Roaming The Outback

Roaming The Outback

Күн бұрын

Due to soaring temperatures and high fire danger, its time to start returning to the coast, in search of a summer job. Having spent a few days in Jundah Outback Queensland, catching Red claw crays, I depart and drive East exploring the Ilfracombe outdoor museum.
The birthplace of the Australian Labor party, the Tree of Knowledge in Barcaldine is revealed, and I attempt to catch some more Red claw at Fairbairn Dam near Emerald. Arriving at Blackdown Tablelands National Park, I set up camp for the week to explore the frog life and enjoy the cool mountain temperatures.

Am enjoying your vids. Interesting stuff. You might need to get that frog book downloaded onto a tablet....you never know when a frog might pop up lol :-) I agree with your sentiments. Been pretty much two months since you released this video and a lot has happened in Oz with the devastating bushfires and now flooding in some parts. Keep up the good work.

Very wise words Brett. Why wait? We can't do much about human greed and/or stupidity, so why wait - see what we can, while we can. Just wanted to add that stupidity is easy to see, it starts with those that think they know better than climate experts.

You speak from my heart there, (around minute 8) I was awed by the bores and the water they provide for cattle and people. When I learned that the best melons are grown around Alice Springs , using bore water, it "blew my mind" in a horrified way. Same goes for plundering the water for growing cotton in desert country, as you say. I love your continent and I hope things will turn out well, it does not look too bright at present, though. Stay safe!

You might consider starting a sideline of offering guided expedition tours of the Bush & the Outback to small groups of paying tourists, exploring Oz's interior in vehicles. Make a lifestyle choice an earner for you at the same time, you've already apparently mastered most of the skills needed?

G'day Brett, Another great video mate & you touched on some interesting points for example the future of Employment V Robotic;s & Automation I recently retired (early) after working 23 years as a Robotics Engineer (Specialising mainly in Std & exotic materials welding) & with One (1) correctly setup & programmed Robot it would replace Eight (8) Second class welders, with its speed & efficiency. Also the high standard of repeatable weld quality goes without question, also Robots do not have holidays, days off, sick days or a bad day from partying to hard the night before. Anyway we are still fitting out our 4X4 Truck & hope to complete it sometime next year so we too can enjoy what you are already doing by seeing this magnificent country of our's before it changes much more, &/or the fun police & do gooder's ban entry to everything etc. We started 4X4 or Overlanding back in 1980 & the changes we have seen between then & now would both shock if not amaze you at what freedom we have already lost & the changes to the Bush/Climate, Mate some of the stories we could tell & experiences we have had over this amount of time, starting to sound like an old fart now. Safe Travels Mate, Sue & Steve. WA.

Incredible to hear mate. But automation is the way ahead I believe in most industries to produce quality and competitively priced products. An arms war, whoever doesn't automate to keep up with competitors will disappear. Good to hear, enjoy the last of the mods and the enjoyment of this country.

What! fires and droughts in Australia is due to climate change!? That’s BS -Fires and periodic drought have shaped the Australian biota since Gondwana. This Climate hysteria conveniently absolves green based land management agencies, associated academics and ecologists from culpability for the human, environmental and economic disasters that they have visited on Australia through their bad advise to governments on land and fire management, which has resulted in unprecedented fuel build up and consequently mega high intensity crown fires.

It dries out...it burns...it grows back better...the Australian continent is a perfect self cleansing environment...notice the rainfall figures that follow a heavy draught and bushfire season.
@RoamingTheOutback
@RoamingTheOutback 4 жыл бұрын
yes they've always happened. I'm just thinking of the intensity changing, and if it continues on a worsening trend, I see vast areas of land being abandoned, becoming economically unviable. Only time will tell.
@garrygraham7901
@garrygraham7901 4 жыл бұрын
Sorry Brett, the intensity is changing because of the persistent failure of fire management policies. Last year's fires were the result of several thousand acts of human ignition - less than 10% were by natural causes. As a park ranger, you were part of the problem and your ignorance of the need for regular fuel reduction as practiced by indigenous peoples for millenia only serves to confirm that watermelons will never learn. The National Sparks and Wildfire Service earns its dismal reputation. As for your lecture about the evil of cotton? That was a nice cotton shirt you were wearing there old mate!

Mate, I'm surprised Land Rover Australia don't get on board. It would be great exposure for them for the price of 1 unit... Their marketing costs to get the footage you consistently turn out would be huge. I couldn't think of a better way for them to get the new Defender out there, than on a well established channel such as yours.

Good stuff mate. Shame that the fire threat is so high this year putting yours and other travellers plans in jeopardy. I’m no scientist but it only takes a little common sense to realise that burning fossil fuel, destruction of woodlands and mass meat production is going to have an impact. To all the naysayers I say this, park your car in the garage, leave the engine running and seal the doors and tell me fossil fuels have no impact on the environment. Safe travels mate. ATB.

Mate your smoking the wrong weed. The world is not going to end, the climate will do what it always had done in australia. Just do what you want to do and the rest will sort itself out. When I travel I could not care less what is in the media, just enjoy what you are doing. Don't listen to anyone, how many times I have been told don't go there its crap, then I just did the opposite and went and it was a great experience. I am the opposite of you, I believe in people and I'm sure people in general will do the right thing.You will be kicking yourself for being so negative in 30 years looking back.SNAP out of it.
