This advice is totally on-spot. We had a green/yellow algae problem and following treatment to kill the algae the pool was cloudy where we couldn't even see the second entry step in the shallow end. With the chemistry balanced we were simply unable to clear the water even while cleaning the filter on an hourly basis. We shut the pump down and applied a product called "Clean and Clear" to the water surface as suggested. Within 2 hours the pool was clearing. The following morning it was crystal clear with a copious amount of white "solids" on the bottom. After removing the filter and lining up the system to "waste" we were able to "gently" vacuum the "solids" off the pool bottom (in some spots it appeared several inches thick). Following another application and a vacuuming the following day we now have a crystal clear pool. A great video and a great help. We had been having the problem for quite some time and the "pros" (who sell a lot of chemicals) didn't seem to know of what I spoke when I told them what we had done. This WORKS! THANKS!!!

Here to testify: HTH Drop Off worked like gold. Complete game changer. I've owned my pool for nine years. No one has ever mentioned flocculant to solve a cloudy pool. Less than $15 at Walmart and I have a clear pool in less than 48hrs! I'll be flocc'ing at the start of Spring and late Summer from now on. Thanks again for the video! Appreciated! #cloudypool #flooculant #hthdropoff

This works great!👍🏻😎 The KEY is that after you put the Flock in you need to WAIT 36-48 HOURS exactly like he said. Last year I got anxious and vacuumed it up after the first night and the pool stayed cloudy through the whole summer. This time I let it sit 2 days and the water looks crystal clear and fantastic!!

Ellen Zhang I used Leslies flock from Leslies pool store. But just about any flock product will work. Circulate setting on my filter did not work for me though,so I just ran the filter for an hour to let the flock mix in then turned it off. The trick is to do nothing for a couple of days and let it sink completely before you vacuum it up like he said!

Thank you so much, you've saved my life (well, okay, my swimming pool!) I was getting so frustrated with a cloudy pool. I had added a load of flocculant but however much I vacuumed I just couldn't get rid of the f***ing crap at the bottom. Eventually it dawned on me that it was all just coming back through the filter and for whatever reason the filter just wasn't collecting it. That's when I saw your video and realised I should put the pump on the 'waste' setting (or 'desague' as they call it here in Spain). Bingo! It means I have to top up the water level, as you say, but definitely worth it. Now I just have to backwash the filter to get all the crap out. [Note here for any English-speaking expats living in Spain, like me, who may be confused by the terminology: for 'backwash' you need to look for 'lavado' and for 'rinse' you need 'enjague']. Totally off topic but I love the accent btw. I have a Canadian mate in Madrid who speaks just like you. Can't get enough of that Canadian pronunciation of 'out': a little bit Irish, a little bit Scottish, but 100% Canadian!

Walmart's version of FLOC is called Pool Clear FLOCCULANT, by HTH. It costs about $8.50 and the 1Kg (2.2lbs) will handle an average size (16 x 32) pool. Don't be afraid to use two containers if you have a larger than average pool.

this is just a straight up how to video.that has proven to work.good job.!!I'm on my fourth year with a 10,000 above ground. flocc it for first time 2 months ago and was amazed at the results..worked perfectly..the vacuuming takes patience..Its impossible to not stir the cloud..after letting it settle two more times the water in the pool was clearer then the water i was putting back in from the hose..ha ha..go figure..after that its really just a daily routine to maintain circulation,filtration and balance.I still struggle sometimes but it's only because "ya can't ignore your pool whatsoever" if your not "workin" on it then ya need to be floatin&floppin&divin&dunkin in it!!!.. splash on my friend!!

Thanks for this video. I have had a cloudy pool for a couple of months and couldn't work out why it wasn't clearing. Tried thew usual chemicals but still no luck until I tried your suggestions. This is what I did.... 1. Set the pump to the 'backwash' and then 'rinse' setting to clean the filter and added water to the correct level. 2. Checked the PH level and added chemical to reduce it and put 'recirculate' setting on to mix it for about 1 hour. 3. Checked PH levels - All ok. 4. Added the floc chemical to the pool and put the 'recirculate' setting on for about 30 minutes to distribute the floc then turned the pump off and left the pool overnight. 5. In the morning, the cloudy residue had sunk to the bottom and then used the 'waste' setting on the pump to suck up the residue from the bottom at the same time adding water to the pool raising the water to the correct level. Then turned off the pump. 6. Left the pump off and waited until the following morning and again used the 'waste' setting on the pump to suck up the resulting residue from the bottom at the same time adding water until the correct level reached. Now the pool is nice and clean - I can now see the bottom without problem! :)

Would that I had my own pool. I would certainly take this information to heart. Alas I live in the UK, where properties tend to be smaller &, even with the Gulf Stream, we're a little far north to make swimming outdoors comfortable, unless in the warmest summer months, which seems to amount to about six weeks if you're lucky.

