They had the latest USSR export equipment, were using textbook USSR tactics, and were by far the most battle-experienced troops in the world at that point. But all the anti-west; anti-American naysayers were dead wrong. After that there was 10 years of low-level conflicts, expensive no-fly zones, and conflicts with the UN weapons inspectors trying to verify they actually dismantled their indeginous chemical weapons program etc, etc. 2003 was done on faulty intelligence obtained from torture (but torture that is so far less than what any autocratic country does, there's no genuine comparison) and a desire and greed for secure access to its the lifeblood of civilization, oil, and was wrong given the justification. But only someone who is ignorant, ingenuine, or a supporter of a despot/dictator like Xi would pretend that Iraq was this innocent, rule of law abiding, democratic, moral country.
