Motivation is a myth.
I get invited to do motivation talks and yell motivational slogans at athletes and teams all the over the world.
In reality - motivation does not work like that.
You can't motivate anyone to do anything they don't already want to do.
Motivation is like a flame - it lives inside each of us - and it's waiting for the right time, opportunity - and coach - to come and help that flame burst out and fuel the fire of success.
Smart coaches know that by providing challenging, engaging, rewarding coaching experiences in training and competition environments they can inspire athletes to be all they can be.
Putting up posters with motivational sayings is a waste of time and money!
Motivation has to come from inside the athlete and it's the coach's job to create the environment for this motivation to be expressed through the sports experience.
