@@Thawcc_ no, I would've made the same choice too if I was in her position and I had the hope of a painless paradise to look forward to. But if I knew that there was no such thing, and the hospital is essentially my only hope, I would've absolutely chose to fight on until my last breath. I think the parents did the best they believe in, so I don't blame them, and calling it "child abuse" is a bit too far, but giving her false hope of eternal paradise with no pain to get her to agree to dying is not something that I can agree with, if it was my kid, but it's their kid, and it's their choice, so be it.

+Widow Honestly, Widow...I think it is BEAUTIFUL and POWERFUL that this five year old girl is comfortable/at peace with the prospect of death!! I'm sorry it doesn't seem like you are able to grasp the helplessness of everyone involved in this girls disease! It's not like if she "chose" to live through another cold and her medical team was able to revive her if necessary, that she would one day be able to receive a transplant or a cure would become available for her disease. She has a genetic defect ("disease") that she was born with that keeps her nerves from working properly. She can't walk, stand, move her arms well without assistance, eat, or even BREATHE unassisted! She will continue to get worse, be able to control LESS of her body, and SUFFER MORE until she DIES ANYWAYS!! Her decision will (sadly) cause less hardship and sorrow on her parents in the long run. They won't have to watch her deteriorate more and more until her body gives up anyways...

shayla the sheer bravery of the whole family is such a beautiful beautiful thing to have witnessed as sad as her story is, no one, especially a child deserves to die in a morbid cold white room when her inevitable death approached her, when she was able to spend her time at home where she belonged. This is beyond heart-breaking. Even though I'm an atheist, this is one of the rare situations where I would tell the little girl that there is a God and that He'll take care of her. Everything to make her final moments as comfortable as possible. Some things just floor you and leave you speechless. Parents giving their child the choice of whether they want to die at home or in a hospital is truly the stuff that shatters you into tiny little pieces on the inside.

Shantal Blaze I know that this child knows pain and suffering. She can’t eat or run or play with her brother. A cold can kill her for goodness sake. I’m a 44 year old woman with multiple chronic illnesses and I wouldn’t wish my pain on anyone, but this girl has had pain her whole tiny life. She probably has a better grasp of life and death than we do. Her mom laid it out pretty clearly for her. I sobbed for most of this story. I can’t imagine how hard it was to try and make the decisions that her parents have. The doctors and nurses are all supportive of her passing peacefully at home in her pink Princess room. I think that she deserves the dignity to choose to be comfortable at home. Either way it’s heartbreaking.

When it came time for this part of it my mother asked me at 5yrs old if I wanted to go through with it and if not that the cancer could spread to my brain if they didn't amputate my arm where the cancer was at. I said no way and here I am cancer free with my arm at 44yrs old. I have some arthritis in my hand and wrist but it didn't start bothering me till I was in my mid 20's. @@landanrockz570 well, not 100% true thought. If you read the stories of people who follow Jesus all their life, whether it's in the Bible or these modern days, you will know that following Jesus is not easy. There will be many obstacles and challenges throghout your life in Jesus, which i believe prepared by Jesus Himself. Now don't get this wrong. Jesus will never ever, harm any of His creation for fun. He did all of that to test us. Those who don't give up 'til the end, will be rewarded with things that are even far greater than you can imagine. He also made us as an example to other people out there, no matter what kind of trouble you had in life, never give up. God has plan for those who believe in Him. As for Satan, he is the one who try to wear all of us down. He will make us to think that Jesus is bad and tell us to abandon Him and follow Satan instead. Edit: I wrote this when I was 11 lmao. anyway, I'm 14 now and I still stand by what I said 3 years ago. I am sure i would agree with the ones disagreeing with me if it wasn't the daughter's decision. The daughter herself made the decision and I am sure the parents were devastated and tried to convince her but at the end it's the her choice on what she wants to do. She probably didn't want to suffer and for someone who has been in the hospital for the majority of their life, I'm pretty sure she knows suffering than most of us here. She saw death as a better and more peaceful option and made her choice. What has been done has been done rather than fighting about this we should wish the family the best and hope their daughter is safe and happier.

namas thapa what is wrong with you? Parents are supposed to protect their children and do everything they can to keep them alive and well. This is downright stupidity that they chose to allow a five year old to make that decision. A child is obviously going to choose the short term option. The treatment sucks but in the long term would have been better so obviously she is going to want to stop doing it. A 5 year old doesn’t understand the implications of what that would do. While children as they grow should be allowed to have more freedom allowing a five year old not to mention your own child to essentially kill themselves is child abuse. My apologies for the comments against religion I am atheist myself but respect other people’s right to their own beliefs. However I disagree that you should allow your child to make such a decision because of your faith. Also Ashley if you believed I was ignorant for a 13 year old then you haven’t met many 13 year olds. I was angry I admit and didn’t convey my opinion in the best way but that doesn’t change the fact that instead of disagreeing with me and backing up your claims you just said “oh your ignorant.”
