I dont give a shit what anyone says... I LOVE this chicks voice. It's so raw and real. Its adds an emotion to the song that really suites it. And she fucking shreds on that banjo. Most of ya'll couldn't walk and chew gum at the same time. Let alone sing and play an instrument.

Anyone who has a problem with the vocals has never actually sat around a jam circle and appreciated real bluegrass. It's more about the jam, the instruments, and the moment. Not being an autotuned pop singer. The best bluegrass in the world sounds exactly like this.

Her raw voice is what makes this song so amazing. Unfortunately in her own song, her voice sounds more "produced" and in my opinion that ruins them.

She's also singing further away from the camera mic's than the other singers so her vocals are going to be a bit off since she's not trying to 'belt' it out. Great video and performance.

We were out doing chores and running errands for family one Saturday. Me and my two boys. We hit a few yard sales along the way. After we finished everything up, we decided to swing by G.G.s house. Their Great Grandma, my grandmother. We saw what I thought was a yard sale, but it turned out to just be a family in the front yard with a lot of stuff, chairs, and some BBQ rolling while they were playing bluegrass on a guitar, five string, and an upright bass. I stayed to hear the whole song and clapped at the end. They were great. They never acknowledged my presence in any way. It was very strange behavior for people playing bluegrass, but this was in California. People there just aren't right. There's a feel to it when you're there. This sounds great on a device, but to be there is a tactile thing that transcends sound alone. This is a fantastic performance. Wish I'd have been there.

Lyrics for this cover:: I ain't your darling, I ain't your baby now Them holy roller can't climb out of town Its dark where I've been staying, Don't you worry, Come on in I've finally found a friend, till the end Codeine, Codeine You're the nicest thing I've seen For awhile, For awhile You hold my hand when I stumbled into the room And, all of these faces will all be faded soon It's whisper time again Time to forget everything Its all I got left to hold onto Codeine, Codeine, You're the nicest thing I've seen, For awhile, For awhile You can take your dusty bottle off the shelf And, you can keep your words of wisdom to yourself I love you darling so.. Why can't you let me go Before you find me hanging in a cell Codeine, Codeine, You're the nicest thing I've seen, For awhile, For awhile For awhile, For awhile

Ed Copeland I think Patton meant that style of banjo is not bluegrass, which is a typical style of picking, she is playing a claw hammer style. Or failing banjo. Bluegrass banjo is played with the three finger picks. Or maybe he did mean it’s not bluegrass genre music and at that point I would agree with you Ed and say it is indeed bluegrass.

Lyrics: I ain't your darlin, I ain't your baby now Them holy rollers they can’t climb out of town It's dark where I've been stayin' Don't you worry, come on in I've finally found a friend It’s ‘til the end Codeine, Codeine You're the nicest thing I've seen For a while, for a while You hold my hand as I stumble to the room Well all these faces, they'll all be fading soon It's whisper time again Time to forget everything It's all that I've got left To hold onto Codeine, codeine You're the nicest thing I've seen For a while, for a while You can take your dusty bottles off the shelf and you can keep your words of wisdom to yourself I love you darlin so Why can't you let me go Before you find me hanging in my cell Codeine, codeine You're the nicest thing I've seen For a while, for a while For a while, for a while
