Last night I forced myself to clean the kitchen. I'm trying to make that one of my "non-negotiables". As I walked into the kitchen this morning and the sink was completely empty and the counter wasn't full of smelly dishes from the night before, I was happier than I've been with my kitchen in a long time. Thank you so much for your help. You're the best!!!

It is such a gift that we can give to ourselves. I have a routine Monday thru Friday that i stick to probably 80% of the time. In the morning as my coffee is brewing I quickly make myself empty out the dishwasher. Put in any dirt cups that gathered over the night/morning and then I give myself about 20 minutes to calmly drink my coffee as I wake up. At night before I go to bed I quickly load up the dishwasher. And clean the counters and stove. It works for me. Im with you it makes me so happy and I feel so much better about myself too.

The idea that I am getting a bunch of things (meditating, exercising and cleaning) all done at once makes me feel like I have a cheat code or something! Like I’m winning a game. This might actually continue to motivate me 😃

Dawn I also suffer from depression. Cass is a wonderful person to follow for encouragement and support. My house has been an overwhelming, overcrowded disaster since 2020. Sometimes we need a strong knock to open our eyes and learn to let go. Slowly Dawn, Cass and Dana White have helped me get through the debris (emotional, physical and material.) I am still making good progress. I wish you well, you can do it!

My husband has a cold, so tonight I did our evening kitchen tidy with you instead. 22 minutes and even the floor is mopped. This talk reminded me of giving my daughter FlyLady advice. My daughter was in a season of single mothering while her daughter was one and even a load a day of laundry was overwhelming. Someone (not me) told her to make sure she still made time for the day spa, and was my dear daughter was so hurt and angry! But FlyLady wisdom fell out of my mouth and I said something like "Sweetie, giving yourself a drawer full of clean underwear is self-care." Thanks for this podcast.

Cas - you might find this interesting: Many years' ago, I remember my PhD/dissertation advisor saying to me, "No one cleans more than people working on their dissertation." It's true! A dissertation is such a long-term project. And we're sitting for such long periods of time...that getting up, moving, doing something mindless, and getting a quick win feels sooo good.

Cleaning makes me so happy. I can't explain it. I love the act. It's easy, mindless work with a result that I can see immediate. It feeds my immediate gratification need. It makes me more grateful for the things I have. It is easier living in an organized house. It's a little thing about myself that I can be proud of.

I pick a small area every night to clean or organize. Might be just 2 drawers, or the shelves in the basement, dusting the blinds and windexing the windows, etc. Because I do small amounts consistently, it doesn't seem like that much work. Also, people often only clean enough to pick the house up and dust surfaces. They never really clean the rooms out, organize the closets, move the furniture, wash the q-tip jars, etc. Those are the most important parts to clean. When it's done, it feels like I live in a new home or a hotel. It's SO NICE!

I made a funny little deal with myself over the dishwasher! 😂 Here it is: if I need something out of the dishwasher I grab it BUT whatever rack I got it from I then have to put away everything on that rack! So if it’s a coffee cup then everything on the top rack gets put away right then. If it’s a fork then everything in the utensil basket gets put away right then. If it’s a dish then everything on the bottom rack gets put away right then. Of course I quickly get annoyed with trying to remember what’s clean and what’s not so guess what I do… I just go on and put it all away! AND if I keep it all put away then dirty dishes can go straight in the dishwasher and not in the sink. This silly little game has totally changed dishes for me!!! Hope maybe it can help someone else too! Yall have a bright, happy and blessed day!❤

2 years ago, i was given the assignment to "self care". The idea was foreign to me. There were a few suggestions and I tried a couple of my own ideas. Then one day while cleaning and reorganizing a shelf in my closet, I realized that was my thing. That feeling I was supposed to be searching for was there all along. Because of my gift of packrat, people ask me to help them sometimes - reorganize their linen closets and pantries. One person called me "an organizing genius". Thanks to you and others, the packrat thing is lessening and cleaning is so much easier. And it's actually getting done!

