After taking the whole group to a specific special location, Cloud Retainer can't help but reminisce about the past events that happened. She finally told the tale of the goddess known as Guizhong, and her relationship with other key figures in Liyue like Zhongli, Streetward Rambler a.k.a. Madame Ping. This is the backstory cutscene for Lantern Rite version 3.4 (The Exquisite Night Chimes) festival anecdotes event story part 2 with the subquest "A Single Harmony for an Irreplaceable Soul" recorded in English VA and HD quality.

After realising that Madame Ping kept Guizhong's bell all these years made me tear up a lil 😭also they're all so pretty and Guizhong looks just how I imagined her. Imo Liyue and its characters have some of the saddest backstories in Genshin. Xiao and Zhongli's story made me cry and everything is just beautifully written. Lantern Rite is definitely my favourite Genshin update ever

1. These designs are insane. That rex lapis outfit needs to be a skin 2. We got reveals for both Guizhong and cloud retainer (who may actually become playable) 3. they confirmed that the green haired figure in the 2.7 teaser was in fact a young madame ping I love everything about this.

I legit don’t see any sort of similarity between Lumine and Guizhong other than the hair and the fact that they have something in said hair, literally everything else about their appearances is pretty different so idk how these commenters are seeing Guizhong as “basically Lumine” lol. I wonder if the corruption theory still has any weight, and how her last moments with Zhongli happened 😭 Possible order of events: She’s in the Glaze lily field with Zhongli, then she turns to stone (maybe Zhongli does it, corruption theory idk), then everyone arrives, contains the explosion, then the statue dissipates into the “finest dust” Reminder: the weak god who was murdered by her people and petrified Sal Terrae was Havria, God of Salt. She was never part of the Guili Assembly.

Guizhong in the beta. She was often talks to Zhongli in their stroll about how she wanted to guide and protect humanity as she is giggling with childlike happiness. She often pranked Zhongli (thats how Glaze Lilies were born). I guess this hints made me think that Guizhong is actually cheerful but wise god if things get serious. I kinda know that Zhongli isn't just made of flesh. I always depicted Zhongli was made of purest form of Cor Lapis and other minerals such as Iron, Jades, and especially Gold.

From what i've understood archons' body compositions were made up of pure energy of their respective elements. Like how venti was once a wind spirit , ei was the incarnation of lightning and nahida was made of a branch out from irminsul. No wonder Zhongli's arms aren't just made from flesh. For me he's just a walking geo itself.

Why I think there's a possibility of Cloud Retainer and Madam Ping being playable - In the cutscene, they revealed Streetward Rambler to have a voice actor - Streetward Rambler was showed to us previously in a cutscene around 2.X patch where all human forms characters showed were playable. - In the Lantern Rite quest, it is suggested that Cloud Retainer may move to the city eventually so she'll need a human form to blend in - At the end of the Lantern Rite quest, Madam Ping played the melody her and Guizhong composed that she had only played once before. This may hint at Ping's shift in behavior/belief and maybe she becomes inclined to transform back into her young self in the future.

I am pretty sure she chooses to look old. Remember even Ganyu, who is only half adepti, is thousands of years old. I don't think adepti actually physically get old. They seem to very much chose their form.

I see why Madame Ping took the form of an old lady even though aging doesn't really affect the adepti and they can take a beautiful form whenever they like. It's because that she believes adepti aren't different from humans,so she takes the next step of human life which is,aging and embracing the changes of time along with the natural cycle of death through going old. Personally if this is her reason,it's a pretty good character trait. Even if she's not playable,that's still pretty good of a backstory

I'll admit I'm kinda hardened to emotional scenes since I've been through a lot, but I actually found myself tearing up a little. I guess it might be connected to losing a pet I've had since childhood, but the way it was plated out managed to get to me a lot more than anything else

wait, notice how we've never seen morax' eyes? they're never shown on any of the cutscenes that feature him (zhongli second story quest, this cutscene) though we can clearly see that the other characters eyes are shown. at first i didn't think about it too much, but we can never see his eyes, even on close shots. it really does remind you how zhongli's backstory is still clouded in mystery, mostly
