Windows 365 is your PC in the cloud. Securely stream your personalized Windows experience, including your desktop, apps, settings, and content, at any time to any device. For IT, see how easy it is, as a fully-managed service, to assign and configure Cloud PCs using familiar tools like Microsoft Endpoint Manager.
Given the need to work remotely and securely, there has been a huge demand for cloud based solutions in the past year. Windows 365 modernizes the way Windows experiences are delivered for anyone on any device. It’s a premium experience for both end users and IT. It’s easy to use, and just as easy for IT to manage using familiar tools and processes. Scott Manchester, Partner Director of PM for Windows 365, joins Jeremy Chapman to show how it works and how to set it up.

Hopefully this service isn't limited to businesses/business use only. As a standard consumer, I'd absolutely pay for a subscription to have a personal cloud PC. It's a no-brainer, especially since I could just connect to it with a non-Windows tablet. All the benefits of powerful hardware without the laptop-like sacrifice of battery life. It'd be great for school!

Absolutely brilliant, will certainly be raising this in our next budget meeting for implementation. The cost savings on not having to upgrade hardware on user Laptops/PCs at intervals will certainly be a solid business case to move to this model. The management of users/devices will also be massively simplified, not to mention inherent security that this model creates. Well done !

I was really skeptical of this, but after watching I could see how my company could really use this for our remote sales force. It could probably really help with network segmentation and reduce fishing attacks and ransom ware too. I’m more interested in finally being able to completely switch to Linux and run the two Windows programs that I really need that won’t run on Linux. I wonder how much the lowest spec Win365 vm will cost.

At one point in the video they said they are working on a "Reset" option. I guess this means go back to a clean state - like when the pc was delivered to you - but with your data intact. Another guess is that your company admins will probably restrict your ability to install unmanaged software (not present in the company software catalog) on it...

Any recommendations on adding some type of Azure storage to a group of Windows365 desktops? The goal is to use Azure AD Join and no fileserver. Like a small office where everyone needs to access a shared QuickBooks company file, one of the Win365 desktops will be the admin with the QB Database Manager running and the other will just need access to the company file. So far, I have created an Azure Storage account, a share and connected to it on the Win365 desktops with PowerShell. The problem seems to be latency. Unlike our experience with AVD and a files server, the storage is too slow. Thoughts or suggestions?

Interesting concept! What's the scenario for preventing or let's say, mitigating DDoS on the Cloud PC network? Goal: not letting users experience PC use outages in any situation. Can one have 2 Windows (cloud, and local traditional laptop) fully synchronized so that a local traditional laptop could act as an independent, up-to-date failover, if the faster Cloud PC was jammed for some reason and thus unavailable for a period of time? Is this scenario kind of built-in in Cloud PC?

You would use software distribution tools like Intune, Configuration Manager or others, like you would for local installs. GPO or scripting another option for bulk automation. Since these are user persistent VMs, you normally wouldn't roll out apps with image updates, but that is also possible if your policies enforce off-disk file storage.

This is mind-blowing. I heard about this idea a long time ago, but never thought of it in reality.

How does this virtual pc handle video calls? Even within teams? How does it access the camera of the local user device for example? A lot of people use zoom and teams this days. How are those handled from the cloud pc?
@stevendequincey7215
@stevendequincey7215 3 жыл бұрын
You can redirect camera and audio devices for calling. If using Teams then we have optimisations to offload the call directly to the endpoint for a low latency, better call experience.

What about peripherals such as web Cameras printers etc. Do they use the drivers in the device you are on? Or do we need the drivers installed in cloud?

Does the cloud PC support mainly teams pstn calls and video calls ? This has been a major flaw with VDI in the past.
@MSFTMechanics
@MSFTMechanics 3 жыл бұрын
The available gallery images are optimized for Microsoft Teams and use AV redirect to minimize audio and camera lag. PSTN calling support would need to be configured in your Teams environment.

Can I set it up and do other stuff offline? Like will it keep running if my internet gets disconnected or do I have to stream it all the time to keep cloud pc active? Will my cloud pc and the apps on it keep running even if I couldn't access it due to internet issues for a day or two?
@DanielWillen
@DanielWillen 3 жыл бұрын
Just speculation - but if they were to stop the instance every time you disconnect it would take way longer than it currently does to jump back in, therefore I believe it's always on in the background.
