This video didn’t mention that US sponsored a coup in Solomon island against the government, the government asked military help from Australia and didn’t get any, which led to the security agreement with China. In addition, Australia didn’t provide earthquake assistance and China did also speed up the pro China movement. There is always two sides of the story.

As a Solomon Islander I can say that Chinese are way more effective. When they say they will do something, you see results in 3-6 months. The same can be said for the Japanese. Australia, US and NZ also gives us alot of money but most of these goes towards "consulting services" with no actual results on the ground. Maybe Asians are just better at putting their aid money to good use.

It's true that they do get the job done, but it sometimes comes at the cost of cheap labor, that including skipping safety protocols when building certain structures. This doesn't mean it's always like this, but keep that in mind in case of future incidents involving projects that finish sooner than they should. I still agree with your points however. The west does take longer or flat out don't help properly with their "aid" programs.

Hmm.. I would be wary & cautious of China-made construction. Even in China it's own people are aware of poor workmanship & bad construction by China companies! They call it "Tofu dreg" where corners are cut to save costs & health n safety codes broken to speed up construction etc... only for the finished product/building/bridge/road etc to decay, crumble or fall afew years later!

@@ssss8162 You have a good point. National sovereignty is a malleable idea. To quite a degree, all sorts of tiny regions atmospherically retain it. Think of the soccer teams of Wales and of Scotland participating in world cups, or of the de-facto recognition in many parts of the Earth of the Dalai Lama as an infallible authority although this man considers himself the head of a nation! The other way around, a person in Britain officially is the head of many areas typically included in lists of sovereign states, among them Australia. Indeed, you have those directories with the currently 195 "sovereign states". But who prints them? A look into footage from a recent conference in Samarkand with Putin, Xi, and heads of "sovereign states" which have before been parts of the Soviet Union will tell you that such latter leaders feel a lot of unease concerning their involvement with "Russia", knowing very well that Putin's war against Ukraine is largely a warning example. What I meant was an official step, like the one taken by the Hawaiians when they have accepted an annexation through the USA.

If they felt a group of people was close to them in nature then they would give them leeway and try to trade with them. If they felt a group of people was too different from them and that they therefore should and could be hostile to them they want MC hammer on the locals. And nobody can say this is not true. The dominican republic and Haiti are the same island yet they got different treatment for the US. My jaw dropped as I learned Native Americans population in their motherland, the Continent of America before European Colonizers arrived was around 15 millions, while the European population in their motherland, the Continent of Europe was around 25 millions. - Today, Native American population in their motherland is 15 million, while the European population, in the Continent of America + Europe, is a staggering 'TWO BILLIONS'! A sad truth. The fact that notorious Anglo Western clans are major participants & benefactors of Colonization worldwide, stretching from North America, the land rightfully belongs to indigenous Native American people to Australia/New Zealand in Asia-Pacific, the land rightfully belongs to Native people of Asia Pacific region. - May I ask if Anglo West have any laws at all for dealing with past and present notorious global cardinal crimes like Slavery, Colonialism & Colonization of vast bountiful resourceful Continents, such as North America, which rightfully belongs to indigenous Native Americans, and to Australia and New Zealand in Asia-Pacific region, which rightfully belongs to Native people of Asia Pacific? - In my humble opinion, it's about time to decolonize the Colonized lands, and return it to rightful owners. Remember, notorious global cardinal sins & crimes the Anglo West has committed and benefited a great deals, such as Slavery and Colonialism had long been over, why on earth is notorious Colonization still lingering on? 😔 -mamajune3864

So ironically, most of you may not know how much Singapore has invested in China and how much investment Singapore has received from China. Just take a look at the portfolio of Temasek and the shareholders of Shopee, Grab, SEA, etc., you will be amazed. Concurrent to making money from the trade and investment with China, Singaporean public media is advocating the threat of Chinese investment in other countries. Then why Singapore is still trading with and investing heavily in China?

