Bought some of this stuff after watching the video to bring the leather upholstery in my 1961 Cadillac back to life. Very easy to apply, and the end result was incredible. Filled in all the cracks. It's good.

I stumbled on your video while looking into color restoring products for shoes. Thank you for a valuable, candid review. I’ve reached for liquid alcohol-based dyes so often when restoring shoes, and this is truly a game changer for my craft. Your KZfaq channel is most valuable. I’m your newest subscriber.

I really appreciate your review and demonstration. Did you notice any color transfer onto the rider's clothes?
@themaninblackleatherstudio
@themaninblackleatherstudio 3 жыл бұрын
not anything out of the ordinary! Whenever I stain a saddle or seat- I always recommend the first ride or 2- to sit on a rag or towel that way you can monitor how everything is playing. Some leathers absorb better than others, so it almost ultimately comes down to how well the leather holds the color holds.

Hi there! I just used this on my dressage saddle and was equally impressed. I did get some stain on a concho (well, whatever the English-version of that would be), but didn’t wipe all of it off immediately. Can I go back with a damp rag to get the remainder off? Would nail polish remover damage the shine on the concho if water doesn’t work? I rode in it 3 times now, and also noticed minimal transfer onto my pants. However, there seemed to be a spot where my knee roll has a crease and the product is sort of pilling up and the stain is sloughing off. Think I’d be okay doing a spot treatment on that? Thanks so much for your video, and sorry I had so many questions. But I figured you really seem to know your stuff so you’d be a good person to ask!

a little acetone or nail polish remover would work great! just go in with a Q tip or something small so you can be accurate. feel free to do any spot treatment you think it may need! This is definitely a strange/ unique product. re-staining any saddle can be a tricky job so a first timer may need to touch up or wipe off :)

I'd like to know know how deep the leather dye penetrates, and if the base color shows through if the black is scuffed. It'd be real cool if this product could be used to approximate tea-core black leathers.

im not associated with this company- so i don't know how deep they're claiming- but i would only use this product to re darken a saddle thats aleady dark- i don't think this intended to be an actual deep stain- more so something to touch up older fading saddles

Thank you for your review. Is the conditioner for use in between using the recoloring balm? How was it after drying for a day or two? Did it stain the rider's jeans or riding breeches? Did you get the black balm on the saddle under fleece....if yes...did it stain it? THANKS!
@themaninblackleatherstudio
@themaninblackleatherstudio 3 жыл бұрын
the conditioner is a stand alone product. if you were to use it, you dont need the coloring. balm, but if you were using them together i would condition second. as for the transferring to clothes, i always recommend wearing a dingy pair of pants or riding on top of a rag to monitor it. that will come down more to how much excess is left on the surface, and how well the specific saddle absorbs

Thank you for making this video. Did you have yo use a deglazer on the saddle before using the recoloring balm? If you did, what did you recommend? I seen somewhere someone used lemon juice and rubbing alcohol mixed. Would that work?

I didnt prep anything, i followed the instructions that came with the package to give the most accurate representation of what to expect. im sure prepping it to some extent would probably give better results. I dont have any input since ive never had to prep something for this product. the actual products i would use for this would be strong enough to not need too much prep/ chemical prep. i know that doesnt help much, but i hope it did to some extent

@themaninblackleatherstudio you stated in the video you were going to have someone ride on the saddle and report back the next day. Yet, the next day, that information was left out. Reason for me asking. So, what product do you use most often?

can you do an update? bc I trusted the company after watching this video, and now my saddle is chipping and flaking :(
@themaninblackleatherstudio
@themaninblackleatherstudio 2 жыл бұрын
so either one of 3 things is happening 1. you could have caked it on too thick, where there was a build up that could flake off 2. your saddle has a protective coating on it, and the chemicals in this product may have reacted with it the protective coat and that coating is flaking off along with the dye. 3. the saddle may be in rough shape- if not handled properly harsh chemicals may not play nicely with old dried out leather i'm not associated with this brand, just a craftsman giving my review. and trying to help people in my youtube comments haha i hope this helped- without photos its really hard to tell

Yea until you apply water this stuff comes off! I purchased a kit for furniture and works but the minute you apply wet rag comes off. It’s not a dye looks like acrylic. Doesn’t even stain your fingers. Waste of money!!!!

Why is my shipment coming from CHINA when this company is in MD? Are we being duped?

i'm not sure! i'm not associated with them in any way. just a review of the product. if you wan me to be completely honest. i'm more interested in the quality of the product versus where it comes from. most things we own come from china, so i'm not necessarily holding it against Clydes if they do have their product made in china

I've repeatedly asked Clyde's for a refund but the only response I get from Clyde's is "your request has been updated". They don't answer the phone number given on their website and they don't return calls either. I'd seriously consider removing your video endorsing this product or at least update your video and warn people of the shading operation Clyde's is running.
