About the Annual SAG Awards:
The only televised awards shows to exclusively honor performers, the Screen Actors Guild Awards ® presents 13 awards for acting in film and television in a fast-moving show which airs live on TNT and tbs. The awards, presented by SAG-AFTRA, focus on individual performances as well as on the work of the entire ensemble of a drama series and comedy series, and the cast of a motion picture. These honors are fundamental to the spirit of the Screen Actors Guild Awards ® because they recognize what all actors know - that acting is a collaborative art.
About TNT:
TNT is basic cable’s #1 network in primetime with young adults and is home to one of cable’s most popular slates of original series, including The Alienist, Animal Kingdom, Claws, I Am the Night, and Snowpiercer. TNT also presents popular shows such as Arrow, Supernatural, Bones and Castle; primetime specials, such as the Screen Actors Guild Awards® and the iHeartRadio Music Awards; and championship sports coverage, including the NBA and the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship.

I was floored (as a deaf person) when he said "ok, get this together" for a sign word that Marlee used! I couldn't find a better description than Jack's! Wow...Definitely, he's a masterclass interpreter! I met Marlee at least four times including at Broadway and in her first film (I was extra at that time), but I never had a chance to meet Jack in person, even though he has my name on his friend list via Twitter. I hope I do meet him before he leaves this planet.

@moviemaniac14
@moviemaniac14 2 жыл бұрын
I wish that was the case, but The Power of the Dog was the only major contender to receive a Film Editing nomination, and no film (except Birdman because it's a one take style film) has won Best Picture for over forty years without an Editing nomination. Not only does CODA not have that, but neither does Belfast or West Side Story, which gives The Power of the Dog a clear win (unless that stat is miraculously broken).
@mikewhite3670
@mikewhite3670 2 жыл бұрын
@@moviemaniac14 Preferential ballot might see CODA overtake Power of the Dog. Never underestimate a feel good film. How can you not love a movie about deaf people/culture? It was number two on my list behind Drive My Car. Power of the Dog was technically a great film but won't resonate with the Actors branch whom make up the majority of the AMPAS.
@moviemaniac14
@moviemaniac14 2 жыл бұрын
@@mikewhite3670 Oh I much prefer CODA over The Power of the Dog as that was my number 3 film of the year behind Dune and Belle whereas The Power of the Dog was number 39. I hope you're right, but I still see The Power of the Dog taking it all. If CODA was a serious threat for Best Picture, then it would've received either a nomination, for Supporting Actress, Lead Actress, or (most importantly) Editing.
@ozybeastias8893
@ozybeastias8893 2 жыл бұрын
CODA only has three nominations (no movie with less than five nominations has won Best Picture since I don’t know when), it is not nominated in director and, most importantly, it is not nominated in Editing, which is crucial for a Best Picture win. Power of the Dog is the frontrunner and I don’t see how it loses. The ONLY movie that has a chance to upset (albeit a very, very, very small chance) is King Richard.

Don’t keep her from sign language just because she is hard of hearing, it’s a great language, it does not hurt anyone from learning English, and she will be instantly accepted by a great group of people, don’t worry that it will “isolate” her from the rest of the world. And at this age you can still learn it faster than her. And it’s fun!

I met Marlee Matlin at the Hancock Tower in Chicago years ago, around 2005. I started learning sign language when I was about 9 and by the time I graduated high school I was basically totally fluent. Anyway, I recognized her immediately and she saw my reaction and I was so excited to go up to her and sign to her and tell her I love her and her film "Children of a Lesser God" and she was so pleased that I could sign it all so well, and she was very nice and friendly to me in return. She was also much prettier in person than you can tell from the camera. To this day all of my deaf friends are insanely jealous that I got to meet her, but they are very happy that I told them she was so sweet in person.

yes to all the positive comments just going to add one note: please producers, when someone is speaking in a visual language such as sign language, do NOT cutaway for reaction shots. For the community whose native language is for once being spoken, you interrupt the speaker. Every time you cutaway, the deaf viewer - for whom moments such as these are rare - misses part of the speech, a speech that is above all for them.
