A train simulator video of the Cogan, Penarth, Lavernock and Sully line to Cadoxton, as well as the line to Cadoxton via Dinas Powis.
A lot of artistic licence, but most of track work and scenery is based on the 1938 Ordnance Survey Map and photos from numerous books etc... If you have 20 mins or so to spare, things to look out for include the brickworks Dinas Powis, and the narrow gauge railway at Penarth cement works. This film is really a rough edit of a future project. I had trouble rendering the scenes at full 1080p so please enjoy it HD at 720p. Most trains are early British Rail so the dates between the scenery and rolling stock is all over the place. Sadly I couldn't get all the signalling to work properly either, and also some of the line speeds are a bit iffy, but hey it's just a bit of fun and I enjoyed making it!!
(Note: I hope to make the scenery available to download for Train Simulator at the Steam site soon?)

Very clever. I drive freight along what's left of that and interesting to see where lines used to go. I'll look out for the lost junctions next time I work out of Barry Docks.

I think where the 4 lines go into 2, on the approach to Cogan Tunnel, there was an upside small signal box.

All these videos are fantastic to watch,could you do one of the Neath & Brecon line at some time? I'm planning on walking the route and filming how it looks today, have walked around 8 to 10 miles of it so far,but will re do it in the summer and film it then

Your recreations are a wonder but as a boy I lived in a house that backed onto the RR near Crwys and of course spot every little thing that is wrong: 1 The coach sets were universally in maroon and never express sets 2 The auto-trains were mostly 55xx, on our line normally 5574. We occasionally had panniers but never 14xx 3 56xx and 66xx dominated goods and long distance passenger (in our case Caerphilly and Rhymney) though there were GW large praries on the Rhymney Lines and their BR equivalents on the old TV routes. Panniers only used on a few auto-trains 4