Pool liners are expensive...This treatment will extend the life of your pool liner. Under ideal conditions a liner can last up to 25 years. In many parts of Canada where pools are frozen for months at a time, the elasticity of the liner will diminish, cutting ten years off the life of a liner. The use of shock and excessive chlorine will also affect and dry out the liner. This is one way to reduce the use of shock and chlorine....therefore extending the life of your liner.

suctionplease hi I have a Hayward sand filter my ph level is perfect my chlorine level is good , the pool is good to swim in because all my chemicals are balanced the only problem is the cloudiness of course and so I've added about 10 oz of perfectly clear water brite to clear the water but I'm wondering if that doesn't work which setting shoukd I put my sand filter on when I flock it? I know you said waste so do I turn the switch for the skimmer off and set up the manual vacuum or do I keep the skimmer on skim and set up the vacuum likr I normally would? I'm sorry I'm probably sounding so confused right now but I'm just not understand the part where I put the filter on waste mode when vacuuming? Like do I just put it on waste mode and then vacuum? sincerely new pool owner my pool is a 16 by 35 inground pool I believe lol it's about 25000 gallons

I use dish soap. Put two squirts of it in a bucket with some cold/warm water. I dump it along the perimeter. The bubbles never reach the filter because it is so little. It cleans the top and puts the scum in the skimmer. Bonus. . . it cleans the stairs and liner. *Do not use expensive dish soap. . . I just use Dollar Tree soap. So much cheeper than FLOC.

I used phos-free and it sludged up at the bottom leaving the rest crystal clear same way u described in vacuumed it up some of it passed through my cartridge filter back into my pool it took like a week to totally clear up but when it did my water looked perfect.

I've been using this method for ages and it really works! Normally it's a mid-summer thing as mentioned in the video but when I opened the pool last month I dropped one of the corners of the tarp and a load of leaves and dirt ended up in the deep end. Scooped and vacuumed everything out but you still couldn't see a foot down, went to the pool store and bought Floc and the "expert" said nope won't work bring in a water sample. 24 hours in and I can now see the bottom perfectly so I'll give it another day. Pool stores are a scam and will sell you anything and everything which can be fixed for under $10!

If you don't have a multi valve...(and by the way, I have a cartridge filter without a multi-valve)...simply open the filter housing and remove the cartridge while your flocing. When it's all clear and done, put the cartridge back in. Remember to take it out again and rinse it a few times in the first couple of days after floc. Hope that helps :)

Been fighting the fog for days. The pool has become a nightmare and really tired of the shoppes telling us, "Oh buy this, and then buy this and ..." you get the point. After algicide, sodium bicarbonate, super shock, stabilizer, conditioner, clarifier, PH up, chlorine adjustments and sure I'm missing something we tried ... going to attempt this step X step and I seriously hope this works as the pool is used for 'therapy'. Gotta get the 'happy pill' somehow. Can swimming be done while the floc is still filtering out at the end, after all the vacuuming or do you recommend waiting for a certain amount of time? We have a sand filter, so not sure how often we would need to wash the sand. Thank you!!!
@suctionplease
@suctionplease 8 жыл бұрын
Hi....yes you can use the pool while there is still floc in it. The floc is not toxic. The biggest thing is to let it settle after adding the floc. Turn the pump off and let it sit for a good day and a half. In simple terms...mix the floc into the pool, let it settle then vacumm the sludge on the bottom without the sand or cartridge. After vacuuming to waste you can return to filtering by sand or cartridge...Watch your little pressure guage after you vacumm...you'll notice it go up....just backwash lots for a day or two.

