Amid a global push to ditch fossil fuels, oil-rich countries in the Gulf are working hard to diversify their economies and transition away from the very commodity that has been the source of their wealth for decades. This documentary examines efforts by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to transform their economies, through the eyes of foreign professionals from Asia.

Nah, they're running out of (future) customers to sell oil to. Now they're scrambling to pivot. If they were smart, they would do as Norway did and invest their wealth for this day, and continue to innovate their economy. Sadly, they rested on their laurels

@@hasnat9545 they have to because they were being listed as “tax avoiding country” by other countries which would affect their international transactions and international trades overall. It’s only 9% corporate tax no personal income tax, no tax for anyone who makes under $102k and theirs small business relief if you make under $800k annually which you can apply.

I work for company based in Singapore, our technical director from China. He's very intelligent and persistence, and have no problems working in long our and weekend. His is one of the best company asset 😂

Saudi youth that I’ve seen in social media also have some weird pan-Asian mindset😅they truly think East Asia and SEA etc are closer to them than Europe and the West ig them growing up with Asian media played a rule

In the Same time Saudi youth distance themselves from other Middle Easterns and Arabs with a Sense of Nationalism, I think this might be because neighboring countries are way underdeveloped like there is no Shared experience between an Iranian or Iraqi and a Saudi, Saudi Gen Z is way more nationalistic than older Saudis but somehow more welcoming to East Asian Culture and Expats

The UAE and Saudi Arabia have long relied heavily on outside expertise to develop their country. They seem to have no self-confidence to advance their own country. They're willing to pay something at a high price to get it rather than trying to build it themselves. That's the mentality of the Arabs from the past to the present

I have nothing against the Gulf and its enhabitants. May they prosper in peace. But it doesn't sound sustainable when 75% of workforce in tech is foreign and almost 100% of workforce in construction/industry are foreign.

I have heard there a millions of Filipinos working in the Middle East along with Indians, Pakistanis, Nepalis, Bangladeshis. Maybe they didn't show us because most of our people work in low end Labour jobs like construction worker, hotel staff, maids, nurse, drivers, cleaners, etc. And this documentary is about the High Tech stuff.

Gulf cities like dubai, abu dhabi, doha are far better in terms of planning, wide roads, safer for women, transport, quality of life compared to east asian cities like tokyo, seoul, hongkong. Those are truely hell and are skyscraper dystopian world.
