As someone who grew up experiencing that similar simple but “harsh” living conditions and later had the opportunity to live comfortable in a first world country I’ll just say that I was somehow happier when I didn’t have so much and it was easier to have faith because there was no other option. I think comfortable living presents itself with the challenge of testing you, your values and priorities, “will you forget what life it’s about once you have more? “ it’s the question those opportunities come with.

As someone who has lived and experienced both lives, I can confidently say that it is not ignorance that makes these people happy. I honestly can't say what is but even after experiencing the average American life, I was much happier going back to my country and living a life where everything seemed worse in comparison but in fact was much richer. Even to this day, I have dreams where I wake up in my families humble home, which always brings me joy.

As a Mexican American I am very happy you guys tried to be involved in this culture. I know it’s very different from what you know but I appreciate that you tried :)

I just recently came back from Mexico and this is exactly what I miss. I never realized how simple life can be. It made me have mix feelings about the way I live my life of just work, eat, and sleep. If there is one feeling I want to experience again is the feeling of comfort and simplicity.

Tears are pouring down my eyes now as im typing 😢. I used to live almost like this however luckily enough it was in California USA. I worked in our fields picking and help with cooking. Im so lucky to have a education. This was so touching. Reminds me to be grateful for what i have with much gratitude 🙏. I believe you had a impact on that boy and hope you go back one day to reunite. Here's the thing: People in the western world think that happiness is linked to money, material possessions and career success, where as people from Latin America are happy regardless of what life throws at them. It is a mindset. People in the western world are often cold, distant and unapproachable. Latinos are warm, open and friendly. The western world should maybe slow down a bit and learn from this culture.

Living in that condition is one of the hardest ways to live and it is also one of the most beautiful. There's nothing like having your family always around. But trust me, these men are always working really hard to feed their family, I've seen comments saying that they are far away from the anxiety and stress of living in a big city.. they couldn't be more wrong... these men are the ones that end up crossing the border only to get better opportunities for their families and a lot of them end up killed by a rancher at the border shooting at them like if it was a sport. I'm not saying they aren't happy though, as I said, there's nothing like a united family living to care and protect each other, kids also grow up playing with their friends but also start working as soon as they are capable. Men in this situation tend to get depressed by their lack of possibilities of life improvement, a lot of them hide their depression behind a smile, because men don't cry, men work and feed families. Us who live in cities tend to ignore their situation only because we are blinded by our own aspirations to get luxury shit, while these men fight every day to at least have a proper bathroom. I wish our government was not corrupt so taxes could be used properly to improve everyone's situation. Thank you guys for coming to México and documenting your experiences, you guys are awesome and I hope you keep coming.

I've done this in Mexico in Honduras and the Philippines it changed me it made me a better man I'm so thankful for the love given to me.

This family was so welcoming and nice to you guys. Thats been my experience visiting Mexico. In the USA we have very different priorities- nice cars and home luxuries. They somehow seem happier always smiling and we rarely smile. Love Mexico 🇲🇽

Beautiful video guys, I'm mexican and during the pandemic Mexico has become a popular place for people from around the world, but I don't think most have had the experience and humility you had, to actually get to know the culture, the people & understand the differences and similarities between us. Great storytelling, un abrazo!

It is not that they're happy with the life they have, they are happy despite everything because it is not worth worrying about what you don't have. The only life they've lived is to ensure there is food and shelter, every nice thing they can afford after that is just a plus. They know there are better living conditions and they do everything in their power to get there but understanding the odds are against them they learn how to enjoy what they have, otherwise, you're leaving a door open to frustration and depression which can definitely diminish your ability to ensure the food and shelter they need to survive.

I'm from Ireland but live about an hour drive from the Mexican border, I work with all Mexicans and I must say that they are the nicest and friendliest people I've ever met

Mexican people are always like this, they are so down to earth, they are very humble, very caring, very nice and very friendly. They will always invite you to their house , invite you food. They will always welcome you and make you feel at home. I can tell you this because I'm 🇲🇽🇺🇲. Also they know how to party, to drink and have alot of fun.

