Great review as always. Sensible and down to earth. As people have noted these are difficult to come by, but B&M are pretty ubiquitous at the moment so most of you will likely have 2 or 3 stores within easy reach. B&M's stock control system seems pretty sophisticated, so my suggestion is to find a member of staff with one of those hand-scanners and ask them to tell you when they are getting stock of Item No. "337412" (the number off the bottom of the display box). They will not only tell you if they have stock in store (I found mine in a display bin, not on the shelves), but if they are actually going to stock it (the "Home" stores are the best, "Bargain" stores may not even be getting them), and when they are next expecting them into their local supply warehouse. .

Excellent video, PB! Very interesting to hear about the in's and out's of how these things get produced. Apparently there is another B&M TARDIS on the way, possibly the original 80s prototype that was developed, but clearly the set has been a roaring success.

Another TARDIS on the way? Oh well, I guess that's something else for the scalpers to go crazy over and annoy the fans with - though hopefully there won't be a repeat of that again. If it is the 1980's TARDIS, that would be excellent. Glad that you enjoyed the video, cheers for the info!

I wondered about the costume - it's the one from the 1972 story 'The Time Monster' - but in that, The Doctor does not wear a tie, cravat, any neckwear. On the plus side, the figure goes well with the Master, and his TARDIS from the 'Time Monster' set, and The Doctor can be given the scanner from that set to hold. I've 'tarted up' the weathering on my TARDIS with a light wash of Citadel 'Nuln Oil'.
@PBProps5 жыл бұрын
That's true about the costume, though I'm not too bothered about the accuracy of the toys in general because being a toy, they're not meant to be perfect - or rather, I'm old enough to have grown up with the original Star Wars toys and the Dapol stuff, so anything better than those are a bonus!

i'm actually getting the 5th doctor and tardis set that said it's from "The Visitation" because 1. I haven't had a 5th doctor in ages and i would have been lucky to have the time crash set as a kid when my aunt was selling a few on ebay years ago. 2. Same with the 5th doctor, haven't gotton a classic tardis for a long time since the first release with the 7th doctor. though it isn't electronic, it's still a fun little toy next to my spin and fly tardis

Thanks, I'm starting to feel a lot better, so that's a good thing. As for the video, I'm pleased that you continue to enjoy them too - it makes it all worthwhile to hear. As for the roof sagging issue, what I said is just what I think has happened, because it certainly looks to be the case, but I've not asked CO for an official comment on this as they've no doubt got things to be getting on with. For now though, the idea sounds plausible until I'm informed otherwise. :)

So I believe that CO planned to use the Regenerated Tom Baker figure as that has no cravat and is just the open shirt, like it is in The Time Monster but due to the differences with the Baker head (with a peghole) and the Pertwee (with the peg to go into the body) it was deemed to costly to construct a proper connection for the head. Also the jacket he wore in The Daemons was a different jacket to this one, a much deeper red and different cut and piping also. Very nice review as always.
@PBProps5 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah, I'm aware of the different jacket in The Daemons, but this one is as close to that as we'll ever get - which is why I made that particular comment... I don't see these toys as anything more than toys, just so long as they're in the ball park, then all is good as I never look at them that closely anyway. In the case of this figure, it's just obvious that there is a cravat there and I feel that they should have made something of it, rather than paint it white and pretend that it's not there. Thanks for the extra info regarding heads and pegs and I'm glad that you liked the review!
@doubleEspressoShartini5 жыл бұрын
@@PBProps Ah alrighty, just thought I would mention it as I have seen a few people mistake the jackets oddly enough. I do wish more was done as it would have been a new variant, even if the figure was from The Mutants it would have worked but this was just poor. No problem at all, I always enjoy watching your content, keep up the good work.
@PBProps5 жыл бұрын
I think CO will have miss steps from time to time, but I'm just happy that they've brought out what they have. If you'd said to me twenty years ago that we'd have what we have now, I wouldn't have believed it - I mean, we even have a Sontaron space ship and that's just a patterned ball! To a degree, we've been spoilt for choice here.
@doubleEspressoShartini5 жыл бұрын
@@PBProps I agree, like most companies they do have some major missteps but there are some figures that are among my favorites of my collection. I really hope that they go back to making figures like they used to be able to do but I am certainly thankful for the stuff they have given us.
@PBProps5 жыл бұрын
As loathed as I am to say this, but I think the bubble burst for Doctor Who a very long time ago and the range of merchandise reflects this, especially with the classic range from CO. I stopped collecting all the new series stuff way back with series three, from that point on, I picked up the odd piece here and there. I stuck with the classics as they at least meant something to me and looked visual interesting on the shelf when compared to the new items - the contrast is stark. One is colourful with striking designs that draw the eye, the other is all very samey and rather bland. It's a pity, but like I said - we had it good for a long time.

