides, so I could look in them to compare. They were so stunned that someone came in that wanted to actually look through an optic first, the whole staff came out and gathered around to get in on it.

Seems like the major bottleneck on this is chromatic aberration. Makes sense, because you typically need more lens elements, of better quality, accommodated by a larger body--all of which ought to increase the price. The stained samples are a good idea to give a decent first impression, due to their limited color range.

I am surprised that no Methylene Blue stain was included, which will help bring out the features of the hydra, protozoan life forms.. Iodine stain can help in viewing the plant cell structures.. This brings back memories of my first.. Fisher Scientific Microscope similar to yours, mine worked with a 15 or 20watt bulb electrical power cord, extra bulbs, prepared slides, stains and blank slides and covers.. 😂Drove my mom crazy. asking for samples of lettuce, onion peel etc. One time she accidentally cut herself while preparing dinner, and I asked for a sample to see it on a slide, she wasn't happy about that.. When she is cooking is a, "Do Not Enter Zone" while cooking rule.

I have been following your videos for a while and adore them. Thank you so much for sharing your energy with us. If I can make a humble request, would you be so kind to make a "vs." video with vinegar? In regards to a being an effective/ineffective cleanser. 4% -8% seems to be the most common concentrations, and likely distilled vinegar would provide the best view under a mocroscope since there is much less debris and yeast present.

It's crazy that two entirely different microscopes that have nothing to do with each other and are separated by decades of time and designed and built in two completely different locations in the world would have the same exact design.