Hi there from New Zealand. I found and started watching your videos about 4 weeks ago. I moved across country and living in a very small home unit. For the past 4 years I had a large full storage shed of furniture etc, that I was paying $100 a week for. I have been wanting to sort through it, but didn't really have the right mind set or energy to do it. My home is organized and very clean. I have OCD. I also found Dave Ramsey and started watching him and his Daughters channel. My mindset just changed in a few days. I got the energy and I have majorly downsized and declutted. I had to wear a mask as I am an asthmatic and allergic to dust. I donated over half the storage shed to charity shops. They even picked it up. It feels so good to give to others and feels like a weight of your shoulders. I still have a small storage shed and I will down size that too.Thank you for sharing all your videos. I like to listen to you. I'm not sure what clutterbug I am. I have enjoyed decluttering. I have always enjoyed cleaning.

What makes you feel better? Looking at your stuff neatly organized out in the open or looking at matching bins where everything is hidden. If the first option than you are visual and most likely a bee if hidden you are probably a cricket . These are the more detailed of the bugs. Kids are usually Butterflies 🦋 and Ladybugs are the ones that love their things hidden but don't have to have macro categories insides those bins.

Omg, you are so right. Every time I get very angry, I feel like I need to do something and I start cleaning around the house and I truly feel better. I hated cleaning, because of my child experiences with my mother, never beeing satisfied with what I did. I was wondering why do I have the need to clean around the house when I am very angry and now I know. I am still angry when I do it, but somehow it makes me feel better and at some point the anger goes away. So I meditated without even knowing. I love the way you put it to look different at cleaning the house meditating and exercise, that is awesome. Thank you

I had a blanket on my couch that I started cleaning from cat vomit. If you have older cats, you know. I had do e one side the other day, but your podcast made me get off my butt and flip the blanket and clean the other side. This blanket is actually two heavy blankets sewn together and is from Korea, gifted from my uncle, who Served there a long time ago. It is supposed to be dry cleaned, but I don't have the finances to this right now. So, I am cleaning it myself. It's almost ready to be stored away for another season. Thanks for the motivation. I exercised, felt like I meditated, felt happy, and now relaxed! Thank you, thank you, thank you. I did it for my husband and two cats to get the livingroom in order.

However, I have been pulling out of them and now I’m turning my attention to my poor neglected house. Listening to you, I got off the couch, washed my breakfast dishes, looked around the kitchen and then I set to! The cupboard front has been wiped, the counters cleared and scrubbed, the cat food mats picked up and washed and put outside to air dry. The fridge exterior and door handles wiped and ditto for the oven!! I’m having little 15 minutes rest and when the timer goes off I will attend to the floors! Woohoo!! Class who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks!! Thank you! BTW it might not sound like a lot but I’m proud! So there!! lol 😂😂😂

I felt like running away last night, but that would not solve anything Lol My father passed away a year ago after a 5 year stuggle with dementia and my mother has been very ill even longer. I am trying to help her go through everything, ll that has been hoarded, including a decade of dust while trying to sell my own home (with unusual difficulties) and move 1000 miles away. Husband is in the movie industry and has not worked for a year. And I haven’t worked since beginning caring for my parents 18 months ago. I am not looking for pity, but also want to encourage others to persevere with doing good through difficult circumstances, one baby step at a time. Much love for each of us ❤

Four years ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer (now 4 years cancer free!), along with some other serious health issues. During the following year, my house was immaculate! I figured since I couldn’t control my body, I could control the state of my health. My husband got quite upset with me during this time, until I explained to him that I needed SOMETHING I could control. And that something was the state of my house! I happy to report I am now recovering from those health issues, and there are times I still feel my life is out of control, but it is much better! Cass, while watching your podcast, I'm actually cleaning my kitchen which is way overdue! You are correct that it is more difficult to clean up a big mess than it is to clean up as you go. It can get out of hand really fast when you feel you're too tired to clean up after a meal and then have more of a mess to deal with the next day. Sometimes it's just easier said than done to clean up before bed every night when you feel exhausted.

