Coastal Convergence is a documentary style short film that explores the changes in the Republican and Democratic parties in the United States surrounding the issue of environmental conservation, as well as the history of conservation on the Washington Olympic Coast, and new threats to our natural environment and wild places everywhere.
The film takes place mostly on the Washington State Olympic peninsula coast. A pro-conservation “Washington Republican” leads a politically mixed group of people on what is intended to be a protest hike. The protest is focused on the potential offshore exploration and drilling for fossil fuels along the Olympic coast proposed by the Trump administration. These people from opposition political parties come together and agree that they should protect the threatened pristine wilderness coastline and the Olympic National Marine Sanctuary from oil exploration.
The film looks at and asks many questions about how politics interacts with conservation of natural environments and resources.
In the end the group takes in the beautiful scenery of the rugged coastline while getting to know some people they may have never otherwise met. As the hike continues the whole group converges with a new purpose against a different environmental threat they experience first hand along their journey.

Thank you for posting this. I am a resident and owner of rural property in Thurston county, Washington and agree our shorelines and wild places must be protected in order to remain just as God created them.

Alaska has 60% of its land protected by the federal government. That's larger than the 15 smallest states combined. We both must preserve and conserve land. But at some point, enough is enough. There are 5 states where federally protected land is more than 50% of the land in the state. And yes, Oregon is one of them.

No, it isn't. At some point we have to say to development and population growth 'enough is enough.'
