As thousands of people sat on waitlists for help from Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority, records show the housing agency spent more than $121,000 on a gala celebrating CMHA's 90th anniversary.

blacks arent good at managing, why is this hard to realize, the dysfuntion of africa, papua new guinea, haiti, is do to black people! haiti massacred all the Whites, anyone mixed, and anyone lightskinned. the cause of their dysfunction is their natural place on the evolutionary chain. We can artificially elevate them because Whites are more evolved. so it's within our capacity, but expecting them to operate normally-as-Whites in our first world, world class White societies, is disingenuous. They are simply comfortable in a much lower standard of life that Whites seek to elevate themselves and their communities out of.

Me too. And a couple employers had these stupid yearly blowouts rather than increasing our salaries or making our day to day jobs more pleasant. The worst was the place that had this stupid raffle at their big party. HR could not stop talking about it and all the fancy electronics they gave away during orientation. When it came time for the party, somehow all the administrators and HR staff got the big prizes while most of us were lucky to walk away with a cheap token. After that, I used the day to catch up on paperwork. Best job, everyone in my small department chipped in $10 a couple times a year so we could have buy a cake for everyone’s birthday. They even had a small party the last day I worked when I was laid off. There was a yearly Thanksgiving meal in the cafeteria, and the administrators served all the employees. Even the CEO.

I'm not sure why people don't understand that non-profit doesn't mean all money goes to the "cause". A non-profit can do whatever they want with funds, so long as it is recorded. They can pay themselves whatever they want. They can party as much as they want. There are no legal restrictions. Anybody can create one and many crooks do. These folks may not be crooks, but they are getting fat off of what should be called the "Homeless Industrial Complex". They live off of government grants and grants from other non-profits. They spend more time obtaining funds than spending them. The only thing that will come from these complaints is that less money may go to the fund. Not more. They guy ain't going on any diet any time soon.

As far as the woman waiting, she would be better off not totally depending on SS. I'm serious. There are jobs out there that can be done from home on a PC where she can work her own schedule and sign in and out to work. She could also find reliable and trustworthy others like her to house share. Sometimes you have to think outside the box. Where is her family? Can she rent a room from a family member? Does she go to church? Perhaps a church member, or even the parsonage, has a room to rent?

Ninety years is a long time. I don't know what their history is, but it is a big milestone. What kind of celebration would have been good to have? I am stretching to see how this could have been a public/supporter event without using organizational funds, especially with a non-profit attached to the public program. I think a fundraising event would have focused on the people in need, but it doesn't say thank you to all the people who are involved with the issue. I have been on those housing lists for years. I gave up trying. The goal needs to be permanent homes. If you make too much money in your effort to build a better life, you get kicked out and end up in the same problems - not being able to afford to live anywhere. One medical emergency leads to the same eviction... and it also takes years to qualify for disability. These are some hidden issues with government supported housing. I think some kind of ownership program needs to be figured out. The government can still own the land so it is kept for homeless and low-income housing down the line, but the resident can own the "improvements" for a partnership, silent to the government, but supportive through the process of rebuilding a life, and providing an opportunity for the future. The government can keep track of finances while the resident starts at the government payment formula of 30% of income for housing and utilities. Over time the balance sheet can become a positive flow. Taxes can be exempted until the residents can pay them. Some form of insurance can be established and added to the loan balance. When the resident is ready to move into better housing, with a traditional loan, the next resident in need can be the new homeowner. Changing the relationship between government and poverty will be hard on both, but it will become a new way of caring for people who don't have the ability to care for themselves. The subsidies that governments pay to developers, and for other housing options, will be less. They will also be temporary. And be repaid to the government. We have to find new ways to operate government funding.

In this era of unsure stability everywhere, this is over the top, for housing funds to be used! People have to celebrate, of course! But really extravagantly ? It hurts those who struggle to pay for everything. Housing is top in everyone’s mind, and it’s so ignorant to blast this in their faces, like this! God bless us all, who somehow ended up in Housing! Illness is major factor , as well as divorce, losing spouse, and losing work. Illness took my ability to be in my nursing work with the patients I loved so much. I live in another state, and moved into housing for short term, and now it’s over 10 years later! I’ve changed and less able than then, so I accept my place, because the Lord is my Shepherd, and I want for nothing, with Him! God bless you all,🙏🧡🙏🧡🙏🧡🙏🧡🙏

If they had this Gala with the intent to raise more funds… it’s not their fault that part didn’t turn out well.. it’s a fundraiser that didn’t pan out like they hoped. People can have parties and spend money, it’s sad these people are in the situations they are in yes, but they are also responsible for not saving anything for the future and retirement. It’s not all someone else’s fault

Exactly...but unfortunately 98% of commenters feel like CMHA did something wrong! 😕 Even though they have been assisting with housing for 90 years!

Throughout the country this is an issue with state city and federal programs. This is also a perspective on how the CBDC will operate.

People that have homes and jobs don't care or understand those that don't.
