My 2017 Ram 3500 Mega Cab AISIN on 20” wheels has a problem...it shakes. After Three sets of tires, two sets of wheels and three separate opinions with multiple road force balancing we have started the lemon law process.
The “we owe” was to fix the shaking btw

Check the Viscous Damper on the engine, a bad damper will mostly be felt at higher speeds and will be felt in the transmission and drive-train components.

I have a 2017 ram 2500, 26k miles that had exactly the same issue with a subtle shaking starting at ~65mph. Mind you, the truck was totaled, I got it from an auction and repaired it. It had slight shaking exactly as your showing and describing. I was reading over these comments and was very worried. Replaced the sway bar links, started looking on Amazon for a steering box stabilizer brace. But tried one more quick thing, and it WORKED (maybe I just got lucky). I took it to discount tire and had all the wheel ROAD FORCE BALANCED, I sat there abs watched them do it. The first tech had no clue how to use the machine right, he was just gonna do a regular balance, but I started probing him about how I was expecting the force roller to come into contact with the wheel for this balance. He called a manager that actually DID know how to use it, they had to remount the tires onto the rims so a certain portion of the tire aligned with the valve stem. It ACTUALLY WORKED, driving home so glad I thought this was gonna be a nightmare, been trying to figure out the shaking several days. My conclusion is, if you’re going to balance the wheels on your truck, WATCH them do it, good chance that they will do a regular balance on your wheels and it may or may not actually fix the issue like it did for me.

I own a 2018 Ram 2500 CTD. I had a smooth running truck with the Firestone Tires and 18" OEM Allow wheels from the day I drove it off the lot. The first tire rotation caused my truck to start vibrating same as yours. Ended up one of the front tires were worn just enough to make the bed shake once they were mounted on the rear axle. I could move them back to the front and it drove smooth again. The front is over 5K lbs. dead weight whereas the rear is about 3K lbs. For some reason the rear of the truck does not like untrue or out of round tires. You may want to try this. Put your rear axle up on jack stands, turn off the traction control, start the engine, put it in gear and run up to 70mph. I bet you'll find the bed shaking like crazy. That would mean either your wheel/tire combo is bad or the axle bolt circle is out of round making the tire run off center. I recently installed a new set of Michelin Defender tires on my OEM wheels. Some tires took 6 oz. of weight to balance. The Firestone tires had only 1 or 2 oz of weight on each one. The truck runs smooth at any speed now. In short, your truck has a problem in the rear. Either the OEM tires/wheels are out of round, the axle bolt circle is of center, or even you have a bad axle hub or bearing. Try putting the truck on jack stands. You will find your problem quickly.

My 14 did it. Ended up taking the driveshaft to a performance shop, had it spun and it was actually out of round. No balancing would help. Ended up getting a new 5” Alcoa driveshaft made and it was smooth as butter!

Just finished the lemon law process with my 17 3500 dually. Went through 4 sets of tires and the dealers kept saying it was the tires. Bought the truck brand new 5 miles on it, started having the "shakes" at around 3,000 miles 65-78mph . Dealers (went to multiple) kept saying tires/rim/balance/alignment (all not covered under warranty). The last service was centramatic wheel balancers, new tires AND rims now its 72-77mph. I started the lemon process at 35k miles, over 2 years ago and because of it being my daily driver and COVID really "messed" the case up because attorney fees kept racking up and the courts were closed all last year. Was at 80k miles by the time I had a court date and ended up settling out of court because of the miles on the truck. My advice is if you plan on doing the lemon law don't drive the truck if you can avoid it which I couldn't justify having an $70,000 paper weight. Hopefully with money I get, I can dabble in trying to find a fix for it. Also I never thought I would sue a company but with so many people having that issue and paying that much for a vehicle. They need to know it's an issue and that's the way to get their attention for sure.

I’m sorry to hear that. This problem coupled with FCAs outright ability to ignore it on these trucks is appalling. No fix has been found. My 2014 f250 did that for the first 12k miles at the same speed. The dealer changed out both drive shafts and tires twice and nothing fixed it. They also road force balanced the tires more times than I could count. While towing our camper, I noticed the stock Ranchos were getting weak so I replace them with Bilsteins and have had no shake since 12k miles. I now have 104k miles and smooth sailing. I think the Ram 3500 and Ford f250 and f350s have a very similar suspensions and drivetrains.

