The reason to machine using 5 axes is to put the cutter bit at the maximum advantage so it remains most rigid. 5 axis allows you to put your cutter bit at 90degrees to the surface so you can remove the maximum or have the best surface finish because cutting pressure is pushing straight into the axis of the cutter where it is stiffest. vs 3 axis cutting which is always pushing the cutter bit sideways, so that chatters easily. 5 Axis Also shortens the necessary length of the cutter bit which again stiffens it.

i believe this tool path is damaging to endmill. it stands on single place in material while it changes axes, tools dont like that, it dulls the edge like crazy. I could be wrong.

@5ow689 You are not able to program a complex toolpath by your own. The CAM soft does it... so programming time is not a point....

I'm not quite seeing what the big advantage is with that additional tilting axis. Where does it save time or what functionality does it add that it wouldn't otherwise have?
