At times I don't think that even Olajuwon had the impact Drexler had on offense. Clyde continues to give Houston the scoring boost it needs when things get rough. Rebounding, creating for others, post offense, pushing the ball up the court, you name it. June 11, 1995.

Clyde is just about the best transition player I've ever seen. Not as good in the half court as guys like MJ, Bron etc, but at least as good in transition. And he did it while dribbling with his head down.

Clyde was one of the fastest end to end. Similar to how Lebron or Westbrook runs the floor. MJ used to run like taht when he was younger but opted to weave thru defenders instead of running all out by his 7th year in the league.

No that's just Clyde's signature dunk saying here, I am in shape, im ready it's my turn on the NBA s biggest stage. Hard to watch as a Blazer fan missing my guy but no one was surprised. Elite talent walks on the floor and doesnt need to say one word.

At the 5:30 mark notice what Drexler does. If that had been Jordan or Kobe that would be shown constantly as one of the greatest plays in NBA Finals history. Because it’s Drexler nobody says a word. Why? The media and Jordan fans want everyone to believe that Jordan is the greatest of all time and that, other than Kobe, there was no one like him. Drexler was every bit the player Jordan was, MJ even admitted that. If Drexler had played in a larger market, he would be more recognized. Because he played in Portland, he is criminally underrated

A trail blazers fan here - notice when Clyde is on the break, with reliable passing options, ( not to say our starting five here couldn't convert a shot, or say Clyde couldn't glide and throw that ball down himself! )all the Magic could do is foul! What's the result? Shaq probably would have had his first ring in his first finals if not for that performance. Let's stop and reminiscence about a legend who AVG over half a triple double his entire career. Clyde the Glide!!

One of the most underrated players of all time question, do you think Houston repeats without acquiring Clyde in ‘95?
@naquoashuey2794
@naquoashuey2794 2 жыл бұрын
@@omb3d80 No way. There is a chance they don’t make the playoffs. Hakeem went out for 10 games toward the end of the season. Drexler put up 30ppg and 10 rebs over that stretch. He also put up 72 points combined in games 4 and 5 of the first round against the Jazz. Both elimination games. He put up 29 in game 7 against the Suns also.

@@naquoashuey2794 The Rockets had a worse record after they got Drexler, they played more cohesively in the playoffs because Maxwell left the team him and Drexler couldn't play together for obvious reasons.
@naquoashuey2794
@naquoashuey2794 2 жыл бұрын
@@ChrisM07 Olajuwon went out with anemia as did Maxwell shortly after Drexler joined the team. They went a game under .500 after he joined the team (if my memory is correct) and with those 2 out Drexler averaged around 30 and 10 over a few weeks. Had he not been there, they would’ve probably had a much worse record missing Hakeem and Maxwell at that point in the season. I agree Maxwell had to go. It was his choice to leave the team. He was in no way comparable to Drexler tho. Much smaller and not a good shooter.
@naquoashuey2794
@naquoashuey2794 2 жыл бұрын
@@ChrisM07 That’s my point. If Drexler wasn’t there and Olajuwon and Maxwell went down they may have only won 8-10 games and not 17. Then they’re a 9th-10th in the standings and miss the playoffs.

That was the big difference in the 2 teams, the Rockets could stretch the floor from everywhere which caused more problems for the Magic defense than vice versa.

If only he didn't run into a Pistons team wanting to repeat in 90' and MJ for his REPEAT in 92'! He'd have 2 rings in Portland and one in Houston. 3 rings. Funny that he came to Houston on their 2nd championship. Helping them REPEAT. Something about the 2nd. 5:24 is just a taste of why DREXLER WAS the 2nd best SG of the 80's- mid 90's.

Habeev07 Clyde Drexler made his hall of fame resume the best at small forward. Clyde was versatile and skill enough play SG but if you see his stats and how Houston "the Glide" as forward thriving in post and stretching the floor.

Sometimes I feel Clyde left his entire career on the court in this 1995 playoff run. He wanted that ring bad. Its like he played so hard in this playoff run, he didn't have anything left in the tank for the rest of his career.

bruce wayne His two years before this were trash. Granted, he was injured and played hurt. This was a comeback year for him. The last 3 years after this he averaged roughly 19, 6 and 6 with 2 steals. His career averages are 21, 6 and 6 with 2 steals. Add the fact that with Barkley on the team his last 2 season, the offense and fast pace just stopped. He was forced to play in the half court 90% of the time and as a 3rd scoring option. I’d say he did pretty good at the end of his career.

The Rockets were very good at executing under pressure and were difficult to stop in transition because they almost always drove inside where they either scored easily or they got fouled. Those 2 things were what ended up being the difference in the series. The Bulls/Magic ECF the following year was a more clear case of Shaq/Penny not having much help. www.basketball-reference.com/playoffs/1996-nba-eastern-conference-finals-magic-vs-bulls.html
