I think that for such heavy games, this teaching approach works best. Otherwise it would be difficult to memorize all the rules without seeing them in motion. I think you did a good job here 👍

When I teach the game, I never ever use the term semi-coop, in my opinion, Vital has invented a new board game genre and I call it; "competitive coop". If people think that they can go between cooperating and being selfish, they'll lose. From the beginning to the end, there has to be a real push from players to get infrastructure and plants down and the strategy for players then is finding points in there, somewhere and gaining an edge over their competitors. Semi coop sounds like 50 / 50 working and shirking, in reality it's 80-90 % cooperation with players trying to work the angles and margins. I love it.

Really nice that you played the competitve(semi coop) version with a variant from vital. Sad that it was shipped with kind of broken rules but it is at least fixable. Very good rules explanation. To me this looks way superior to the coop and I don´t get why most focus on that. Also think the strugle against the game is still to much. It seemed to throw the whole game almost. After you picket up the pieces of your strategies but at that point the flow seemed broken.

One question: When you play a game for the first time and you lose does that influence your judgment about the game? For what i have seen it does a little bit. I usually see more people not liking a game after they lose. Or maybe is the other way around, you lose the game because you get bored or you don’t really understand the way to play well... and then you get bored.

That's a really good question. My philosophy is to, if able, try and play a game twice. The first time is grasping the concepts, tactics, strategies. The second time you play you'll have a better understanding. I also don't care if I win or lose a game ever because I'm playing to be around friends and using my brain in a different way and in the end doing cool things. So for the most part winning or losing does not influence my feelings on a game. But that is a really good question that could be talked about in discussions. I tend to try and avoid players that only want to play to win. Yes, I would like to win my games but I also want to play the best I can at that moment and if I end up in last then I can try and play better in the future.

When Marc built the infrastructure on the hydro at 2:09 in Africa, he could have moved his scientist there first and then got a free bump in hydro.

Edward is the main reason you dislike cooperative games the alpha gamer problem?

This is the one game with a topic close to my heart which I probably won't play because it's just not something I think is to be taken lightly making a game of it. I also doesn't play wargames about ongoing conflicts, but it's just too depressing to look at the sad state of climate politics to play this game for me.