Intense Pisgah Biker thanks for this. Merry Christmas by the way. I’ll look at all the possibilities. I noticed my rear diff leaking really bad at the pinion and yoke so she is going in tomorrow for a while I’m sure. I want them to replace the carrier bearings, the yoke and the seal and I would prefer them to change out the diff as well but that’s un likely. If this fixes it then we should be good but I’ll have another video posting here soon after the holidays on the progress and what FCA has told me. Thanks again for the direction and I’ll check it out.

Very strange. I bought my 2018 Dually used with 12000 on the odometer. The stock Nexen tires were garbage, they would develop flat spots if parked for a week or so. I replaced the tires with a set of General Grabber ATs. No more issues and it’s by far the nicest truck I’ve ever bought. That being said, the Coopers should have cured your truck just the same. That’s not a front end issue you have, it’s rotational out of balance. Maybe an axel shaft or something not true or out of round. Not a wobble, it’s a bounce and yes tires are number 1 suspect always. I would doubt serious enough to warrant giving you anew truck over but all the same they need to fix it. Hope you get it sorted out fella.

On our 2016 we started feeling the vibration in first 5000 miles. Now at 75K, among three different dealers, we have a new drive shaft and new half shaft on passenger side on rear end after uncovering a slight bend to it but the vibration is still there. Changing to third set of tires soon. Firestone Transforce ATs were OEM, changed out at about 40k to BFG KO2s that are all chopped now. Bought Cooper AT3 XLTs from TireRack and will have dealership do the mount and balance. We also have Centramatic balancers, which have helped but the vibration is still there. The hunt continues... We hate to have to do the lemon law thing because we don't believe it's there to help the consumer but we may have to try...

Same problem with a 2017 CC DRW 4WD with Aisin. Truck has been in 4 different shops for greater than 3 months. First they agree with the problem and then they back out and say it's normal! 3rd set of tires 2 alignments and now out of warranty. I believe I discovered the recall when I found my pitman arm nut and track bar loosened to the point of near catastrophe. Ram Customer Care tries to help but is shut down by corporate so it seems. This is my 3rd new from dealership Dodge diesel truck in 11 years. It is also my last! I love my truck but if dodge refuses to stand behind their product, why should I? Here I come GM!

I thought the ram on the video was my last until I drove a 2019. They corrected all the problems with the 4th gen. This means they knew there are problems with them. They will never acknowledge them to be there but they still fixed them on the new ones. Overall you best option is to get out of the truck. The 2019 is great and I think it would make you happy. Coming from a long line of GM trucks I can tell you the GM trucks are excellent but fall short when compared to the new 4.5 gen ram HD’s. I’m sorry you’re having problems. I know how hard it is to live with it. Right now Ram is offering great incentives so it might help eat up some of the pain and cost you have already put into it. Hope you get the problem solved.

Get your tires trued. Its not a truck problem its a tire problem, the ram is veryyyyyyy sensitive to tires that are out of round. Most large tires are not built perfect. I had my first 3500 replaced by dodge, tires, wheels, driveshafts 7 times at the dealer in a month, they replaced my truck with another 3500, didnt shake as bad. I now had my truck 3 years 60k miles. Just bought brand new tires at 60k, balance and alighnment, truck shook worse than ever, you dont need road force. I took my truck to a semi shop, with the new tires, they trued the tires, cut the tread on axle. Its smoother than a damn cadillac now.

I hear ya, i was disappointed and frustrated too, but its not the truck. They are built stiff as hell to tow so any uneven tread will cause vibration. No balancing or road force will fix this issue. I read a post on a forum recently. A guy said the main source of the vibrations comes from the leaf springs. I have ideas but nothing definitive. WOW a free oil change huh. Terrible. My outcome was "normal operations" I traded the 4th gen for a 5th (4.5 gen???) gen Cummins and haven't looked back. They knew about the problems and thats why they corrected it in the 2019+ however I believe, and this is ONLY my opinion, that RAM could not financially handle the weight of a recall for this issue. Public acknowledgement is and will be the nail in the coffin. In their mind its a problem, not a safety issue anyway and there are more smooth trucks that bad ones so they will ignore it forever. I am sorry you are having your issues that you are having. I have not read of a fix that is A) practical or B) that has actually worked.

Mr79xlch arbitration. I completely agree it’s 100% not normal and it’s sad to see they are ignoring the issue all the way to the top. Only you can decide whether or not the deal they offer you is right for you. The depreciation is normal especially on the rams since they are heavily incentivized. That said the dampeners are a cheaper option but the 2019 has a completely new chassis so it would take some time to find the best place to put them and then mock of a mount.
