I wish I had an 8 hour day. Try 13 hours, 6 days a week is more like reality now.

Labor Day is celebrated on May 1st in several other countries, America and Canada have had their history subverted to deflect away from May 1st which is where the riots were in Ohio to protest against unemployment in the way people were handling it.
@gracehinkle36233 жыл бұрын
Not really to deflect. I'm an American and we all learn about what happened on May 1 and the Haymarket riots and such. The Pullman however was the big one that pushed the government to do labor day so that's the time they chose. You do realize it is ok to have national holidays that although are similar to other countries, don't line up exactly for personal historical reasoning, right?

I’m confused. How is May 1st the end of summer in the US?
@gracehinkle36233 жыл бұрын
.... it isn't. Where did you hear that? June 1 is the beginning of summer in the US

revisionist history. Skipping the Haymarket riot of 1886 and the haymarket martyrs as well is the international worker's day that followed.

Just because he didn't focus on the Haymarket strike doesn't mean he was trying to revise history. His main focus was on Labor Day and the Haymarket strike, according to the research I've done, had little or nothing to do with the making of Labor Day, but the Pullman Strike did. It had such a huge impact that the US government signed it into law six days later and the president at the time purposely made it on the first of September in order to avoid any association with the May 1st celebration driven in part by the Haymarket riot. That being said just because he doesn't mention the Haymarket Riot doesn't mean he was trying to revise history he may have felt it unnecessary to include it. Plus you shouldn't try and get all your info from one video, there's other videos here on KZfaq about Labor Day and some of them do mention the Haymarket Riot in addition to the Pullman Strike. Plus reading webpages online on Labor Day isn't a bad idea either.
