It's good to see you not bully motorists through red lights. With my own eyes I've seen emergency services bully people through red lights or have a go at them when they don't go through the light and it's not good at all. I've seen news reports of people going through red lights and blocking yellow box junctions to let emergency services through then getting fined and points and the courts not overturning it.

What's the sense of having a siren, if you cannot go through red lights? Turning off the siren is ridiculous to me. There is always enough space for a car to pass. If not, the flowing traffic has to stop, even if it has green light, this is obvious.

@@RayScarr69 I think the drivers are wrong for going over the traffic line on a red. The RC turned off its sirens to take pressure off of the drivers, but the drivers gave way instead of waiting for the light to turn green and giving way.

Interesting that as the unit approaches cars stopped ahead for a red traffic signal the driver cuts the siren, gives a timid tap or two to the horn and patiently waits until the light changes to green. I too think that it's safer to wait in order to avoid forcing drivers ahead to risk a collision. In the U.S. we have a tendency to lean on the air horn and Federal Q siren until drivers ahead take a chance crossing the intersection.

You are the first person that has commented about the safety of the public. Just because we are an emergency service doesn't mean we have to put the public at risk. If I can not safely move the public through the red light then I will always wait for the green....
@illusionuk
@illusionuk 3 жыл бұрын
It is known as effective non-use. We cut the sirens if there is literally no where for us to go and wait until the traffic starts moving again. We are not allowed to bully motorists to go through red lights. If they do cross the line and a gap opens up then fair enough we can proceed, otherwise we wait for the green light.

I got fined for putting one wheel in a bus lane to let an ambulance pass me on blues. I appealed the ticket, and lost. Unfortunately n the UK the powers that control traffic violation penalty charges are sanctimonious, self-righteous arseholes with not one ounce of common sense, compassion or reason. They did send me a pamphlet though, informing me that under no circumstances are motorists allowed to contravene any traffic regulation unless instructed to do so by a police officer. So if it's a police car sitting behind you with its sirens blaring, that is instruction enough to break the law. If it is behind you and goes quiet, it is not instruction. Also it's worth noting, that, unlike many countries, in the UK it is not a legal requirement to give way to an emergency vehicle responding to an emergency. Ridiculous, but true.

@EnjoyFirefighting
@EnjoyFirefighting 3 жыл бұрын
@@Lensman3333 sure, that's why you're supposed to do so slowly, carefully, watching out for all hazards, warn others etc However, at least in central Europe, many intersections are designed to offer some space in between the stopping line / traffic light and the actual lanes of crossing traffic. Often several vehicles will fit there without getting into the path of crossing traffic = no hazard

I'm no response driver or an expert in any way, so please anyone feel free to correct me, but it seems to me that you shave of a big deal of time if you keep your tones on when you're behind drivers in a red light?
@OfficialSamuelC
@OfficialSamuelC 3 жыл бұрын
It isn’t advised to force traffic through the red lights if it seems more dangerous than another red light where the risk of collision is lower. I believe Police are the only emergency service who can come up to you and ask you to move through a red. Technically moving through a red for emergency services isn’t allowed (except police I believe and can end you up in a fine) but no emergency service is going to go and give a telling off for a driver moving across a red light for you if done as safely as possible.) As someone who’s been in many ambulances, they tend to turn off the sirens if approaching a red light with lots of traffic waiting and not a ‘reasonably’ safe way for the cars to cross over the red to get out of the way. So they’ll usually just chill with the blues on and most people will move, but isn’t advised to sit up their asses blowing the sirens at drivers and pressuring those who are worried about crossing a red into potentially incoming traffic.

@slackythe2nd

Because it would have been illegal. As an emergency response driver in the UK you are not allowed to force other road users to go through red lights or perform other illegal manoeuvres. You are taught to sit at a distance behind and wait for the green light.
@LoadingGames.
@LoadingGames. 3 жыл бұрын
@@slackythe2nd it is illegal but if its safe to do so would it not be the correct move to go through the red to let an emergency vehicle pass? I mean if it was an ambulance somebody could be not breathing, those few seconds could be life or death.

@slackythe2nd 3 жыл бұрын
@@LoadingGames. regardless of what the emergency vehicle is going to members of the public shouldn't break any traffic laws as this will leave them liable if they get caught. The best thing to do is wait until the light goes green and then pull out of the way as safely and quickly as possible.

2:17 both drivers have crossed line on red lights, this is an offence in itself, you sit at red lights regardless of emergency vehicle behind you, hence why they turn sirens off, only time you can go through red light for emergency vehicles is when directed by uniformed police officer, surely this should be taught as part of learning to drive
