Hey clutch how you doing? I haven't seen your videos in about 4 years due to lack of being bored and focusing my life on school but I've decided to chill down now and started watching your videos again. I must say it does bring nice memories and its nice knowing you still make videos. Keep the vids going to dude.

Thanks for sharing! It's great to know that change on new models. I think I am going with 0.3 for my first update :D. Checking jetpens now.

What is your favorite mechanical pencil? I recently acquired an old Lamy 2000 mechanical pencil that has almost a shiny finish, and has W. Germany stamped on it. I absolutely love it.

Awesome pencil, can't wait to try one. Have to put in my plug for the Graph Gear 500 being a great budget pencil that I don't think has been reviewed on this channel. My son turned me on to them. Great knurling without the funny rubber thingys, good build, nice writing feel, etc. 2 for $13 from Amazon with replacement lead and erasures.

Pentel GraphGear 500 is in my opinion the best mechanical pencil. As far though, I make the most beatiful letters with the Graphgear 500, I've tested every one I have, on both drawing and writing and it outperforms all of them. The only Pencil I don't own, that could come close in perfromance, is the Rotring 600. If I knew it would perform better, I would have got that too, but I've never saw anybody saying ,that it performs better than the Pentels do.

That's what I spent on my Pilot Kerry which I love.

I’ve been having an issue with the blue Pilot Eno leads breaking as they’re being pushed by the clutch. Do you know if the Orenz could fix that or do you know of a drafting/mechanical pencil that could be gentler on soft leads? I’ve tested it on Staedtler and Rotring drafting pencils and even on a 50¢ Bic mechanical pencil with the same results.

Mike, I really like the original Orenz metal grip, but your video intrigued me. I’ve had my shipment from Tokyo Pen Shop for over a week now and I can report I like the new metal grip better. Both grips give firm traction in the up & down direction, but the older grip, being basically rings, allows some slipage side to side. This newer grip, with the grip of dots machined into the metal, is more secure side to side. Thanks for the heads up !!!

You need to check out the Uni-Ball 207 Mechanical Pencil. I think it has the capability to be your favorite budget Mechanical Pencil.

Congratulations on your new employment. Maybe you could include mechanical pencils as a component of your curriculum.😏 As for knurling, I really like what Retro-1951 did with their Hex-o-Matic.

I only have the basic bare bones 0.5mm and 0.7mm Orenz. Thanks to this video. I should get this one with the grip. I forgot that the grip changed from the old one.

I bought this pencil when I was in Japan and it broke on the 2nd day I had it. I stood up to grab something across the room and it slipped out of my hand and landed tip first into the carpet with enough force to break the internals. One might say this was my fault for dropping it, and sure, I could agree with that. However, all my other cheap Bic pencils hold up fine to being dropped on pavement. YMMV, but I would have to say that this pencil overall is worse then those cheap Bics you can get at Walmart for the simple fact they can hold up to a lot more abuse. Though the first day of writing with this pencil, it was very nice.

It can happen with any quality mechanical pencil, because weight adds to precision. Does that mean that professional grade pencils are bad and the completely junk Bic pencils are the good ones?? I don't think so. It was plain and simple bad luck. Get a Pentel P200 or a Faber Castell TK Fine Executive 0.7mm.

I feel your pain, I lost a pencil bag with some of my nicest pencils in it once, some long out of production so I'll never get replacements. I bought a 24 bag of BIC MatiCs, they're a classic disposable mechanical pencil but I wouldn't call long life one of their virtues. Their weak points are the plastic clutch and the thin plastic eraser holder. I've broken many of them and 0 of my Orenzes. Great for when I want a worry-free ultra-light all-plastic disposable mechanical pencil though or if I just want, well, 24 of them to litter around the place so I always have one handy and don't have to walk to get one. Obviously writing comfort isn't as good but often you just want the pencil to make a mark, not SPARK JOY or whatever. There's a legitimate use case for both. Definitely would've preferred if my lost pencil bag had MatiCs in it...

That is like saying a Fisher-Price set of toy pliers is better than a set you buy at the hardware store.
