That is absolutely terrifying because if that alarm is sounding you are probably in a burning room, so if the exit is blocked or let's say you are on fire you are definitely dead

Actually, it purposely leaves the room with about 10% oxygen so you could survive for maybe 10 minutes if you hold your breath while it’s being released and breathing slow after it disperses.

This system is not located in Dallas. I personally sold, and designed this system, and the installation was done by me and two of the best Special Hazard technicians the South. I uploaded this video over 9 years ago. I don't mined if you use the video, but at least give credit where credit it due. I glad you liked the video enough to want to use it, that's a compliment within itself.

You would absolutely suffocate, it's an asphyxiant gas. Usually an emergency breathing apparatus box is in areas with those kinds of suppression systems

Pretty awesome!! Don't know what's in this barrels but they look flammable. Its a shame it takes song to change up. Wonder if it starts up in time to prevent an explosion. Ive seen lots of chemical factory fires that probably had systems like this and didn't work fully.

So, a lethal gas is released pretty quickly for anyone injured or whatnot, and there's no visibility during and after discharge because of the properties of CO2 gas released quickly in high concentrations. Also, no voice alarms that a lethal gas will be discharged and rapid evacuation or SCBA must be used. There's no countdown, so occupants wouldn't know how quickly to leave. I sure hope that such systems would only ever be installed in unoccupied areas, or areas that are locked to everyone but personnel who are trained and carry SCBAs for emergencies. Halon or inert gas mixtures that allow for breathable oxygen are what I would prefer instead of a very effective for fires, but deadly and obscuring to humans, gas.
@jameshowell1214
@jameshowell1214 2 жыл бұрын
Actually CO2 is an innert gas, but it can be deadly in this situation because it displaces all of the oxygen in the room, which is also how it extinguishes fires, and I absolutely agree that in order to go in that room you should be required to have an scba that you can put on quickly, because if there is a fire while you are in there chances are you can't make it past the flames and out the room in 30s, also in case of a false trigger, that alarm is very loud and likely to cause disorentation especially if there is no fire, I think that they should have some kind of speaker that says something like "exit the room immediately, you have 30 seconds before this room is flooded with CO2 25, 24, 23 etc."
@terminator3000
@terminator3000 Жыл бұрын
@@jameshowell1214 actually no. Co2 is deadly. I don't tremember how much exactly but somewhere around 5-10% of it in the air will kill you, no matter the oxygen content.

There is also a requirement for SCBA (breathing apparatus) units to be present in the room in case somebody is trapped inside so that they can still breathe during and after the discharge.

I knew a story about 2 HT electricians found dead on the floor crawling to the exits, they we're working in a transformer room when there was a spurious discharge from the co2 cylinders, the cylinders were not isolated before they entered the room. Sad.

@AndrooUK
@AndrooUK 2 жыл бұрын
@@MrStemkilla Not really that long if you are injured or disabled, and there are no voice alarms to tell you to 'GTFO or you will die'. CO2 shouldn't be used in any area that is expected to be occupied by humans, because it is so lethal. Halon or other partial intert gas mixtures that still allow for oxygen should be used. Of course, this is different in an area where staff are specially trained and given personal emergency breathing equipment to carry with them in case of emergency. You'd need to have specially locked areas with clear signage before entry, and other security and safety measures to ensure that untrained persons don't enter such an area with a lethal fire suppression system.
