Chozen is a changed man and a beast in Miyagi-Do Karate! These were the best episodes of the season so far and we can't wait to see how they set up the rest of season 3! Thank you all for the support!

In this episode we see the genesis of “no mercy”. Kreese tried to show mercy and it backfired. Like you, I thought that the ponytail guy was Silver, but here we see that Silver was a scared teenager. More on that later. I love Chozen’s evolution. I never expected to root for Chozen, but here I am a fan of Chozen. As for Johnny, I think he might have missed his calling. He truly should have been a physical therapist. He cured Miguel of his asthma and now he helps him walk again. However, Miguel’s journey won’t be easy and I think you’ll be pleased with how the writers handle the Miguel story. This season only gets better culminating with a phenomenal final episode to Season 3. Stay tuned!

4:18 They actually went to Okinawa to film the scenes there, which is made even better by the fact that Karate Kid II didn't. They used Oahu, Hawaii as Okinawa in the filming of Karate Kid II.

I think the key with Chozen making the turnaround that he did, really came down to a reformed Sato being the father figure he needed when he was in that dark place; I'm sure Sato blamed himself for the way Chozen was, as his hatred for Miyagi and lust for revenge all those years would have undoubtedly rubbed off on a young Chozen and helped to shape his angry and hateful persona. It's really about the importance of good role models/mentors, which is what Johnny was lacking all those years, helping to explain why he didn't see the same kind of positive turnaround between Karate Kid and Cobra Kai that Chozen did.

Two wrongs dont make a right. A cycle moves in a circle. An eye for an eye leaves everyone blind... you get the point. Everyone's war is justified. It's easy to fight the bad guy but it only starts the process over again.

@@mr.niceguy777 I somewhat agree, you don't beat the bully by becoming the bully however I don't agree that the fight itself will prolong the cycle. Every man must be willing to fight for at the very least their ideals but it's important not to be lost in the struggle, a man must be three a brave man to know when to stand, a strong man to know to strike and a wise man to know when to stop.

As a soldier who deals with PTSD, I can tell you that it doesn't depend on "winning the fight". The trauma happens and later, you deal with it. It just comes on, the anxiety, the depression, it all just affects you and the symptoms just do their thing. I consider myself a strong individual with all I've done and been through, but PTSD is no respecter of accomplishments, victories, or anything else. One day you are in war, the next day you are buying Lucky Charms cereal and for some reason that makes no sense, you can't breathe and need to leave the store. It can come with warning or no warning. Just wanted to share that and I can understand how Sam's character could face that.

Denial, like what a lot of guys fall prey to, is the fear-based response. You are not hiding behind denial, you're facing that wound, doing the work, getting it done. I saw an interview where he mentioned that flip. I love watching him and Jacob Bertrand (Hawk) fighting. They both do such a good job and unlike a lot of the other actors, you can tell its them doing the moves 'cause you see their faces most of the time. Tanner did say he doesn't like to take falls though, which I can't blame him lol doesn't take much to get the wind knocked outta ya from a even a small fall.

The writing in this show continues to be amazing. And the evolution of each character continues to be fantastic. As someone who has seen the entire series to the end of season 4, I can say you’re still in for a hell of a ride. Just when you think you’ve got these complicated characters figured out, they find ways to surprise you. Love the reactions. Keep up the great work.

Yuji Okumoto (Chozen) owns a Hawaiian restaurant where I used to live a few years ago. He was pretty gracious about taking pics with a couple fans. (I was too shy to ask lol)

lots of lines were used in the movies, kreese with his i like that, i like that, and also its open season on him and you. Also, chozen says to daniel with the scroll, keep for your collection, he said the same with kumiko in karate kid 2 when his shirt was ripped. so many more instances like the flinch punch move the captain does to kreece that he does to his student in karate kid one as well as kumiko in mentioniing the cranberries song in episode 4, is used in next karate kid used in the montage. So many references in every episode probably around 1/3 of every episode has a throwback, easter egg, so cleverly done you dont even notice unless you are a big fan of the originals or just really sharp lol. great show and love watching you guys react!

