Barnfield Fishing thank you, I used to see the massive cod in the angling press from the Yorkshire coast when I was younger, they've all but disappeared in the South, hardly any decent cod get reported in Essex these days, sadly. I hope they remain to be caught up North. I will check out your content, all the best.

My pb cod is 1lb 0.9oz its the only cod I've caught and I caught it middle of summer at the sea terminal on the isle of man, its a popular spot but cod are few and far between, its more mackerel lesser spotted cat shark's pin whiting and you get the odd weird unexpected things like bass I've seen one in 10 years fishing their and a blonde Ray once, anyway you get a 32lb pb and he said it was the biggest of the season so far, well done also enjoyed the video 📹 👍

Great vid mate, hope you enjoyed the Shetland, flugga is an amazing fishing area, I,m local here and we make a rule of any fish over 20lb goes back for stock, pity yous had a poor day fishing the second day but overall looked like you’d had a great trip, one tip I could give you is the weight size, I use 2lb weights as there’s massive tides there so a good heavy weight works great, also make sure everyone uses same weight or there’ll be lots of tangling, I,lol be heading up there in my boat in April, can’t wait, respect man 👌👍🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣

Great vid and good to see fish go back. You did the right thing, kept the ones that were too knackered to go back. When you bring them up from deep water you can stop reeling when the fish are about 20 feet below the boat and they'll blow a load of air out, which allows them to go back easier. I've been looking for the boat you were on but can't find it, I'm thinking about a trip up there next year, if I can. Have you any details where to find him?. Cheers mate.
@shorefishingessex
@shorefishingessex 3 жыл бұрын
william thank you, My friend actually booked it all up so I don't have the details to hand but I'm sure John Keggie is on facebook, his boat is called Yell Rebel & he fishes out of Cullivoe, if you search around you should find his details somewhere, he usually spends the winter marlin fishing in the canaries but with this pandemic I'm not sure what he's up too at the moment, good luck!

Peter the skipper should advise you better than us but we were using 30-50lb class gear jigging with savage gear 460 gram cutbait herring in a variety of colours, the skipper also had 3 hook traces that he made up out of red tubing that accounted for some decent fish, we also caught on live & dead coalfish & fresh mackerel when we could get them, I'm sure everyone's opinion differs but take a range of tackle to cover all eventualities, cheers!

@@pjcollins1885 I've had some great days out with Dave in the past but unfortunately I've heard he's not in good health lately, which is a shame, I remember when he was learning the ropes way back in the 90's aboard Nikaria skippered by Chris Martin, I had my pb conger of 65Ib back then, we used to steam right across the channel to the French side & stay a couple of nights in Fecamp, good old days!!

So Paul you guys had some amazing catches well done mate . I envy you . A job not done well mates, cod fish brought up from such deep water need to have their air bladder released all you threw back probably died!
@shorefishingessex
@shorefishingessex 3 жыл бұрын
And how do you release the air bladder? Are you suggesting we should have pierced it? That would definitely kill the fish! if you believe that piercing the internal organs of a fish that has blown it's innards will survive when you throw it back, then you are seriously deluded! Fish in that state will definitely die & throwing them back with a hole in their swim bladder will not help in any way whatsoever! A lot of these fish were not caught in very deep water & their condition onboard dictated whether we released them or not, of course if they had blown their swim bladders & their eyes were bulging we would have kept them for the table. I'm not misguided enough to say that every one of those fish thrown back survived but we had a well respected & very experienced skipper guiding us through our actions, if he had said that a fish had a chance of survival on being returned we would have taken his advice & I would trust his professional judgement over an ill informed keyboard warrior with ideas firmly rooted in the past.