Hi Cass, This video has actually prodded me to clear up the spirulina smoothie spill I threw newspaper on, that landed on the kitchen floor about a month ago. I just couldn't bring my mind to focus on the clear up until today whilst listening to you for the 3rd time. This video is inspirational and thought provoking, and as an english saying goes "kill two (or more) birds with one stone". That is my kind of jam! Thankyou so much for this and the research you did for it. I have been following you for a number of years and I have only really felt motivated to apply myself to start decluttering since my husband gave up alcohol 1.5 years ago. He has just gone to his 1st A.A. meeting and for the 1st time, in a v.long time wants to help me get our house straight. I am so proud of him. I think I'm going to ask him if we could make this our project so that by Christmas time we can have a beautiful house that we call home at last. I have wanted this for about 25 years now but not been able to follow through on any faltering starts I had made. I am a member of TYHB but not been active. Perhaps I just need to visit the group regularly, but just 30 mins at a time. Much love to you for all you do.xx.

I’ve found my washing up clutter threshold! Dishwasher’s been on the fritz for 5 or 6 weeks. I can only handle washing up 2 meals worth (I’m single) without feeling stressed. This means I have to wash up at least twice a day and if I have cooking pots, they have to be washed up while I’m cooking. If I go over the 2 meal load, the washing up can sit there for 3 days. Knowing my limit even if I go over it makes me less stressed as I know I can get on top of it again in 10 mins. This threshold is true even if the dishwasher works. Who knew you can have a revelation when your best friend is on the fritz? 😊

It’s the two acres for me.. with the overgrown garden but we are getting there . Doesn’t help the allergies 😂 so far I’ve done the two storey house , cleaned up the last owners rubbish, sorted the garage and shed . Now on to the gardens . Anddd finding faster cleaning and garden supplies to get the job done quicker .

Yes! This surprised me. I wrote a weekly routine (also daily non-negotiable tasks) and I pretty much followed it. I felt so happy and proud when I managed, mostly, to do it. And now it gets better because this week will be so much easier! I did some things "crappy," but I did them and my list was not super-hard, to begin with. I struggle with my house and have spent a lot of time hating myself over it. If I can make it better, anyone can!

Today, I began cleaning. I often put on You Tube or a podcast or a book. Today, your video popped up. Thank you for your honest discussion today. I am struggling with many things and I NEED my house clean. You helped me understand my why. Your points made a huge difference in my mindset and actually has given me a little boost through this crazy hormonal midlife journey. Thank You so much. You have helped me feel better.

I loooooove this message! I 100% agree with what you are saying. This is why I used to clean houses when I was younger. My problem is that I get irritable when I get interruptions (but that's real life). I feel like I would go on, indefinitely, if I wasn't needed at times. This holds true for housekeeping and gardening alike. Also, part of it is that it feels like there is no end. I get hyperfocused and detailed.

I was sick for a few months & now beginning to be much better. My husband is great with the dishes, toilets and vacuuming but I usually do the rest. Now there are piles of papers and piles of clutter that I'm trying to eliminate and it feels overwhelming. Thank you Cas. I cleaned the clutter in the corner of the kichen and started a donation pile for the many unopened essential oils that I obviously never use!😂

Pulled out my wardrobe to sort through and organise whilst listening to this. As a yoga teacher "cleaning is meditation" made me giggle! You make a very valid point though, changing your mindset is the key. If I can see cleaning as an opportunity to listen to an audiobook/podcast and get some jobs done at the same time then it is no longer a chore, but some me time. Plus, it's me that gets the most benefit from the cleaning, my family would leave it much, much longer between deep cleans rather than a regular sweep around if I let them!

Last night I cleaned my kitchen spotless, started my dishwasher and went to bed early. When I came down to the kitchen this morning and found that my dog had got into a bag of trash and scattered it all over the floor! hahahahaha. Oh well, the march contintues. I will leave it so my daughter can be "Pleasantly surprised too!!!" Our furbabies need to watch your podcasts too!!! It was just a lot of empty bags and empty paper towel rolls, so she didn't get much of a reward for her efforts...

When things seem out of control, cleaning the pantry, scrubbing the counters, etc…is something I can control… and it feels so good when I’m doing it and when it’s done! I thought I was the only one who thought like this. Thanks for this incredible reminder… let’s call it well-being hack!😊