Something I really like about the episode with Chozen is the switch-up of demeanors. I don't just mean his personality, which he played up for the prank. At first, his face was serious and threatening and his voice had this sort of controlled ferocity to it, with eyes that looked like he was scrutinizing Daniel throughout their interactions. You can definitely see more of this when he's training with Daniel, where his grimaces and snarls look more akin to a grizzly bear about to tear the throat of its prey. And then, immediately after he gets him back, Chozen's face relaxes, his eyes look more composed and friendly, and even his voice becomes like that of a familiar relative you haven't seen in a long time. I just thought that showed off how much he's changed nicely-- now a noble, honorable man with a good sense of humor who's found a new way in life, but can and *will* fight like a wrathful warrior if need be.

One thing that always bothered me: Kreese refers to Kyler as an “untrained fighter.” He’s an experienced wrestler. Several UFC champions were high school wrestlers. Cobra Kai exists in a weird alternate universe where MMA never existed. (I know about the deleted BJJ scene.)

If you haven’t already seen The Next Karate Kid, you may want to do so before you go into Season 5 (due in September). Rumor has it that a central character from that film MAY show up during that season. It was the fourth film in the Miyagi canon.

I really enjoy having my morning coffee with your reactions and comments for Cobra kai so much. I am not able to stay awake for the midnight posts but even though I am not one of the first here your channel for reactions is one of my favorite's . There was so much going on in both these episodes and you both covered all the important topics and I was feeling it as you both went along. I see things the same way and it is great that you both are on par with situations and characters evolving . I love the actual scene's from Okinawa it is a beautiful place and I am glad that the series Cobra Kai revisited the lovely island.... that was a Miyagi treat . I appreciate TBR Schmitt& Samantha's channel very much you both unpack a lot with these episodes and bring so much to your channel . Thank you both and I keep looking forward to more .

Great set of episodes. Chozen becoming an honorable man is just awesome and learning more about Kreese's past was also very cool. The fake out on Silver was a nice touch too. I think everyone watching this thought the guy with the ponytail was Silver until he was killed. I mean the guy had the same kind of bravado and lets be honest, he kind of looked like him too so the fake out was just awesome. Some good news too. Season 5 comes out in September so you will be able to finish binging the series before the new drops.

Pressure points, the strike techniques to hit them are difficult to master and they don't work on everyone. But are a great option when they do. Easier is using them as control techniques rather than immobilization. Essentially pressure applied to certain points is very painful but doesn't actually do permanent harm, so you can apply pressure to a hand, or a point under the jaw, or other spots, and get compliance.

One of the great things about season 3 is that it starts from such a massively low point, every triumph the characters feel is almost heightened for the audience, and any new dark thing that happens you're kind of inoculated to now.

I think the Miyagi-do pressure point technique is still defense because it relies on someone throwing the first hit it just further exploits someone’s aggressive, and having them at their mercy

The thing that makes the writing on this show good is that while you often can see the story beats coming, they rarely play out in a cliched or obvious way. There's usually a twist that makes the scenes enjoyable rather than trite. Elisabeth Shue is fantastic and I am glad they brought her back into the show - she was so good in The Boys.

I teach muay thai, okinawan karate and boxing. There is a nerve bundle in the deltoid that causes the same numbness experienced from a "charlie-horse" strike to the leg/thigh. Not depicted properly, but the effect is real.

Ponytail threw me off the first time, but it turns out that Twig is Terry Silver. What I enjoyed most about Daniel's arc in episode 5 is that he and Chozen finally found some closure. And as much as an idiot Johnny can be, he's trying his best to help Miguel recover. As for Miguel, he's aware of his mistakes but I'm glad he didn't sugarcoat the situation. He is the only one in the wheelchair after the rumble at the school, and she does need therapy for her anger issues asap. On a somber note, I wish they had dedicated episode 5 to the actor who portrayed Mr. Sato. So I'll do it: Dedicated to Danny Kamekona: November 15th, 1935 to May 2nd, 1996

40:40 Ali and her husband are both doctors. When Johnny and Daniel had their initial conversation, Daniel said she's a pediatric surgeon. The team behind the show actually used that to their advantage earlier in the season with Miguel's surgeon. It was a popular theory that Ali would end up helping Miguel, and when you first see Miguel's doctor when he had surgery earlier in the season, it's from behind and looked similar to Ali.