When I was about 19 or 20 I met a white guy who spoke very fluent Spanish. I asked him how he learned English so well, he said when he was 13 he said his dad told him it was time for him to broaden his horizons so he took him to Mexico and abandoned him there .I was like what the heck

I love the sentiment of this video. At the beginning Liam was feeling sorry and dumbfounded by everything they go through until he realized the beauty of simplicity. This showed the difference in viewing what is normal. These individual don't see their lack of supplies or stuff a hinderence but they see it as every day life. It's not a problem to them as this is what they know. And in a way it's exactly what needs to be for them. While, I do agree that more money and resources would definitely be useful for these folks but they don't look at it that way. It appears they're content with what they have and are happy anyways. An absolutely beautiful experience that you captured through this video. I was born American, but I have family in Panama that I have visited several times, so I had a similar experience as Liam. I used to stay with my extended family for a week at a time once every few years, so I got reexposed throughout my formative years. But not being able to communicate and learning about the bathroom/shower and the other amenities or the lack thereof was a significant lifestyle change. I love what your video set out to do and accomplish because I believe it did very well. First of all, Liam was a great choice of character to experience this journey. He had some beautiful critical thinking skills that led to outstanding questions. If I could help him answer his questions with my point of view and experiences, I would say that "Ignorance can be Bliss," But the American Culture heavily values becoming an accomplished and successful individual. In contrast, Latin Culture is more rooted in being successful for/with your family. Many people will bring up the value of family in Latin cultures, but I think something Brooke observed was the 'simplicity' the lifestyle seems to bring. When American culture has such high expectations to perform but not how to evaluate your performance, it can be hard to feel like you are doing well or that you are making the right choices. With that domestic setting, it is much easier to know you are doing good, hard work because you can see the benefits for your family. It can help foster a hard work ethic and be a soothing experience for individuals who are used to feeling overwhelmed with their day-to-day life or are uncertain about their future. I would argue that this lifestyle can lead to healthier mental health. So to return to Liam's question, I believe this lifestyle can be better for some people to chase. I hope people seek a lifestyle that brings them positive and healthy memories and experiences, and I think your channel embraces some of those values. So I look forward to your future videos and your continued success!

This actually made me shed a tear.. or a handful. My family lives in Lebanon, i live in Denmark. Whenever i visit them and sleep at one of my aunts houses, my eyes open up a tad more to the reality of others. Lebanon does have functioning toilets, they just can’t flush toilet paper, so that experience is different ahaha. Most of my family there also work in supermarkets and other jobs that are relatively common in the west, but their living conditions and goals in life remind me closely of that of the family in the video. Beautiful people, children, mothers, fathers, communities and so much more beauty spread amongst those kind people. It brings me the same happiness as staying at a family members home in Lebanon, picking beans and making food in large batches. It brings me peace and appreciation of the things i have, even if i’m not the most blessed person with two cars or a big tv. I’m living a normal, great life that allows me to help my family in Lebanon financially as much as my paycheck allows. Thank you for this amazing video, God bless you all.

Great video! I first discovered Mexico in 1978 when I spent a summer on a ranch. I was 12 at the time and have been traveling back for visits ever sense. I spent this summer in Mexico with my 12 yo daughter sharing with her the country and people I care so deeply about.

Young man your ability to communicate your thoughts and experiences, hit home with me this day. The vlog has so much value beyond the title. I am an American latina with Mexican roots. I am guilty of spending pass efforts in improving the quality of my environment. Its now in this last few years that I realized it was not as necessary as I once thought. I began excepting that I can only do what I have been given to do. The rest isn't that important and being content with what I had. thank you man for educating more people about how other people live, I grew up in a community just like that, started working when I was 8 years old, needless to say I stayed there until the age of 13 when I move to Mexico city because I just felt that there was a better way to earn a living, I was pretty much on my own at the age of 13 until the age of 18 that I came to the united states and I know that I had to learn the language in order to get a better paying job, the next day after I got here I went and sign myself up in a English class, I was 10 years old the last time I was in school but thank God I learnt and 5 years later I got my GED, it may not seem like much but for me it was a great accomplishment, in 1985 I joint the united states army and I am a veteran of desert storm made it rank of sergeant, believe me when I say, you being spending time with the little boy is going to change his life forever as well as yours, God bless , sometimes we just don't know how good we have it

Touching and genuine connection. Liam and the boy..priceless. Love what he said here…that simplicity and happiness is a mindset, not how much stuff you own. When I was a kid in my early years I would love to go see my grandparents in Mexico for two weeks in the summer. I would not have the things like TV with many channels ,in-house toilet, and malls, but I had my simple fun things like marbles, toy Top(w string), and cool Indian arrowhead treasure hunting! I witnessed my uncles woke up at 3:30 am to get farm, while my grandmother would be up hour early to prepare their lunches and breakfast. My biggest special time is “faking” I had lice to have my grandmother scratch for 5-10min my hair! I love and miss my grandma . My biggest regret is not seeing her find her younger brother( we’re split up into different families during the revolution). My grandpa was a talker. He had great stories that would keep you on your edge of your seat. No movies or Netflix , only wholesome family time…something I miss now with the hustle and bustle of life in US. My memory of my time there in my lovely Mexico were triggered by your channel..love you all for this.
