Thank you for posting this video. We had a major fault in an outlet where we were lucky it didn't burn down our whole 5th Wheel. When I went to get a replacement Outlet I was told that you had to buy a very expensive tool to push the wires down into the slots. After watching your video I realized that there was a different way that work just fine. I bought a brand-new similar Outlet at our local RV place for $20 and will install it tomorrow and I'm sure there's not going to be any problems after watching your video.

I'm having this issue right now. The manufacturer installed 3 wires in it and one popped out. The new receptacle isn't as deep, so I cannot fit all 3 wires in it. It's a nightmare. My fridge won't stay on without the wires in a receptacle. I have no idea what to do. Any advice?

Also I have to mention these switches are terrible lol and frankly a little dangerous, the connection the wires have with the contacts are not enough to protect it from overheating and causing a fire. Do yourself a favor and get a box and use regular household switches. It's a little more work but totally worth it!

Whenever you run into stuff glued on like that, try using a heat gun to warm it up a little, would help a ton. You could also try a little bit of mineral spirits as long as there isn't any paint around the area or it can easily be covered up like with this face plate. Cause I know not everyone owns a heat gun, a hair dryer would do the same thing, also in place of mineral spirits, you can use nail polish remover!

Yes I have 3 wires the same as you and I guess with the standard single pole switch the main hot goes to one screw then I can pigtail the other 2 hots and connect to the other screw then the 3 whites wire tie them together. Yesterday I had it wired like a receptacle would be. I have wired things up before but just have to refresh myself as it's not something I do everyday or might be years apart lol.

Thanks for watching. I'm not an electrician and I doubt that I will be able to help. I will give you a couple of tips. First determine what type of switch you have. If it just turns a light or outlet on and off it is a single pole switch. If it works with another switch on another wall to control one light then it is a three way switch. Next google for wiring diagrams for the type of switch that you have. Make sure you turn the electricity off before starting to replace the switches. Use tape and label each wire before removing them. Connect each wire back to the new switch just like it was connected to the old switch. If you ask a friend or a neighbor you will probably find someone that has done it before and will be glad to help you. Good luck with your project. Calvin

@@SouthernCountryLiving Actually, the problem is not with the screw holes to mount the switch on the wall but rather the switch staying in the off position. If I turn it on, it won't stay on by itself. It's a brand new switch, and I can't figure out what the problem is. Any ideas?
@SouthernCountryLiving

After looking for self contained outlets for my home I found alot of people saying they are a fire hazard and should be replaced. So now I have been installing gang boxes and new standard switches/outlets. I’m also using those wago connectors. I’m now stuck because the dimmer switch I want for the new light I installed has wires already attached. I can’t find any information on replacing self contained switches to Leviton dimmers.

I’d rather put in old work boxes and regular switches

It is virtually impossible for me to press all three wires into each slot. Am I doing something wrong?
@SouthernCountryLiving

It is difficult. There is a special tool for punching them in but any sharp object will work. Just be careful

I am having a hard time to get the wires into the slots to connect. It seems to me that there should be a better way to connect the wires to the box. Why there is not a screw to connect the wires like a regular box is beyond me!

I agree with you on that. They make a special tool for pushing the wires into the slots. I just used a small screwdriver. You have to be careful not to spread the slot to wide open or then the wires won't stay in the slot... Calvin

Yes but it some areas of mobile homes, there isn’t enough room to install any 3 gang boxes so you have to replace these switches

Just had the unpleasant experience of dealing with a couple of these and all I can say is that they are absolutely junk, how on earth they ever got UL or code approved beats me.

Nice job replacing a bad switch with another bad switch. Better to upgrade using an old work box and a new switch. Actually, could have used a double gang old work box and replaced both switches at the same time. I'm currently remodeling a 1984 mobile home and am replacing 29 receptacles and 14 switches.