Partly agree. While that is true, if you were to look around, the companies that have invested in Singapore stems mainly from US & Europe. Way more than China. What is in Singapore’s best interest to the balance between the West & China. Singapore should neither be 100% for China or like you say “advocating the threat of Singapore investment”. And in that light, I wonder why it was not as objective in this video too - the rhetorics are biased against Chinese without a good balance of what the West did and did not do. Singapore needs to stay more objective while not trying to appear to placate either sides.

I sailed to Gizo in the Soloman Islands from Micronesia. Most of the people were incredibly poor. Unlike the "Empire of Chaos" as Pepe Escobar refers to the USA, China invests money in infrastructure in many Pacific Island States. I've seen it myself in Tonga and now I know of it in the Solomon Islands. When I was sailing out of Gizo to Australia there was a $25 customs clearance fee for the yacht. They couldn't find the 'receipt' book, so they waved the fee. I said, "Just take the money and don't worry about the receipt"! The incredibly honest Customs officer said "I'm not allowed to accept cash without a receipt" ! A few years later I was speaking at a climate change conference in Wellington and met the delegate from the Solomon Islands I bought all his beers because he wouldn't take the money either! Very honourable people from my experience. They know they can't trust the empire.

It's in the western interests like US, Australia and allies to keep the Pacific islands under developed, poor and disunited so that they beholden to them and dependent on their charity and labour - as well as to convert them politically and spiritually (missionaries) like their ancestorial colonists did. An independent an self-supporting nation with its own views of national development and destiny would pose a threat to them. They feel even threatened with the islander proclamation of "friends to all and enemy to none". Basically they want these islands to be under their sphere of influence - no more no less.

Both the east and the west are trying to neocolonise the world. At this point weaker nations should ask themselves which boss is better and which one will be less harsh on them. There is no charity or whatever. If for some reason aligning with the east will benefit you do it. If for some reason aligning with the west will benefit you do it. My guess is that 75-80% of the global South will Choose China within 10-20 years. The rest will side with the western world which is around 20-25% of the population.

Because China is not a friend, it exploits these cultures to give employment to Chinese, not to islanders! Japan was not a friend, neither were Europeans during colonization, neither will China be friendly once this huge investment of China is made. What is absolutely sure, is that island officials are deeply corrupted by Chinese investment. Look at the terrible real estate crash in China now, the islands will be sucked into this. Your comment is that of a troll, not of someone who has listened to the outrage of islanders who know their corrupt prime minister will use Chinese money and Chinese soldiers to maintain power.

Because the world is a small place. Because what the past tells us. Ie The battles in the Solomons prevented invasion of Australia. Same counts for today. A sovereign country, like the Solomons must realize that allowing armed Chinese there, they open the door. Who would suffer the most once China and Australia gets to fight? The Solomons, as Australia wouldn't be able to afford China stationing its military there. The game now is "how to get aid from China and Australia" by playing them off against each other. But the game can change quickly into China and Australia ignoring Solomons and facing each other on those very islands. So, that's why "outsiders worry" and Solomon Islanders should realize that they should start worrying too, because they can get trapped in the middle and get bombs instead of help because of a misunderstanding between the CCP and Australia and them not being considered in the argument. Commerce should be welcomed. Samoa's ex prime Minister says "why would China's military come to a small island like Samoa?" How come he doesn't understand geopolitics? The CCP is a threat because it wants to change everything and with change comes uncertainty and possible miscalculation and misunderstanding and desperation and conflict and war. Why are they building such a big military?

