CocoCay vs Half Moon Cay: Which Private Island Is Better?

Both Royal Caribbean and Carnival have their own private islands within The Bahamas - Perfect Day at CocoCay and Half Moon Cay - that can only be visited when sailing on one of their respective ships.
You won't, for instance, find a cruise onboard the revolutionary Icon of the Seas to Half Moon Cay. Similarly, Carnival Conquest won't be visiting CocoCay.
The islands aren't identical to one another, so you must research both before settling on a cruise line. Those seeking more thrilling excursions might prefer CocoCay, whereas those seeking a relaxing beach day with fewer extra cost activities may find Half Moon Cay suitable.

Still can't believe Carnival gets away with not allowing the drink package on the island. Nothing screams ripoff more than that

we love RCL but we don't always have the budget for RCL. We also like Carnival. There are some pro's and con's to both lines, just as in there are pro's and con's listed here. We have been Perfect day 3 times and loved it. We are going to Half-moon in November and certainly will be comparing them. The paying for umbrellas and drink package will certainly be a point against, however I have noticed cabanas are like more then half the cost, I may even get one!

RC spent $250 million on the renovation, not $25 million.

When will the new Carnival private island be ready for guests? While I've cruised on both cruiselines, it is more advantageous to be able to use your drink package on the island. This is were Royal Caribbean gets my vote.

Before the renovation, cococay was not all that good. So many jelly fish in the water and just not much to do. Haven’t been to the perfect day one yet.
