We compare the cost of serving a 5 liter mini keg of beer, from a 16 g cartridge to a 50 pound tank.
What is right for you and what adapter do you need for your mini regulator?

Thanks for the video. Just got my 1st keg (used 20L) and getting supplies to have summer beer on tap. I am going the sodastream route, but I already have the 20lb CO2 tank with dip tube as I have refilled the sodastream bottles in the past. I paid about $1.20/lb of CO2 at the local place here in Waterloo, ON.

I used to use paintball tanks until one of the fillers told me that they added oil to the CO2. I didn't know what to believe so I went back to my 5lb tank.

, I loved it, I took 10kg tank... it cost 50.- € fill and 60.-€ (pledge/pawn you get it back if you stop drinking beer... uhuh), Finland... so much better than sodastream what I still have for outside parties.

If your going to a paintball shop for those refills won't you be getting the non-food Co2 refills instead of what you really want are the food base Co2 to do your drinks with.

Ok. Just got a mini keg and it’s fun but slllooooowww at pouring. Watching this video was awesome because I had to buy the little co2 cartridges. I’m curious if I can almost have the best of both worlds and but the big boy in the corner and use it to refill the paint ball cartridges so I have long term savings after some money spent up front but keep portability.

Thanks for the video. I’ve been brewing beer for a few years now and always carbonated my beer in the bottles. I just got my first keg system (2.6) gallons. I noticed you made a distinction between force carbonate and serving. Can I still use this canisters to force carbonate? I want to filter my beer and force carbonate it with co2 as opposed to sugar. Got a little bit confused by your statement about serving and not carbonating. Thanks.

That was an interesting vid for a new home brewer with a first 5L keg. I am thinking that after my box of bulbs is finished, I might change to a Soda Stream cannister, unless I can get very cheap bulbs? Regards, Jas. vk4fjgs Rockhampton Queensland Australia

Here in europe sodastream cost 5 to 6 euro to exchange to full. 2kg bottle cost 70€ and filling 16 10kg bottle cost 130 and filling only 22€ 😀. Difficult choice and i have 10kg for aquariums and carbonisation in parralel. Both systems can use 2 to 3bars, perfect.

Is there a way to split the high pressure CO2 easily? I want to connect my keg regulator and sodastream carbonator at the same time but can’t find much on high pressure splitters

what hose is needed to connect that mini regulator to the quick disconnect Ball Lock? I guess they are all the same?

Is there such a thing as "food grade" C02? I am a bit worried the paintball refills would introduce some oil in my beer... I have found a place I trust and refill 20lbs and 10 lbs cylinder, but I would be worried about random refill locations. Maybe it's all the same?

It's all the same, the welding and paintball refills are just pure CO2. I always use a welding supply shop. Very cheap.

I sorry if I get this wrong information, but I give it a try. I did quick Google and it says 12 to 24 hours depending on the beer. I believe it untrue. The best thing to do is actually talk to a brewery or and bar how long it last under normal used as in 1 to 4+ people drinking X number of beers a day. You doing right thing by asking here. Best thing to me is buy cheaper beer at you like to risk and do the test. Please don't just do one, try maybe 3 at the most. It give you a good number on how long it will last. It will change like weather, how much in their, how fast you are emptying it, time, where the earth is, and many other things.

c02 is about 2 g/L (at STP), if you carb to 2.5 volumes you'll be using 23X2X2.5 = 115g. You then need to push it out, assuming 11 psi at 3C you'll use another 3.4X23 = 78 g. So, roughly 200g per 23L or 56 23 L kegs. Your beer probably has some dissolved co2 from fermenting so you don't actually force carb from 0 to 2.5, but maybe like 1 to 2.5 so you might stretch it a bit further. You also might use some gas to purge empty kegs before filling which will use up gas. You also might have a leaky connection and lose your entire tank in a weekend. :/

Is there a difference between CO2 and Food Grade CO2? asking in regarding to filing soda stream canister. Thank you!

Yes. The Food Grade is properly filtered for drinks and is safer for consumption. Soda Stream will have the proper Co2, but you can go to AirGas and they will fill it with the Food Grade Co2 which is what you want. I filled a 20 LB tank and it cost me $41 dollars in Reno to fill.

your title card was over the cost of the big boi. Is my math correct? You said that the 25lbs canister could empty the keg 600 times so can you do 1200 times with the 50lbs? and at $0.008 per fill that would be $9.6 vs $60 for the 25LBS?

question!!.. for the paintball canisters, do you need an special regulator?... or is it pretty much the same one that we use with 16gr cartridges (up to 30psi gauge)????

Co2 in liquid form should produce same pressure, this is an advantage of this system.

Wow that's pretty good. Most shops around me want to swap the 5 or 10lb tanks. The 5lb is $16 which I think is a decent deal. 15 pounds sounds great though.