Which TWO countries invaded and occupied Indonesia? ANSWER: Netherlands for 350 years Japan for 3.5 years 2. Which country was once the colony master of Malaya & India? Britain 3. Which countries invaded and occupied Vietnam? a. France in 1857-1940 & 1946-1954 b. Japan in 1940-1945#. c. USA (in Southern Vietnam) in 1955-1975. 4. Which countries were responsible for colonisation of the AFRICAN continent? Belgium, Britain, France, Germany, Portugal, Spain and Italy 5. Which 8 countries were responsible for the occupation of CHINA in early 20th century? Britain, US, Germany, France, Russia, Japan, Italy Austria-Hungary 6. Which countries are responsible for colonising and almost annihilating the AMERICAN NATIVE INDIANS in northern America? France Britain 7. Which country colonised and almost annihilated Aborigines in Australia and New Zealand? Britain From the mid-1820s to 1832, Aboriginal Australians fought a guerrilla warfare against the invading BRTISH colonists in Tasmania, which historians called the Black War. It claimed the lives of 600 to 900 Aboriginal people and nearly annihilating the whole of the island's indigenous population. The near-destruction of the Aboriginal Tasmanians, and the frequent incidence of MASS KILLINGS. has been described by historians as an act of GENOCIDE. 8. Which are the member countries of G7? United Kingdom/Britain Canada France Germany Italy Japan USA 9. COUNTRIES COMMITTED THE WORST CRIME AGAINST CRIME IN THE 20th CENTURY GERMANY against European Jews in WW II JAPAN in the MASSACRE of Chinese in NANKING CHINA between DECEMBER 1937 to JANUARY 1938 BRITAIN in Jallianwala Bagh Massacre, also called Massacre of Amritsar in India by the BRITISH On April 13, 1919, British troops fired on a large crowd of UNARMED Indians in an open space known as the Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar in the Punjab region (now in Punjab state) of India, killing more than 1,50O Indian civilians over 1,200 other people. The large PEACEFUL crowd had gathered at the Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar, Punjab to protest against the arrest of pro-Indian independence leaders Dr. Saifuddin Kitchlew and Dr. Satya Pal. 10. WHICH COUNTRIES ENGAGED IN WHOLESALE AFRICAN SLAVERY TRADE BRITAIN and USA Merchant ships set out from Britain, loaded with trade goods which were exchanged on the West African shores for slaves captured by local rulers from deeper inland. The slaves were transported through the infamous "Middle Passage across the Atlantic, and were sold at considerable profit for labour in plantations. It is estimated that Britain transported 3.1 million Africans since 1641, (of whom 2.7 million arrived) to the British colonies in the Caribbean, North and South America and to other countries. Approximately 600,000 of 10 million African slaves made their way into the AMERICAN colonies before the slave trade was banned by Congress in 1808. (BUT SLAVERY WAS NOT BANNED) By 1860, though, the US recorded nearly 4 million enslaved black people - 13% of the population - in the country as the American-born population grew. 11. When the United States talks about "rules-based international order," it actually means "an international order based on U.S. hegemonic control." So when the United States wants other countries to abide by the "rules-based international order", it is actually coercing other countries to submit to the rules imposed by the US hegemony, NOT by International Law. Under this "rule-based international order" Whatever war crime, illegal invasion, assignation, regime chance, coercion, ethnic cleansing, bombing, murder etc done by American are legal, American are exempted from any legal action in any court and NO action can be taken against any American citizen involved. Whatever same act done by the country or citizen of other countries; they are liable AND MUST BE PUNISHED. usa CAN build 800 Military base at other country but NOT other country, US can put as many Nuclear bomb on other countries soil but NOT Russia or China, USA and its allies can build as many nuclear bomb as they like BUT NOT North Korea, Iran, Venezuela and others.

Climate change is one of the most pressing political, economic and environmental issues of our time. It demands honest and timely collective global actions. Despite the ever-rising environmental catastrophes that are occurring around the world from destructive hurricanes, cyclones and flooding to sea level rise, coastal erosion, drought, fire, and sea acidification, there are climate change deniers who argue that climate change is not posing the kind of danger that is being put forward. Yet, if the global community does not take drastic measures now, climate change could result in many of the Pacific island nations being wiped from the map of the world in the not so distant future. The small island nations of the Pacific region are more vulnerable to the acute effects of climate change than any other region in the world. Most of these volcanic islands are barely a few metres above sea level (ADB, 2019). Ocean level rise amongst other climatic changes is threatening the very existence of these geographically isolated and small land masses. ‘The rising scale and the intensity of storm surges, saltwater intrusion and coastal destruction of the past decades have decimated coping capacities, leaving island populations with failing crops, crippling water shortages and an uncertain future’ (Hassan and Cliff, 2019). The existential threat of environmental change is irrefutably claiming land and human lives year-in and year-out. Furthermore, for many

Extra caution. when dealing with the communist from China. Don't even believe what they tell you. Ask Dalai Lama and Sinchiang people. Now they wanted to take over Taiwan by force.

