Microsoft shows off holograms you can wear and hold with a mixed-reality game called Project X Ray. The new game runs on the company's HoloLens platform.

+dr34dh34d for now. look up project fortaleza and look at the leaked xbox roadmap. It's actually behind schedule because of the terrible launch and the reason why it's being marketed as it's own device first is because they learned their lesson with kinect. I bought my xb1 because I'm a super nerd and plan on using the xb1 as my smart home hub eventually if everything goes to plan for them. Is called one because of that actually. Then plan is for you to be controlling your house (lights, AC, locks, ect.) from the xbox via kinect or whatever. Also a reason why it supports Wi-Fi Direct (the controllers themselves actually use this too) is because it has been promised to be the answer to the Internet of Things (a term I think Cisco coined to describe a world where things, not even always electronics, have direct communication with eachother) Think traffic cones talking to Street lights and cars or your refrigerator talking to your oven. The transmission directly between the things without a router or anything. The semi popular tech Miracast uses this to create wireless displays. Xbox has a Miracast app in preview that should officially come out with Windows 10 for xbox I hope.

dr34dh34d 1 when is the xbox brand tied to a controller 2 I use kinect for everything like turning my TV, changing the volume, literally everything once it become a smart hub 3 look up illumiroom. Obviously not feasible on its own with kinect and projectors but what seen can be accomplished with hololens even better. Lol your logic, quit hating just to hate. By the way, they have stated before it should beore than the xbox but less than the surface.

I noticed how slow he's moving. I think the technology 's video capture rate is really slow right now. Maybe they should add higher framerate capturing cameras to the device.

But every journalist who's actually used one says the image is confined to a very small area and disappears if you move your head wrong. So is it huge rock solid high def images bursting into your room like the demos? Or a small box with basic image quality that you have to hold still to look at?

Kinect was not a failure. Tech from Kinect is being used and is evolving. Hololens itself uses a lot of tech from the Kinect. Windows hello as well. Bold and inventive.

It's nice but you would need a big ass living room. This would be great for outdoor VR Laser tag tournaments or some type horde mode gameplay.

+Jacky Nguyen It not really for gaming, it for everything. It for designing stuff and such. It basically helpful. PLAYSTATION VR'S Is mainly for gaming. Microsoft hologram glasses is helpful while sony glasses it more entertainment.

+Nayef AHAJJAM Add to that "any room"...what, any room with only two walls? That will continue to be a problem. Any mass produced game will have generic requirements. (I'd like to see an AI that can deal with ANY environment built to fit an Xbox...).I still haven't heard about their counter to motion sickness...several developers say games like that are a "no-go", again, won't work for the masses...

Playstiation VR This is probably future for gaming however microsoft hologram glasses is mainly for designing stuff in reality, like 3d object in your laptop. (Search more for information yourself) But it's not exactly fully functional gaming form. It's not to say it useless although. It's amazing step forward.

Cool proof of concept, but seems kind of dishonest as to what the tech is currently capable of. FYI: last I heard the Field of View for this device is a measly 30 degrees. The image that is projected on the lens is super small, and very transparent. It can't project dark pixels, only lights. They just announced the developer's edition for the Hololens, and it's a cool $3,000. So until they get a workable FOV, a more opaque image, and a higher refresh rate, the unit itself is fairly useless. I wonder what the latency is like.

+David Pifko Small FOV is not bad for this breakthrough technology. It will be 3 to 4 years for the CPUs and the sensors to advance in performance. U can miss the fun for the next 4 years before it satisfies your requirement or APPLE innovates this in another 4 years. @2019, u can stand in line at the Apple store.

+CanadaRulez4Ever it not useless. This hologram glasses can do much more stuff then this has shown. It can do Skype, designing bikes, designing tools, Facebook, t.v, mine craft games. I;ve watch video but Im not an expert on it. It definitely useful for designing stuff on your windows.
