Big highways cutting through the city is not a great thing. Great cities are made for people and not cars & thorough fares. India is also mindlessly burning money on road infra to enable car-ownership as against investing mindfully in rail infrastructure where its becoming super inconvenient for people to commute for e.g. the suburban trains in Mumbai. Central Railway’s main suburban line in Mumbai has not seen a single new service in last 8 years. All cities in India deserve their own autonomous transport authorities with prime focus on penalising car ownership and usage.

But there was a public transportation strike and I ended having to drive 6hours non stop (ok, one fuel stop) to get to my destination. Upon arriving at the hotel, the hotel reception said “sir, you looked very tired, can we offer you a welcome drink?”. I think I must have looked like shit upon arrival but kudos to the people in Hilton Berlin. Loved Germany especially its people and Berlin. Had great experiences there but that was a few years ago and I am retired now. I am sure the situation will improve in Germany so chin up.