Solomon Islands and Samoa can easily become another Hawaii of the East. With some investment, millions of middle income Chinese can flock to warmer weather Solomon Islands for vacation as Chinese tourist attraction have become too crowded or not encouraged to SK, Japan. Solomon Island and Samoa can be the replacement vacation spots. It is an alternatives to Singapore and Malaysia as it maybe less expensive. As long as it is safe for the Chinese. Why keep going to Thailand. Let's go to the Pacific.

@@tonyeclau So true. It’s a game war between the oligarchs and the western political elites versus the global south who wants to grow and develop. When the west pours money into the country it calls investments. When China does it, the game changes to debt traps all in the mighty name of National Security. One can only asked whose security is it is that the world is concerned? With naval fleets sailing down from the North and the amount of fuel consumed by these countries where do you think the pollution lands?

We Samoans are only making businesses with Chinese n partners but not with military issues..we are not blind by those debt traps. We also received many more aids from our friendly donors like Australia NZ United States through school scolarships, trainings ect...we stood firm to make sure no one would take away our values our rights our lands and freedom..we love being a democratic country inline with our traditional and christian values

Interesting. I think you may be on to the right path by saying. Samoans work together. Identifying the lack of Value chains are easy. What is not easy? Is to convince the culture to change ..... To identify the culture requires to identify where value is lacking and to make the "give" to others in exchange for dollars. Wealth builds when the culture is able to scale their give and to hire others to help achieve the scale upwards..... It's amazing even in our western society. People who work for min wage....get upset for getting so few dollars per hour. Yet. They too have failed to recognize the value they give in their job is only limited to a min wage description. The more value given the higher the wage. A higher wage cannot be achieved without investing in education

Rivers edge right under explained to you what's up. Can you give them anything they think is of value without them already taking it away from you? Most of your resources they can have and take. And they do not expecting any other contribution from you as a whole. The individuals that can contribute are taken and siphoned away through brain drains. So no the western world will not invest in you because there is nothing you can offer them that they can't already take. And they do not want to do it either. They want China to stop going around the world trying to invest in poor global south countries. It's ruining their jam. The system they setup was working just fine for them. And they feel and think that China has no right to come mess everything up.

Chinese don't send NAVY Gunboats to kill the local population by shelling or handing out diseased blankets. The Chinese hand out Money to invest in business infrastructure and skills to help the locals maintain and improve infrastructure. The British even banned local languages and forced only English to be spoken.

That’s true. Chinese fishermen go to another countries and gathered all they can get from the bottom of the ocean. They did it in the Philippines West Sea. They took everything they could get like thousand years old tortoises ,sea shells , tunas and others. China sea is already depleted of sea foods that’s why China explores in other countries . They even went to Galápagos Islands hence the South Americans are pissed off. China is overfishing the ocean and they deprive the locals from their own sea side.😊

The riots were antagonised by the US. China made a security deal with them. Since the plans to do the same on Papoea new Guinea. were disbanded by the US. So China won the geopolitical race/war on the Solomon islands and lost it in Papoea new Guinea. You can go to Amit Sengupta's youtube channel where he explains everything

The similarities of Chinese involvement in Solomon Islands and Sri Lanka is jarring. Sri Lanka is now a bankrupt country with its citizens paying the full price - not the leaders who got super rich from Chinese deals. Good luck to the people of Solomon Islands.

sri lanka comes to bankrupt because poorly government management and the US deliberately raised interest rates ! and China loan only count for 20% of all loans Sri landka owed . the majority lender are from Japan and West commerical banks which counted 80%, China loan at lowest rate among all. stupid people like you always pass lies from the west mainstream media.
