I reckon that no matter how hard Hong Kong tries to integrate or stay aloof, neither way would save Hong Kong from failing tbh. Integration could kill Hong Kong (at least the very concept) but the current environment has changed, no longer allowing HK to play wingman. Sadly, the existence of Hong Kong has never been sustainable; it has always been an oddity in history somehow gaining advantages from its neighbour's (not particularly china, SEA countries as well) timely misfortunes.
