A recent agreement for a minimum floor price of $2600 per tonne for buyers of Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire’s cocoa will see farmers get a little more from the cocoa industry. Akin Laoye, Executive Director of FTN Cocoa Processors and Raphael Dapaah, Founding Director of Dapaah Group joins CNBC Africa as we explore what the future holds for West Africa’s cocoa industry.

Sir, you omitted one important use of Cocoa. The pods of the cocoa burnt into ashes a and the ashes are melt or dissolve and sieve and use in making soap. The solution is a base you add oil stir it whilst on fire boiling until it solidified and become soap

How could it be fair that cocoa farmers reap a measly 2% of their products' market value? This is an outrage! This must change now!!!! It is high time that these hard working farmers be righteously compensated!!!.

Great move. Hopefully the two countries stick to their grounds and invite other cocoa producing countries on board. This can become the OPEC of cocoa producing countries. Finally, it’s great to implement all these policies but if the corruption, greed and mismanagement does not end or controlled with appropriate punishment or deterrent, the countries will not enjoy the true benefits of the policies. Just saying 🤷🏾‍♂️🤔😉👍🏿🙏🏿👌🏿💪🏿🇬🇭🍫

when will African learn that for them to be economically successful they must industralize. they money is not in raw materials, the money is in the finished product. why are cocoa being shipped out? why not build factories locally that can transform the raw material into finished product?

The question is why didn’t the chocolate makers already have factories there ? We already know the answer but the public needs to ask them directly .

When dealing with any grant from European Union or any other outside entity, as it relates to The Intercontinental African Countries Free Trade Agreement, we must remember our colonial position as the Black race and maintain focus on our Pan African Functions to Utilize Our Own Raw Materials And Natural Resources To Build Africans As A Significant People Building the Most Significant Continent. We should rather focus on Science and Technology in order to add more value to our raw materials. Pan Africanism cannot do anything for us. Science and Technology is the answer.