7:39 "What on earth could you hit to just numb your entire... I want to learn this." Killing or deadening an arm IS possible although I learned a different technique to do so... the spot to target is still the same... the soft tissue along the bicep. I learned to curl your fingers so that the knuckles extend outward like the teeth of a saw blade. Then... aggressively strike the inner bicep in a top-down motion dragging as many knuckles into and along the bicep as you can. This strike WILL numb the arm. I know from FIRST hand experience during training this technique does work. It's called "Guenting".

Yay. So glad that you’re reacting to these two episodes. What I like the most is that us watchers don’t have to keep dealing with hearing Amanda calling Daniel crazy and paranoid about Kreese and Cobra Kai. She’s now had her eyes opened about him.

As much as I know it'll never happen, I want the teenager who came in third place, I think, from the tournament from the 1st Karate Kid movie to make an appearance in this show. He was the kid that Johnny beat up before he got to daniel (the asian kid in the white gi). He was too nice...oh well.

Hey, Schmitts! Awesome reaction, glad you had so much fun! Chozen's incapacitation technique immediately reminded me of *chi-blocking* by Ty Lee and the Equalists in the Avatar franchise, I mean, there had to be a real life basis for it. Likewise, Johnny and Miguel's montage in episode 6 is probably the funniest in the entire series. Also, looking forward to your reaction on ''Jackie Brown''!

Loved these episodes so good love Kreese has another dimension to him. Shows the effects of being a POW/or childhood bullying/bad parenting etc , can last and mould a person .

She came onto my property, threatened me and struck me across the face, which made me have a flashback to my traumatic past, pretty much. Cop: Wow, you come across as so scary and tough!!!! I never would've thought you'd have such trouble with a woman!!!! Kreese: You make it sound like I'm a violent man. I'll have you know the first thing I teach my martial arts students is to run away from fights, since karate is for defence only!!!!! Cop: I couldn't agree more!!!!! Pressure points very effective in martial arts... If you get a chance you should look at acupuncture map which is basically a map of the human body and it details each pressure point throughout the body and what it does some pressure points stop blood flow of the stop pain others can knock you out it's just knowing those points... And they're even pressure points that can accelerate healing....

Hey you guys are Great!! You guys need to watch "The Next Karate Kid", it is the last one that stars Mr. Miyagi and it stars Hilary Swank. Corba Kai, keeps bringing people from the pervious and the directors have said that much; that besides the ones that are dead in real life, everyone that has appeared in any of the 4 movies can come back and make an appearance, so we are waiting to see if in season 5 we might get to see Julie Pierce (Hilary Swank) and Mike Barnes (Sean Kanan); so heres hoping!!👍

7:37 There are so many pressure points and clusters of nerve cells in the human body where you can "dead" a limb with an accurate strike. Common ones are just below the shoulder muscle on the upper arm, and the bony section between the hams and quads in the upper leg. Another one I discovered recently in sparring, is striking the small part of the bicep in the inner arm just above the bend of the arm. Attacking pressure points could be an effective game plan 1 on 1, but I wouldn't make it my primary focus if I were to defend myself on the streets.

I know you guys decided against watching the 4th Karate kid movie but I wouldn't be at all surprised if characters from that movie could possibly surface in future seasons of cobra kai. I think you guys should watch it because although Daniel is not in it, Mr. Miyagi is and who in their right mind would not want to see Mr. Miyagi again one last time.

Hawk IS super baddass :) Big guy had it coming. After all he and Kyler did to Eli/Hawk, now it came all back. Hawk with the payback. Even in the Dojo they made fun of Hawk. Karma. Regarding Dimitri and the broken arm, you could see that Eli/Hawk realized it was too much. But after the other Cobrai Kais told him to go for it, he did it to prove his loyality to them/Cobra Kai. LET'S GO HAWK!

@Fredrick Frederickson The broken arm was too much for Dimitri, but I get it. Hawk is overcorrecting. Got hardcore bullied all his life and now he is the one who's owning people around him. He needs to find his balance. But right now, it's payback time. I totally get it. Hawk is the best!

1. Miguel being healed by the power of rock is still the single most cringeworthy OTT moment in the entire show. 2. Ohhh, I had forgotten Kyler bullied Hakw too, and they were forced to coexist here. This makes that one moment in S4 even more poignant and impactful. Masterful writing.