I was really hoping this would work for me. 15k gallon IG pool, PH is at 7.2, with cloudy blue water. Used 4lbs of floc (predissolved in a bucket) and circulated - its been 24 hours of no flow and there's been no improvement whatsoever. Pool was green 2 weeks ago, and I solved that at least - ran the pump 24-7 for a week, cleaning the filter every day, adding the right chem and that turned it blue but still cloudy. Going to wait another day but figured I'd see some improvement by now?
@suctionplease

Let it sit....if you look closely you should see the top of the water (like the first foot or so) nice and clear. All those particles will settle to the bottom....give it at least another day.

I did. 48 hours of no flow. Water is still cloudy with some marginal improvement. Before I could barely see the 1st step of the pool, now I can see the 1st step and the 2nd step is murky - but the rest of the pool is still as cloudy as it was when I started. Is the only other solution at this point to empty the pool and refill? I used "Maintain 2405M Pool Pro Granular Floc, 5-Pound". Something I'm missing that would cause the floc to not work effectively?

If your pool is clear and you vacuum it regularly and skim the top, and keep your Ph and chlorine to the right levels it will last the summer. This tip is great for two things: Opening the pool after it's been closed for the winter, and after many weeks of heavy usage when the water just won't clear up. Hope that helps.

This is a good idea, But on my 10,000 gal in-ground if I put my valve to waste it would dump 3000 gal. out before I could even come close to finishing vacuming up up the floc. No 3/4" garden hose is a match for the Hayward pump. This is better on larger gal. pools where the water level won't drop as much.

Okay, I'm confused. You say to "recirculate" the cloudy water, and NOT run it through the filter. What exactly does that mean? Throw the water out and replace it with new water? In that case, A/ why bother to flocc if you're changing the water? and B/ it costs $800 to fill my pool with "new" water. Or does "recirculate" mean something else? The only two options I have are to drain out (ie, throw away) or run water through the filtering system.
@suctionplease
@suctionplease 8 жыл бұрын
It means bypass your sand or cartridge filter. If the floc runs through it will clog the sand or filter. If you have a cartridge filter just remove it and let the pump run to circulate the water. Hope that helps.

I have a DE filter with a bumper. It does not have a recirculate nor waste setting. Will it be okay to use and vacuum flocculant with this set up? Thank you for any information you can provide.

The floc I have says NOT to use it with DE filters. Maybe there are different types for DE. Ask your pool store

How to I Floc an above ground pool that doesn't have a vacuum like your saying. How would I get rid of the sludge after floc?
@suctionplease
@suctionplease 7 жыл бұрын
The only way to get the sludge from the bottom of the pool is to vacuum it out. If the pool has a pump and skimmer, you should be able to hook up a vacuum. If theres no skimmer (maybe it's just a really small pool for kids) then you might just want to drain it and start with new water.

You don't floc a DE filter or it will really clog up. Some DE systems say to not use a floc. Then what?
@suctionplease
@suctionplease 5 жыл бұрын
You are correct. I also have a cartridge filter....simply open the filter housing and remove the cartridge while your flocing. When it's all clear and done, put the cartridge back in. Remember to take it out again and rinse it a few times in the first couple of days after floc. Hope that helps :)

What if I flocked and it didn't work. I mean it was still cloudy after 48hours and didn't really seem to settle too much however it was green and I shocked it and cleared it and then it was cloudy. Once I balanced I flocked just like you said and like I said still cloudy after 48hours and didn't really seem to settle. I did vacuum still and did see some stuff come out. My question is should I floc again or filter, balance and floc then?
@suctionplease

You have to use algecide to kill the algae first. Add algecide kill, let it circulate for a day and then floc again.

Yes you can repeat....the biggest thing to remember is to make sure your PH is at level or high. If your ph is too low the floc will not work

could i do this with a intex above ground pool
@suctionplease
@suctionplease 10 жыл бұрын
Yes....absolutely. The body of water doesn't make a difference. Just top up the water first. Remember after all the setiment settles to the bottom, you're going to vacumm it to "Waste"...so you'll lose some water with it.

Your pool liner is an expensive item, and in our northern climate, liner life is reduced from the cold and dryness alone. The addition of chlorine and shock will also cut the life of your liner...and this is why I lean toward this type if fix....less chemicals equals longer liner life. The pool suppliers that don't like what I have to say and leave a nasty comment...know that I will remove the comment.

Bob Frasure Next time this happens to you go to pool store and grab a small bucket of trichlor. You will only need about a cup. Your chlorine levels will be high but it will clear it if you run your system for 24hrs.
