Coconut Salara

In this video I am sharing step by step instructions for making the most delicious salara. A rich coconut stuffed bread that is a childhood favorite of most West Indians. I make it dairy free but you can feel free to use regular butter or lard, and whole milk in you like.

I never thought of kneading the dough with Coconut milk, or adding spices to the Coconut filling, thanks for a straight forward recipe, delicious!!

I only recently started doing this. I used to use regular milk and butter but my children have dairy allergies and so I’ve been adjusting my baking to be dairy free and I’ve been getting better results so I’m sharing with you guys.

Can you use desiccated coconut rather than freshly grated?

Yes you can use desiccated coconut for this recipe if you don’t have the actual coconut and it’s easier to make.
