It's not the pmd that's the problems... It's the riders! Just like having a car and a car licence, We need a pmd and a pmd licence, because they are still vehicles

Ban doesn't seem to work very well.. Non-delivery e-scooters are still riding and they are the usually the most irresponsible, most dangerous, especially those inconsiderate ah beng teenagers. Food delivery people should be allowed to ride for their work, it is their livelihood. But maybe they can be highly regulated not just by government but the delivery companies too, like constraining their pmd to a certain speed. And License plate their pmd. Modification on pmd should also be ban, especially on speed. Irresponsible rouge e-scooter companies(Tons on carousell!) should be put out of business as they are usually the culprit of illegal modification of e-scooters..

Food delivery is already not an easy job and now with the rules, it’s even more difficult. And all these new rules are due to inconsiderate people. There are so many inconsiderate people in Singapore. Sad.

You guys still missed the point .. that the Minister did not do his homework before overnight ban.. He banned totally based on News report. He did not get proper statistic of those involved in accidents. Location most accident prone to happen and how it happen.

I drive a car but yet I too had quite a few dangerous near misses with PMDs because they would just shoot out from the pathway (sometimes behind parked cars) right into my lane on the main road and at times, they would suddenly dash across traffic lights to beat the last few seconds of the flashing "walking man light"! It's terrifying to say the least because they are silent and very fast, it is almost impossible to spot or hear them until it is almost too late. I also can't count the number of times when I almost had a heart attack to have a PMD whisked past me and missing me by an inch or two :( Too many accidents involving PMDs already... and to ignore this problem any further is pure negligence on the part of the lawmakers! If PMD users could just spare a thought and make it their priority to ensure the safety of other users of pathways /roads and not be too focused on reaching their destinations in the quickest time possible, I think we all can definitely share the pathways/roads together and everyone wins! Also, instead of just complaining and trying to force the government and the rest of Spore to give in to their demands, I hope PMD users will also come up with their own suggestions to help the government make appropriate and useful solutions to this problem... let's not forget MPs dont't use PMDs for a living and as a result, we cannot blame them if any solution from them are more idealistic rather than a practical and effective one. As I see there are already many promising and great suggestions in the comments, I hope the Government is reading and paying attention to them :)

The majority of the population agreed and supported the government banned on PMD. It is a safety hazard to pedestrian and motorist. And, also a fire hazard during charging to neighboring home. The food delivery have started about 30 years ago by the fast food chain with bicycle and motorcycle as their mode of transportation. There is no reason why the online food delivery services have to use PMD for their food delivery. If the dissent continue, then food delivery services have to be banned too.

This is common sense. Where I live in US you can't ride a bicycle on pedestrian paths; these PMDs are obviously more dangerous. We have designated lanes adjacent to the curb in the street that autos must respect.

Maybe the way forward is to treat PMDs as another class of licensed vehicles like the motorcycle and allow them to go on the roads but not on the footpaths, PCN and cycling paths.

In the first place, the government should build bicycle tracks for all those peoples using such transportations before allowing sales in Singapore. It's too late after someone died than make a big issues out of it.

PMD riders should have been made to go through a safety course right at the beginning. They're doing too many things wrong - not wearing a helmet, not wearing proper sports shoes or sneakers, and not watching out for pedestrians and other riders. Yet they're complaining that drivers on the road don't look out for them. Isn't that ridiculous? If everyone had started off with a sense of responsibility, there wouldn't be a need for such conflict.

The solution is short and simple: - No one under the age of 18 should be able to drive a PMD - You will need a license to drive a PMD - If you cause an accident, you will have to be responsible for it.

Suggest to put on license plate on pmd with the riders particulars bearing on the said plate.CCTV camera to put up monitoring pedestrian walkways to monitor pmd riding illegally on it,focusing on the pmds license plate.Bear in mind its not to deter the pmd riders but to educate them to ride safely within a safe speed and to avoid any accidents with the public walkers.

Well why can't they follow other countries like imposting license and allow it on road. Since e bike are also allow on road why pmd cannot be on road? And don't they know to use traffic crossing to turn right?

Why don't Singapore government expand the bicycle lanes to make it countrywide? 🤔 I mean, now that Singapore allowing e-pmd yet prohibited them on roads and footpaths, the government should work on expanding bicycle lanes to make it countrywide. Moreover, from this news, some e-pmd (that are foldable) are used as first miles and last miles transportation, which means supporting the public transport integration.

Even with the advisory period, walking on the footpath,seems like the early 2000s(yr).. with only bicycles to look out for while walking. Government needs help those delivery guys(PMD)with needs 1st...eg. alternative jobs.

The ban is almost a joke, becos people dont care anyway and no one to enforce. What we need is for people to get some sort of legit license much like a driving license as well as age limit. Anyone else that doesnt have license should not ride at all. This give legit people who works with pmd to use them and kids and teens (who is the majority of the people that misuse the pmd) can no longer ride them.

I have seen myself at least 3 near accidents caused by PMD users.

Just make PMD go on road. Have them take license, license revoke for accident and offenders

anyway since the last couple of weeks..at my area toa payoh... almost all the hibernated pmd drivers have woken up... and started to dash and manoeuvre around the footpath already la... where got ban sia!