Watched the video straight when it came out & forgot to leave a comment ☺️. B&M have handled this years releases horribly, B&M is *Not* a suitable store to stock the Tardis set as it had such a high demand over these past few years. First off the Staff at B&M we’re utterly useless when calling up to check whether the sets were in or not, here’s my little story: I call up and say that I’m calling to check if they have the new sets in and this lady says; Sorry? (I ask again) Ummm Doctor Whoey? (Yes, Doctor Who Figures) NO, we no have any of that (Then rudely hangs up) Turns out that store DID have all the sets including about 20 Tardis sets. I ended up getting one on eBay (rather not say the price of it! 😂) I really do like this set, although I do prefer Hartnell’s box it feels like a proper collectors item (it’s the paint that gives it that nice feeling) So glad you did this video, really interesting hearing yours and everyone else’s views!
@PBProps5 жыл бұрын
Your story seems to echo what quite a few people have been saying, so it's no real wonder why the prices having been going through the roof on eBay. The distribution and handling of this set is simply dreadful - but at least you managed to get yourself one, even if the price was high. One thing that I didn't mention in the video is that the one area where they (CO) did scrimp on and that's the cardboard that the box packaging is made from - it's really cheap, flimsy and thin stock. Anyway, glad that you liked the video and thanks for watching and leaving a comment.

I think it's a pretty good TARDIS for the price point. I was lucky enough to find one in my local B&M. I wanted to get a couple of extras to try customize, for 20 quid you can't moan. Went back and not found any since. They are still so hard to come by. Not going to pay silly money on ebay. I just keep looking. With Christmas coming up i'm sure they must have more to restock. Great video. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this set.
@PBProps5 жыл бұрын
I agree, it's a real decent value for the money in your pocket, plus at that price point, you could buy them specifically to customise them without the worry of potentially ruining an expensive piece. I guess that by Christmas, there will be loads more in stock - fingers crossed.
@AshleyTMDW5 жыл бұрын
This was definitely a fascinating and interesting watch, and it actually reminded me of something I recall seeing ages ago when checking TARDIS builders. It was an alternative exterior that you apparently had a hand in making for New Who that the BBC didn't use. I was wondering if you could go into detail on how it nearly came to be, or if you happened to still have measurements for it? If not, that's absolutely fine!
@PBProps5 жыл бұрын
Well thanks for watching. The TARDIS you're talking about was never completed, but it just needs the weathering done and the glazing fitted, however, it lives 300 miles away from me and so I've never quite gotten around to finishing it off because it's so difficult getting to it. I've also thought many times about doing a video on the subject - even when I used to run the TARDIS board (that I co-founded by the way) and coincidentally this morning I was again pondering the issue, but I've lost most of the build images for it. I have some, though they're "recovered" images and they're so small that they're almost unusable for video resolution. I'll work something out - hopefully when I move to a place big enough for me to bring it home and then I can finally finish it off.
@TheSpectacularSpiderPunk5 жыл бұрын
Great review, thank you (the blooper was rather funny too)! I was able to find two of these sets from two separate B&M's - one I've repainted with Citadel Acrylic Paints (a custom mix of three different blues!), so that it's more accurate to _The Time Monster_ and the remainder of Season 10. The other I'm also intending to repaint and weather with acrylics as a 2nd Doctor box (will also be customising the roofs and telephone doors). My question to your good self is this - should I lacquer both of my repainted TARDISes like you suggested in this case? Many thanks :)
@PBProps5 жыл бұрын
If you are using acrylics, spritzing it with lacquer will just give you an extra level of protection to that type of paint because it is prone to chipping and wearing off if handled too much over time. I guess what I'm saying is that it couldn't hurt to add it.

I started dying when I saw they took away the electronics but still kept the speaker and battery compartment. That’s so weird, they could’ve made it look like a model if they had just taken them away. Also isn’t this just a repaint of the original 4th CO Tardis??
