I just watched an interview in Stray Casts where the wise one Rick Clunn demonstrated why he is a master and Randy will always be a wannabe by comparison. Their perspectives are quite different on the topic of Co-anglers. Clunn minimized the negatives and focused on the positives. Clunn empathizes with the fisherman who would rather fish and learn rather than be just an observer.

Randy has become the Negative Nancy of Bass Fishing….. Simply put - every video he posts on KZfaq has a negative tone about just about everything. Be it Forward Facing Sonar, getting old and not being able to catch fish, blaming others why bass fishing has changed, land development, technology development etc. I use to follow Randy back in the day when on BASS and FLW. He has now become just so grumpy and negative it’s hard to watch his videos. He wonders why someone like Milliken has a huge following yet his videos have minimal views. Dah Einstein open your ears and eyes.

Being a co sucks nowadays. Who wants to pay big money to draw a stranger that's going to front-end you all day or cry when you make a cast he doesn't approve of. Not all are thay way but definitely the majority. Those guys don't get gas money

I wouldn't consider bfl to be professional bass fishing to start off with.

You only fished only 200 tournaments,how in the hell you fished with 2000 co anglers?

So my question is what the percentage of boaters in BFL's are "pros". From my experience I have had 50% of my boaters that I have had more experience in bass fishing and tournament fishing. It is always easy to blame a co for your lack of performing. Don't like co-anglers fish a circuit that doesn't have them, don't try to ban thousands of anglers who fish as a co for one reason or another.

I've fished as a co-angler in the old BFL and Everstart series tournaments. I have a boat and fish a ton and I would pre-fish these events out of my smaller boat on my own. I out-fished my pro in nearly every tournament and quickly realized the most "pros" aren't really that great or aren't as great as they think they are at fishing. I would enter as a co-angler often to learn or to just travel and fish distant waters/tournaments without then the need for trailering or having a bigger boat. I had a 16 foot with a 40 horse and several 18 -20 foot bass boats with motors up to 200 HP as well (currently run a 20ft Phoenix). I entered these to learn mostly not really because I didn't have an availability of a boat. What I am saying is that many of the "pros" I fished with were just that in a self-proclaiming fashion. I can tell you that 80% of them were rather egotistical jerks as well (I had one boater than said I should just find someone to give me a ride back to my hotel/with my equipment because he was too busy hanging with his friends and taking photos of himself and drinking beer around the weigh in sight after the tournament. What a jerk he was. I can also tell you that two of the boaters I had were terribly unsafe and we had a couple of very close calls out there at high speed. I did have a couple of boaters that were fantastic though, including Todd Lee's first boater event on Table Rock lake. What a fantastic guy he was. Anyway, if Randy doesn't like having non-boaters in tournaments then he can just choose to not enter those tournaments. Any rules that exist when you enter a tournament are just that -- the rules. It is just arrogance and selfishness and just playing being a big cry baby to complain about the rules of an event you sign up for. If you are going to sign up, then sign up. But don't complain like a big wining baby of the rules of the very event you fish. Randy reminds me of many of the boaters that I drew. Very selfish in a lot of ways. Seemingly sensible in some ways but really selfish in many others. He doesn't come across as arrogant as many of the boaters I had but he sure is a big whiner!

This is the raw truth...why would any pro who has worked so hard to get to where they are want any one else in the boat to distract them? Randy is 100% correct and has the courage to say it. A Marshall along is all that is needed. Co- anglers fish ur own tournament ...win big...and then u will agree with Randy, this isn't kindergarten cry time...this is big time pro bass fishing at its best...earn a spot in ur boat alone and go for it!

I love when the co angler wins the tournament. W better casting skills, and fishing dead water, pulling fish the the guy up front missed. Ive carried a boater, in a tournament, not the other way around.

The current bass fishing tournaments technique is target fishing, if you are a CO-Angler you do not have a very good chance of catching anything, if your pro is target fishing with FFS you are left out, watching today I thought about the co-angler would be SOL. Fishing with this techniques (target fishing with FFS one or two bass at a time) co-anglers will be over 75% without one scorable bass at weigh in. The positive is that the live stream at the scale will go much quicker with 90% of co-anglers blanking for the day.

Randy if you can’t Block out the distractions you are weak minded … and shouldn’t be fishing at that level. I’ve heard excuse after excuse from RB about why he doesn’t get the same accolades as KVD or other pros. If you don’t want Co-Anglers in your boat then qualify to fish in a circuit that doesn’t permit them or choose other formats that don’t allow them to fish in !

In the BFLs, isn't it written that if there is no co-angler draw for a boater, they can be paired with another boater, with equal time on the front deck? So doesn't that mean that eventually, you become the hated rear deck fisherman?

I totally agree with a line on the boat. They should make it if the co angler crosses said line then the pro in front has all rights to cut the co anglers line. When i fish with a buddy in my boat or his we give each other the respect of not casting in each others area. Now we may from time to time cross each other line just mess each other but thats a different story.

I can hardly watch videos of Blaukat anymore. Most of his videos are all opinion. He puts up a video with him going out on the water because he says EVERYONE wants to see him on the water and then gets complaints from his viewers because it just shows him driving his boat on the water. And he shows a couple dinks he caught, probably with his weenie worm.. Then he makes another video crying that his viewers complained. And he calls the viewers crybabies. I think he needs to look in the mirror.

Dang!! wish I could’ve gotten in on this one, I’ve fished both co angler and marshal I agree with on some and some of his comments is BS just my opinion but we want have to be worried any long Co Anglers is about to be the thing of the pass. One other thing people’s complaining about FFS but these Pros was Bo guarding the front of the boat way before FFS just my 2 cents

I starting saying this 40 years ago and will die with the same opinion; the only thing differentiating a Pro from a great real fisherman is the time and money! I would personally fish in any boat, in any water, for any species with any Pro for free, just to show the world that Bass are not difficult to catch and they certainly aren't what would qualify anyone as a great fisherman or a Pro fisherman. These so called Pros are Bass Catchers and will never be Pro fishermen outside of a Bass tournament!

I fish in a small club and we draw co anglers that we actually compete against. It sucks! I can’t believe I’m agreeing with R.B but it absolutely throws your pace off. I’m not making a living off the tournament so I just try to have fun and not take it so seriously.

I agree with Randy on this.Ray Scott allowed Media to ride along and fish but they were not competing. I have Marshaled but never was a Co Angler in a Bass Event or FLW Event. Just my opinion. I learned more as a Marshal than if I was fishing. Randy just has the Balls to say what other Anglers want.

I would never fish as a co-angler again because I have been screwed by people like him. If he doesn’t want to fish with co-anglers, then don’t fish in the tournament with co-anglers. When I finish with co-anglers I set the boat up so that they can fish and don’t run over the fish as I go down a bank, so that they have a chance to catch them. He is not good enough to fish the highest level of the sport where there are no co-angles so he wines about it, just like he is not good enough with forward Facing sonar, so he wants to get it band. He’s a big crybaby.

I have been on both sides of angler/ co angler and things always work better if you set ground rules in the morning.
