I operate a roof bolter where I work. A Fletcher. I have always heard about these walk through bolters. And people putting bolts in ribs. Nice to see one at work. Nice video

I’ve ran a walk-thru pinner quiet a bit since I’ve been bolting. They’re good when you have bad ribs, but I could never handle how much slower they are compared to a roof ranger. Seems like it takes forever to get out of a place. But, looks like you’re in some good height. First time I ran one, it was between 12-15 ft. high. Water pouring out of the top. They gave everyone there hip-waders and rain suits. Took anywhere from 45 min. to an hour to bolt a 20 ft cut. But the worse was when it was about 52 in. and sandstone top. Barely could raise the canopy. The mast had just enough room to stand up.

Good video, i run the same machine in Illinois. Just didn't understand why you had to bend your bolts to put them in the top, looked like you had plenty of height

I run offside bolt machine an when we have to bend the bolts to put them up is usually when we are at the face of the cut an all the gob just makes it are to fit our bolts up

Oh gawd. We torch. Weld. Grind. Whatever. You take a methane reading before bolting up a cut. No problem

When i started roof bolting you just bid on the job, no proir experience necessary. There were no bolter helpers, no canopy of any kind. You set yer own jacks and made up yer own bolts. If you was lucky, when you bolted a fall they might send someone to keep an eye out in case you got covered up or knocked out by a rock. Which i have, luckily i had a helper that time or i'd have layed there for a while. I ran a Fletcher bolter i don't remember the model. It's been more years than i want to admit. Roof bolting is dangerous especially when it's a 15-20ft fall. I never cared for those extended steels they bend to easy and can kill ya in a second. A friend of mine let go of a bolt wrench while tightening up a bolt, it pulled the top up a couple inches and the wrench came off the bolt and that was all it took. A couple seconds is all it takes.

@@mikekennedy7240 no doubt. My grandfathers were in on organizing the 1st union. It was tough. A lot of fights, clubs, and guns. The mine i used to work is now owned by the bastard that had the mine in Utah (i think) that killed a bunch of people. Our mine was the 1st he owned. I've talked to some guys who worked there when he shut it down and they said the safety protocols were second to production. One friend got his leg torn off at the knee by a conveyor belt sprocket. Supposedly his lawyer went to his house and offered something like $250-300k for him to not file a workers comp suit. The bastard is just pure scum.

@@danielstewart7163 ha brother glad l had union representation a few times. Without it who knows ? Just like our military personnel we need to be thankful for all them and our forefathers the laid the groundwork and sacraficed during those times It hard to believe it still goes on today. Around my area they say if you don't like it Sheetz is hiring. Be safe buddy.