Additionally I wish to point out an important point. That most of the previous irritants on the footpaths are actually non-delivery PMD riders but a group or even a certain gang speeding up and down the footpath terrorizing people for their own agenda. Old CCTV footage, perhaps can reveal who they are. But you have to do it fast to prevent these footage from being erased or lost somehow. Take care. There are good people in this society to make Singapore a better place for everyone.

Candy store did not close when SG ban chewing gums. As a result, we have a clearer SG. PMDs and powered assisted vehicles alike cannot operate together on the same path with pedestrian. Its unsafe and the risk of accident is high - human response to the speed and moving force of such vehicles are of no match. Its destructive and can be deadly. I was hit by an e-scooters where the rider sped-off without stopping. Hence suffered a swelling paint finger for weeks with no compensation. Ban PMDs and e-scooters to bring back the safety level to all pedestrian - young and old that we once enjoyed.

May I weigh in? please? install speed bumps on footpaths especially on parts where considered "blind spots".

Let's see how stringent the enforcement would be. There are so many smoking laws in place but never once have I seen it being enforced before.

I think food delivery companies should issue out registered PMDs with a max speed of 15KM/H for those that are delivering food. They should be allowed to ride on footpath as they are much more disciplined compared to YPs as abusive PMD food deliverers probably learnt their lesson by now. As for private PMDs, they should not be allowed to ride on footpaths only PCN paths because with registered PMDs, it’s easier to track the rider in the event of an accident.

It didn't look like it was banned, I still see non-delivery food riders zooming around footpaths esp. on weekends and in the evening.

What about having personal mobility devices scooter license like driver license .

Just create a sensor that attaches to the PMD that will auto slowdown the PMD to a walking pace within 10m of anything that is in front.

Those who mod their pmds should face heavier penalties. Govt should consider pmd licensing, aka driver license for PMD. Modding inspection should be stepped up. Lots of riders spread news about enforcers. Maybe enforcers should consider catching in plain clothes and at irregular locations.

Those brave people who have a handicap and still work as delivery rider / driver should be allowed to use mobility devices that are better suited for them, those with 3 and 4 wheels. An e-scooter is absolutely not good for balance and safe riding, if for example there is a problem with one leg as shown in the video. These mobility devices should have a speed limit of 6 kph if used on footpath, which would allow for ample reaction time. They should have a clear marking on the vehicle, and a timer on the phone that allows them parking for a short time (such as 15 minutes) on spots where parking usually is not permitted. The drivers should get a course about how to be a friendly role model which we all will be happy to see and greet, and not become a public nuisance like the e-scooters. That can also be combined with a point system where they can be rewarded bonus points at the end of the day, and then exchange these for extra financial bonuses from their company for safe driving and proper parking. Those with bad behaviour shall be banned only. Pick out the rotten fruits and enjoy the good ones! Make it safer for handicapped people on stabil 3 and 4 wheelers, but not on flimsy China e-scooters! And the other fully capable riders should use power assisted bicycles where the motor is only used to help on sloops and for starting from stop. Why would we reward laziness instead of supporting fitness? These riders can participate on the same course / class as well. Even performing a short riding demo may be considered. Everyone who wants or needs to ride faster should use the road and the vehicle be considered being moped or motorbike, inkl. requirements for mirrors, 2 independent brakes, insurance, etc., same as all motorized road users.

The solution for food delivery is not by trips as it will make the riders rush for time. The solution should be to pay delivery guy by hour.

In the past there were no e-scooters and we still live life as per normal. Car-lite city vision does not mean we have to use e-scooters. If e-scooters speeds be default were manufactured and hard set to like 2km/h or equivalent to walking pace, then they are safe to be used on footpaths. Anything with speed greater than a walking pace should stay on roads. Period.

Big difference between Government Taking ACTIONS and Government taking the WRONG ACTIONS. Enforcements should be carried out massively before deciding on the ban. We pay our ministers millions of dollars and this is the shit they delivered to us? This is a USER problem, not DEVICE problem, go after the user, not ALL USERS. Start a National Safety and Awareness Campaign to it a responsibility for everyone to do their part and spread the word. NOT JUST 1 SIMPLE STUPID BAN.

The BAD EGGS of the PMD users are personal users. I have so far encounter zero problems from these delivery guys.

Literally every country which prohibits escooters on pavements, allow them on roads... Singapore has the harshest overnight ban if you compare with countries across the reigon. Other countries actually do something about the real issue of errant riders (just as there are errant motorists) by imposing license requirements and age limits. Singapore's solution is truly the laziest.

Not to blame everyone either the LTA or the PMD riders. In fact majority teenagers youngster is causing big problem everywhere down the road. Minister of transport is smart but not wise enough to handle this matter. That caused him lost in the recent general election. I did came to LTA headquater and interviewed in early stage February 6 2018. Tried to solve the problem by age matter.(Age control for elderly and those who doing food delivery)(Parents to send kid to school too) LTA making a consideration pertaining to the matter. That said, if there was a PMD course you had to pass, would that help? There still are moronic drivers, so maybe not. What if only PMDs could be used for business purposes? South korea above age 16 and require motobike license to ride pmd so they will understand road traffic when riding on road. Ban on foot path is the correct decision. it is called a foot path for a reason for your use of feet to walk on.
