I feel so much empathy for him. He wants intimacy and truth, but he gets sex. This is society’s conditioning for men, and how a lot of women view men as simple lusty animals, when they really want intimacy. The best that he could bargain for was sex, so that’s what he settles with. Look at him holding back tears in his eyes.

This movie came out in 2004, which means it was filmed in 2003. Natalie was 22 years old by then. Her mother's approval would've been irrelevant as she was an adult by then.
