This is in America (at least college level) for all the people asking. There is national championships held in Philadelphia and I even play for varsity in High School.

A public announcment For the Americans! this is a kind of "football" with less steroids, no armor and a lot more balls, then the American "football" there is very littel "foot" in this game an therfor it is not called football but rugby in the rest of the world.

As an American, I can tell you that it is growing quickly in popularity. Here's to hoping that the Olympics gives it the spotlight it needs/deserves in the States.

It's tougher because you guys cant tackle for shit, you just run in with your heads. In american football its about 1 minute of concentrated play, rugby it's the whole game and sevens its 7 minutes of extremely labour intensive work.

I'm from the UK and I prefer American football to regular rugby, it's far more intense when it gets going.

So... There are no protections or helmets in rugby, and what happens if you get seriously hurt or land on your head really hard?

Watch a game, or some highlights. You could probably find some here on KZfaq. I'm sure you'll soon see why they don't really need that stuff and still don't get many serious injuries. If you want to see it played at it's best, I'd suggest an international between New Zealand and Australia or South Africa.

You get back up, put some vaseline and duct tape on any bleeding wounds, and get back in the game. The game IS in America, just not at the level of football. Most Div 1 colleges have intercollegiate rugby teams.

Rich Hudson You guys do have a rugby team, dude. So they must play it there somewhere. What you guys really want to bring to the U.S. though, is Rugby League, the rules are a bit different, so like how in American Football you get four downs, in Rugby League you get a set of six, which is six tackles, so generally after the fifth tackle your team will kick the ball if they are not in a position to run it at the try line, because otherwise they have to hand over the ball to the opposition where ever the sixth tackle occurs. They have 13 players instead of 15, and it can just be a slightly more exciting game, if you ask me.

AholeAtheist I'm a rugby union man - league is for transients, drunkards and low-life's like soccer players. (joking). To be honest I've never played league rules.
