You guys need to assign yourselves a job you will produce a lot a season. You need to think of the five days you get a season as your days off season. Also you need to assign someone to cook and work the well so there is food and water made/collected every season. You will need to prepare the needed tools but you can assign npcs to do that scut work. Finally the reason you cannot make steel is you have not built a smelter. You need the charcoal kiln for charcoal to burn to get steel. In a smelter that burns the charcoal to melt the iron to get steel. You guys just need to build one more piece of equipment which you can do you just have not done yet.

the 1st house you're able to build can only have 1 bed the 2nd house can have 2 beds
